I've learnt new cursed things about mkvs

mkvs can reference other mkvs in the same folder. If you have chapter information in your mkv you can just say "yeah so this chapter's segment is actually in a completely different file please find it for me the id is [id] and then I guess mpv just has to look through the other mkvs in the same folder and find a segment with the same id

I was extremely confused because I had a show where if I copied the mkv to a different folder, the opening vanished from playback

and then if I also copied the other mkv that had the opening in it... The opening would play again

it seems to do this by segment ids not file names so that did not matter

Honestly, that doesn't sound cursed, just not intuitive. But it's a cool feature. You can freely play all chapters individually or have a "whole movie" file that is super small because it just references the other files.

it's used in this case because every episode has the same opening so you save some space

unfortunately I work with automated processes that copy over the files from another location so the opening files would not be there anymore

I'm mostly just fascinated by it even being a thing

mkvtoolnix doesn't mention it as an attachment or really give you any idea that's even being done. And the chapter timings look messed up

it just looks like there's 2 segments that play simultaneously but then if you select the opening you see it references a segment id in another mkv

mpv seemingly can figure out where to insert it into the chapter list because it's ordered and just shifts all the timings later in the list by the segment's duration

fascinating stuff. I don't really need a solution, I've dealt with the only case I've ever come across of something doing this

This app has taken 8 months to develop, many revisions, and manually installing 250 browsers and documenting them. I don't think I would do it over again, or suggest it to anyone. I've learned a lot from building on XP+, and older Linux versions. This would have been released to OpenBSD/GhostBSD and other BSD based distros, but it was funky for me to setup the env, maybe another day.

The goal also is to not specifically state that 250+ browsers are supported for legal reasons, as someone may get mad that Linux doesn't have 250+ support, but Windows does, and to also not frame it as data forensics (when it is), because I am missing some hash validation and an app license, that's all that stands between it and data forensic capable/verified

It's gonna be a big weight off my shoulders to finally release it lol

By doing window.game.getData("offlinetime")._rate._mBase = 1000 you can permanently fast-forward.
