I'm debating whether it would be worth it getting mastery for my challenge run. I'm at 8 mining, 7 fishing, and 6 combat. I would want mastery for the mystic trees into mystic syrup into treasure totems into golden coconuts into banana saplings. They're the most valuable fruit trees (fruit tree only challenge run), but fishing doesn't provide much for me. Mining does help me acquire iron and copper, which I need more of for more kegs. Combat grows with mining, so that's a non-issue.

I know that farming is very strong, as farming still remains a good way to collect a bunch of mastery experience, but the sole reason for getting mastery was to get mystic trees to make treasure troves. I think it's still going to be awhile until I have to make the choice, though

But the iridium scythe can really make harvesting coffee less tedious

When I set out to do this challenge run, I hadn't considered how much clutter I would collect that I can't sell and have to figure out a decent way to dispose of. I have two chickens that I'm not feeding anymore, but I can't sell them because that counts as income from something other than fruit trees, nor can I afford an upgrade coop with an autofeeder (or even an autograbber)

This also means that if I ever get too many of an animal or no longer need it, I cannot sell an animal

In another save, I was on the wilderness farm (where enemies can spawn at night). These enemies despawn overnight, but by some miracle, I had 2 slimes breed that night, and their baby did not have the "despawn overnight" flag. So that lil fella stuck around. I popped on my slime charmer ring and lured it into a corner and fenced it in

(The easier way to get a slime that won't despawn is to just pop a slime egg into a slime egg incubator outside of the slime hutch.)
But this one was special to me because it just happened spontaneously

Food. Gold quality cheese is always good eatin' and I think I'll rely on pepper poppers for speed buffs.

I'm not allowing myself to do any of the gem trades with the desert trader. The alternative use for the GAC could be lava eels, but I think pepper poppers are going to be more reliable in the early game, and I can use the cheese anyway.
And besides, I'm not going to be able to earn any more money until Spring 8/9 at the earliest.

Getting xp is not hard without books.

When I end up having enough money to buy the books(and not have higher priorities to spend my money), the xp books are not useful anymore. Once mastery arrives, I do not feel it's hard either to get xp for it. If the amounts of xp required to get mastery levels was higher, I would not mind. Something like 8K 16K 32K 64K 128K (total 248K). Today it's 10K 15K 20K 25K 30K(total 100K).

Not missing birthdays is OP. Talking to npcs on a daily basis is not.
