Second time I played it, it was nearly the same. Except with flower mixed seeds and an orange sapling instead. I should mention it was also on a Multiplayer save so it may vary from player to player when in the same save file

I'm Fall 1, Y1, probably not unlocking ginger island until early winter.
Probably not taking mining . Also not fishing that much that fishing will be worth early.
Maybe combat just for the trinkets (can't make use of forge yet)? Or farming for the chance of crackers, also not heavily invested into animals without (lucky) access to auto-petter.

First, you need all skills on lvl10. Then you earn general experience. You get your first mastery with another 10k experience earned by any activity that earns you experience (like harvesting, fishing, etc). And then it totally depends what are your favourites, where you are in the game.

And then it depends how far is your progress. Each mastery contains of two recipes (or in case of farming, one recipe and one instant item) and a passive effect.
The passive effect, like ability to get certain items by activities will be useful at any part of the game but for the recipes it depends if you can already craft them or have access to items. E.g. combat lets you craft a forge that acts like the force at ginger island volcano. I'm not even having access to it as of fall 1, Y1. And not enough moss to craft the statue for the blessing (farming). Therefore in my case I'm not sure what to pick.
