@eager arch take a mushroom stump, and in a 7x7 square around it and any wild (the new tree type) trees in the area counted up. each tree contributes to both quantity and quality of mushrooms. having 10 trees means always getting 5 muchrooms. since 10 x 0.5 = 5

like how a scarecrow protects crops, the stump gets better with trees.

Depends how big the farm is. Mushroom stumps get much more efficient the larger the farm is, because if you have a grid of trees, you can have a grid of mushroom stumps offset by 1 tile either in either direction, filling in the gaps to create either rows or columns of alternating stumps and trees
