You don't need a lot of luck that day. Just catch a few (5-8) squid beforehand, turn those into squid bait. Use a trap bobber too, and whatever food that boosts fishing you can get your hands on (not needed but it helps). Catch 8 squid the first day, turn those into bait for the second day 😄

I 'finished' the first day by noon, and the second day by around 2pm, both were 'displeased spirits' days when it came to luck.

No it doesn't, the rock is purely decorative. There is actually a good place to fish on the beach, but it's standing up in the shallows north of the rock, where the game actually lets you stand in fishable water, which let's you get the bobber 1 tile further away from "the shore"
