This is literally a 'sit down and completely reevaluate everything moment'

I only want to make income off fruit trees. So, the only way that I know is to earn tickets, but I don't want to do jobs or special orders to earn money. So, I can earn tickets through festivals to get my first fruit tree and get the income started. But the pot is there and I hadn't considered it in planning my challenge run.

I feel other ponds come too late to have a real impact. Like cool, I can do a +4 fishing meal by combining squid+flounder+midnight carp, but at that point I only have 5 fish left to catch.

It seems the lava heel ponds also have better odds at 9 pop(removing 10x magma geodes from the pool - at some point they become underwhelming), which encourages to catch 1 for smoker.

Weave mossy seeds among them and carefully don't remove the moss from those. Moss-covered mutant trees, accelerate the Moss (re)growth on other trees within a few tiles of themselves. I do this with my Tapper groves!

I'm pretty sure this year, I will have more than enough to plant that many. Which means that I can sell my first fruit tree crop both in kegs and with the artisan bonus. That, I don't need to conserve my remaining 400g for eggplants and farming experience. So, I'm going to gamble with mystery boxes for the 0.6% chance of getting a fruit tree sapling.

It's a peach tree in the prize ticket machine, which means that I'll make 8k and be able to afford 4 apricot saplings, which provide the quickest ROI out of all of the fruit trees

Regarding Mushroom logs, they will generate higher quality mushrooms if there is moss around them. Mystic trees have a higher chance to create purple ones, but they cannot have moss. If you want high quality purple shrooms, you will need regular trees. I think oak trees give morels. Oak resin is one of the most important of the tapping products, while morel has decent selling values. Also if you have green rain trees near oak trees, they should produce more moss.

I wonder what is the optimal layout/setup, with these 4 elements (murshroom log, mystic tree, oak tree, mossy tree)

Maybe mossy trees are not necessary and could interfere with the nature of the mushroom generated by the logs.

Mossy trees are supposed to add moss on other trees. You must no remove moss from mossy trees. Wiki is not very clear about it, but I remember reading that somewhere.

golden coconuts can be obtained by trading 10 regular coconuts(Ginger island trader)

I feel this is an easier way. Cut desert trees, shake ginger island trees. Get coconuts?

Farming the volcano can also give you banana trees

To grow moss, the tree must meet a certain "age" requirement (every prespawned tree in the world seems to count as newborn when you initially start the game so you are very unlikely to see moss in the first Spring)
Trees "age" like they grow: with a random chance each day
Trees of sufficient "age" can spawn moss, also at a random chance each day. This chance is decreased on summer sunny days.
Green rain forces moss even if they do not meet the age requirement to grow it normally
A full-grown tree will have a higher chance to increment its age as well as to spawn moss each day, if there is a mutant (green rain style) tree that already moss on it, within a few tiles
Collecting moss will snap the tree's age down to a few stages below the moss requirement (to prevent a tree from regrowing it right away)

The age requirement is Growth Stage 15. IIRC, a fully grown tree is at Growth Stage 5. I do not know whether a fertilized tree will continue to increment Growth Stages at a 100% rate even after reaching full size, for the purpose of reaching the Moss age requirement sooner.

-eat fruits for energy early game (same could be said for mushrooms, I just like fruit more since every single type could be eaten)
-small storage space for late game. I usually put my coffee pots in here
-mushroom logs make fruit bats even more appealing since you already have another source to get mushrooms easier. Just because mushroom cave comes with a free dehydrator, still doesn’t make it worth it imo

kegs are 3x
so while dehydrators are faster, kegs are better when you have enough materials to keg all of your produce

dehydrators work great when you produce a lot of something and dont have enough kegs yet to process it all

but when you have stuff set up to farm oak resin and enough money to buy up a ton of other keg materials to produce a ton of kegs, kegs are better
