I know my local domino's uses windows for the same reason

devout vault

(Let me tell you, making memes on mobile is a harrowing experience)

safe dragon
#

lmao

#

I like how this implies I replaced the entirety of Microsoft Access with a document generator

#

our application is now a big pdf

#

I hate that that is technically possible

#

it'd be extremely cursed

ivory shadow
#

I hate PDFs in all their forms. They are all cursed.

cinder karma
#

I too hate pdf forms

red crest
#

I don't mind pdfs except for the fact that it's apparently impossible to find something on linux that can handle a PDF with javascript functions inside it

fleet wren
#

reminds me of my old post about wacky pdf adventures

#

who knows maybe ||Firefox|| might work

red crest
#

I could open it in ||Firefox||, but the javascript wouldn't work

pliant snow
#

What cursed pdf needs JavaScript

red crest
#

D&D character sheet that will auto-fill certain forms depending on things I select in other forms.

#

Plus some other stuff.

fleet wren
#

there are so many "interactive" addons on top of PDF whose implementation are all taken from various pages of the necronomicon

rain apex
#

If u are gluing js on these things maybe a website is the right call ...

fleet wren
#

XFA is the most cursed one because if your viewer doesn't support it it literally cannot even view the non-interactive version

red crest
#

chu you're not allowed to give me that react unless you wanna suggest software to solve my issue. them's the rules

#

I didn't make the PDF! Don't blame me!

rain apex
#

Oh no i meant the person who made it when i said you

red crest
#

A website would absolutely be the right call but I haven't yet gotten to the point where I'm sufficiently motivated enough to make my own. Also it sounds like a pain in the ass because the PDF can support basically all third party addons as well via community made scripts.

#

But my laptop I use to take notes during D&D runs Mint so it's annoying that I cannot update the pdf during the session

fleet wren
#

hmm "Qoppa PDF Viewer" is apparently suggested as one that might work

red crest
#

So you'd think

#

However it did not

rain apex
red crest
#

It can recognize that the functions are there, but I could not use them

devout vault
#

Ah, the “look but don’t touch” approach

rain apex
#

But iirc that pdf is not scripted in any way? I had to maff it n stuff myself I think

#

It was just convenient for sharing

fleet wren
#

Adobe Reader in Wine it is

devout vault
#

Clearly, it’s time for the Button PDF viewer/editor

#

How hard could it be?

red crest
#

I tried installing Adobe Acrobat Reader with Wine and failed but I'm more certain that was user error in trying to figure out how to install things with Wine or whatever

fleet wren
devout vault
#

Surely not more than 3

red crest
#

By that point the session was already over so I gave up for the day

fleet wren
#

that image fills me with rage even to this day

devout vault
#

…has adobe ever supported Linux?

fleet wren
#

can I sue the government under accessibility laws if their forms don't support Linux

red crest
#

(I am still a linux baby I have no idea how to use Wine or how to install things with Wine or run them with Wine. I don't use linux as a daily driver OS sorry for being a fraud)

rain apex
#

You just wine <whatever u want to run>

devout vault
#

it is the year of the Linux desktop, after all. As was last year. And the year before that. And the…

hushed raven
red crest
#

(That said I did just go straight to trying Bottles? And didn't look at JUST wine because I thought Bottles would make it more "click and go" rather than "find out which exact series of commands to run")

rain apex
#

How can i acquire a copy of the necronomicon js pdf

red crest
rain apex
#

If u can find a portable app version of the thing then install is optional

red crest
#

Is there a portable app version of Adobe Acrobat

rain apex
#

But usually there's like a default wine workspace

devout vault
rain apex
#

If u ran installer by wine cli

#

You can then go find where it put the stuff

devout vault
#

Maybe it was lutris for installer and proton for the actually installed

red crest
#

I didn't

#

Bottles had a GUI I ran the installer through

#

And I could see where it tried to install things to in its mock C: drive

#

But because the installer failed every time there was no resulting application to run

devout vault
#

Silly idea.

