So far, carrots can’t be substituted for cave carrots (though that would make sense), and there’s only 1 new cooking recipe which does involve a 1.6 item but not the new crops. Fun fact - if you look in the 1.6 strings file in the game code, there are names/descriptions of 3 new dishes using the new crops. These aren’t actually used in the game, though.

Depends on my plans. Farming is usually first, but the second depends on what I know I'll be doing later.

If I have plans for being in the mines a lot, I grab the combat one to get the trinkets in play faster. Otherwise I'll go forage to start up the trees for tapping.

I'm used to doing stupid runs. I was thinking about doing jelly (earlier than wine, still workable in all seasons) but the smoker might be a better option.
