Well, I'm mostly self concious after the people in #modded-stardew started getting annoyed with me posting the level 5's / 10's using the MARGO mod, which changes up the skills (Example, level 5 mining lets you choose between +1 ores like usual, or double bombs when crafted)

Whenever you attempt to... reforge? recycle? reset?
Whenever you anvil a trinket that has a "Level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5" system, it has a very high chance to stay where it currently is, but it has a somewhat low chance to go up a level.

Wild guess. It's because when it grows fully, it keeps "growing" in the background.

And planting a better quality sapling causes the tree to mature faster, but it also ages up faster too as a byproduct

if you let a tree reach silver maturity (5 seasons total; 140 days) and then immediately chop it down and replant it, it will reach iridium quality 42 days sooner than if you had just let it grow regularly. that's almost two whole seasons!

But the bigger deal in the lategame is that pigs effectively take up 2.5x as much space as other animals since they actually need foraging space outdoors, whereas other animals can be crammed into densely packed rows of coops/barns

Fruit cave still better for CC, and in the lategame, mushroom cave doesn't provide anything unique. You can get mushrooms just fine all year round from mines, secret woods, GI cave and mushroom logs, depending on what you're looking for.

Fruit Cave on the other hand provides some very marginal unique benefits - like year-round access to salmonberries, and much easier access to spice berries (and subsequently, summer forage via seedmaker), which you could technically get by making other forage seeds and converting them at desert trader, but way more tedious.