Did you see if it was the type of installer you can open with 7zip to pull the app out manually?

hushed raven
#

Thats a think?

#

oh wow that useful to know

devout vault
#

It’s been quite a while but I’ve done it before on windows

red crest
#

I don't think I can use this

devout vault
#

Check a few folders

fleet wren
#

To install, you need to:
Install Adobe Acrobat on a windows installation and copy it to Linux
Filepath: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC

devout vault
#

But yeah, good chance it isn’t gonna be available

#

I’ve seen less and less work that way as time goes on

devout vault
#

I’ve never found a way to turn it off on iOS.

#

And it’s not exactly a documented feature, so it’d be hard to know if alternative keyboards would actually not do that

(I looked once in the past)

No Android keyboard I ever tried had that. Neither AOSP nor GBoard nor SwiftKey.

Didn't need to fuss

devout vault

Again, it’s not something they really tell you about

The visuals don’t change size

I'm certain mine doesn't do that, because it shows me all my typos and fixes things after I press space. If it had that feature I wouldn't make all these typos. I think.

Most of the recent experience I have with iOS has been for SDV.

I couldn’t get the console output of the game (simulator not fast enough - at least for my pre-apple-silicon Mac).

I couldn’t get the dotnet debugger to run.

In my experience, asking a question like this in here will get a couple passing answers, and then quickly derail into an entirely different discussion.

If you want a real answer, you need to nerdsnipe everyone into it

#

(exhibit A: me asking about linux distros when I got my framework)

#

(exhibit B: me asking about firefox forks. twice (one was in the mc thing))

cinder karma
#

I personally like stainless steel forks

heavy daggerBOT
rain apex

the me ten years ago would probably have rocked a firefox fork, but the benefits nowadays (the telemetries/social features that can all be disabled or ignored) are marginal compared to the downsides (slower patches)

rain apex
#

i also wonder if i should just use chromium blobcatgooglyblep

little furnace
#

Honestly, there aren't that many Firefox forks that are really different. Most try to foolishly replicate an older UI before Mozilla in their eternal wisdom pushed for another redesign.

#

What do you mean I can't make my tabs bounce around the window like a dvd logo

little furnace
little furnace
devout vault
#

I feel like updating the old style to fit into upstream changes is much harder than not ripping out the new stuff

#

Like, these browsers usually aren't complete forks, right?

#

They're just side-branches that have their own stuff and pull stuff from upstream too

#

I get it'd be complex, but the reason presented is usually not complexity of maintenance (from what I recall last I looked)

little furnace
#

Most Firefox forks actually use a forked render engine and the upstream changes don't really affected the render engine, so maybe that's the reason.

#

Continuing the topic, Pale Moon seems to be good for customization.

#

And then there's Zen, which is actually the only fork that tries to be something new that isn't "Firefox before Mozilla bad".

#

And Tor, but I didn't count Tor.

cinder karma
#

What about Brave?

devout vault
#

That's not FF-based I thought?

#

I could've sworn it was chromium

cinder karma

#

Braves chromium

#

for the most part, pretty much all of the browser forks are chromium unless explicitly stated otherwise

lethal walrus
#

ive always found it interesting brave is chromium

#

since the ceo was the mozilla cofounder

little furnace
#

The thing is that Chromium is made to be forked by design. It's highly modular and it's easy to adjust it to make your own browser. Firefox is much more monolithic.

#

Also, Firefox uses a license that requires developers to publish all modifications, so closed-source proprietary forks are impossible.

At the grand unveiling of the Twix, the two brothers accidentally broke the Twix bar; that being the final straw, the two brothers split the company into two factories: one for left Twix and one for right Twix.

They decided on 7

devout vault
#

And it gradually grew

devout vault
#

At this point, why can't they source generate ones that are long enough as necessary? /s

#

(I get why)

cinder karma
#

I believe if you search here you can find me saying that about every time I use a tuple I eventually make a record struct lol

#

I literally just did that at work the other week

hushed raven
#

~~ I have been under the impression it was thruple and only allowed 3 members this entire time ~~

cinder karma
#

If you want you could use the static method

#

That gets you 8

dusty pollen
#

in fairness to NaN propagation, if you multiply a non number by a number you do indeed get a non number

cinder karma
#

but 8 member tuple are too long

#

I dont blame them for cutting you off

#

Iro, I literally had a three member i turned into a NamedTuple

dusty pollen
#

I'm with you there

#

that's why I'm laughing

#

hell I even make 2 member record structs

cinder karma
#

I do so many named tuple in python

devout vault
hushed raven
#

Anything above 3 = struct, albeit entirely due to my own misunderstanding, wrong equation, right answer XD

devout vault
#

Then I gradually add one or two as needed

devout vault
#

It might have even started out with two to be honest

What does your dating life look like

#

A tuple?

hushed raven
devout vault
#

Already, let's see if anything crashes and burns from the NaN banishment.

Or the change I was in the middle of that led to this

cinder karma
devout vault
#

well that was quick

devout vault
#

"Why is the now-struct suddenly empty all the time????"
The constructor of the struct in question:

public PositionResult(Vector3 pos, Vector3 quadNormal, Vector3 quadTL, Vector3 quadTR, Vector3 quadBL, Vector3 quadBR, float heightBounding, bool shouldHide = false)
        {
        }

Ah yes, the walls have disappeared, and there is now a collection of giant black voids* clustered around one part of the world

* unfortunately, not the meowing kind

#

anyways this is getting more on topic than just "why is C# like this" so I'll stop

cinder karma
#

Tbh I actually like

#

Knew about the variadics thing/limited length of valuetuples thing

#

And was always like "I'm never gonna see that irl"

#

I wonder if c# will get variadics for generics some day

devout vault

important knowledge stolen from a post on reddit that I must share

(the comments say the documentary is called Into Great Silence)

hushed raven
#

How many words does it take for a documentary to not be considered a documentary anymore?

#

But the more important observation, thats absolutely adorable and the perfect use for the limits words they use

cinder karma
#

Do you have pictures of duke?

#

My YouTube shorts feed is now entirely that chemistry game lol

hushed raven
#

the Algorithm™ knows you too well

cinder karma
#

Are you getting thr game?

I'm very tempted, part of me wants to wait until tomorrow when the spring sale starts, but another part of me thinks it may not be on sale for anything cheaper than 50%

devout vault
#

I refuse to, because I know I'll get too sucked into it.

I've just been going of SteamDB predictions, hopefully it is the spring sale tomorrow, it's a bit later than usual I think?

weak obsidian

Itd not even spring yet

#

2 days away

cinder karma
#

It's not spring?

#

It's green outside and I hear the spring music

#

Time for planting!

We have snow still SDVpufferwaaah

cinder karma
#

ahhahah

dusty pollen
#

the extra quicksilver/lead is annoying me otherwise this would have been such a pretty solution 😭

#

this doesn't really show it but they build up in the hex arm on the right

safe dragon
#

damn it's not a true perfect loop

dusty pollen
#

nor can it go on forever SDVpufferpensive

cinder karma
#

Cheater!

(I did buy the game but wont get around to playing it likely for ages )

I'm installing Arch, I can't play it until I'm done setting up the DE and Steam...

Dad's visiting this weekend

#

Then I'm not sure when my next weekend is

#

Damn someone could probably write a thesis on electrical usage patterns

#

And daylight savings

#

Usage is up but the sun isn't out out yet :(

#

4.5%

#

Was perfect temp last night so light or little hvac I suspect

fleet wren
#

wait I just saw your answer below lol

#

hmm maybe one extra arm at the top? it would be swinging air in the gif though

dusty pollen
fleet wren
#

the arm helps deposit the extra lead once they reach the top

#

as mentioned it'd be swinging air until that point

dusty pollen
#

deposit where?

#

if it’s to replace the current lead you would end up having an extra quicksilver

cinder karma
#

You can sneak the quicksilver over to thr quicksilver exit
