I know my local domino's uses windows for the same reason
(Let me tell you, making memes on mobile is a harrowing experience)
lmao
I like how this implies I replaced the entirety of Microsoft Access with a document generator
our application is now a big pdf
I hate that that is technically possible
it'd be extremely cursed
I hate PDFs in all their forms. They are all cursed.
I too hate pdf forms
I don't mind pdfs except for the fact that it's apparently impossible to find something on linux that can handle a PDF with javascript functions inside it
reminds me of my old post about wacky pdf adventures
who knows maybe ||Firefox|| might work
I could open it in ||Firefox||, but the javascript wouldn't work
What cursed pdf needs JavaScript
D&D character sheet that will auto-fill certain forms depending on things I select in other forms.
Plus some other stuff.
there are so many "interactive" addons on top of PDF whose implementation are all taken from various pages of the necronomicon
If u are gluing js on these things maybe a website is the right call ...
XFA is the most cursed one because if your viewer doesn't support it it literally cannot even view the non-interactive version
chu you're not allowed to give me that react unless you wanna suggest software to solve my issue. them's the rules
I didn't make the PDF! Don't blame me!
Oh no i meant the person who made it when i said you
A website would absolutely be the right call but I haven't yet gotten to the point where I'm sufficiently motivated enough to make my own. Also it sounds like a pain in the ass because the PDF can support basically all third party addons as well via community made scripts.
But my laptop I use to take notes during D&D runs Mint so it's annoying that I cannot update the pdf during the session
hmm "Qoppa PDF Viewer" is apparently suggested as one that might work
When my friends did a dnd one shot we used www.myth-weavers.com
It can recognize that the functions are there, but I could not use them
Ah, the “look but don’t touch” approach
But iirc that pdf is not scripted in any way? I had to maff it n stuff myself I think
It was just convenient for sharing
Adobe Reader in Wine it is
I tried installing Adobe Acrobat Reader with Wine and failed but I'm more certain that was user error in trying to figure out how to install things with Wine or whatever
well still better than "you can't even look, fuck you"
Surely not more than 3
By that point the session was already over so I gave up for the day
that image fills me with rage even to this day
…has adobe ever supported Linux?
can I sue the government under accessibility laws if their forms don't support Linux
(I am still a linux baby I have no idea how to use Wine or how to install things with Wine or run them with Wine. I don't use linux as a daily driver OS sorry for being a fraud)
You just wine <whatever u want to run>
Soon™
it is the year of the Linux desktop, after all. As was last year. And the year before that. And the…
(neither do I, I just add things to steam and run it through proton) There is also Lutris and Bottles which I think were made to make running things through wine easier? Haven't used either though
(That said I did just go straight to trying Bottles? And didn't look at JUST wine because I thought Bottles would make it more "click and go" rather than "find out which exact series of commands to run")
How can i acquire a copy of the necronomicon js pdf
I'd have to do that on the installer first though, right? Like the adobe acrobat installer. That's what I tried to do via Bottles but the install wizard failed every time
If u can find a portable app version of the thing then install is optional
Is there a portable app version of Adobe Acrobat
But usually there's like a default wine workspace
I think I ran an installer through Proton once on my steam deck? Or Lutris or something
Maybe it was lutris for installer and proton for the actually installed
I didn't
Bottles had a GUI I ran the installer through
And I could see where it tried to install things to in its mock C: drive
But because the installer failed every time there was no resulting application to run
Silly idea.
Did you see if it was the type of installer you can open with 7zip to pull the app out manually?
It’s been quite a while but I’ve done it before on windows
I don't think I can use this
Check a few folders
To install, you need to:
Install Adobe Acrobat on a windows installation and copy it to Linux
Filepath: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC
But yeah, good chance it isn’t gonna be available
I’ve seen less and less work that way as time goes on
"In order to use this on Linux, you must first do it on Windows and then move the results to Linux"
god I love linux. truly the peoples OS
Got it, grabbing a glass of wine
I find it funny that Linux is a registered trademark but Mac is not.
wine atravita —with-rust “as a treat”
no clue how to tell iOS to NOT make that an em dash
wait what, adobe acrobat dc for linux is a snap package???
It’s gotten cold here again (by here standards)
Kinda
54, feels like 42
On Wednesday it’s gonna get down to 34
I tried this too and ran into errors in the CLI but I didn't try very hard (see: end of session comment) and that might've been user error too
The tendency for user error goes up when you are also trying to. yknow. pay attention to the session instead of doing anything with linux
Linux ttrpg when
You can install alternative onscreen keyboard apps even on iOS. Maybe like that?
I mean it already feels like I'm rolling a dice getting things to work sometimes
Smh I don’t want a solution that actually takes effort
I installed it just now, no errors and it seems to be legitly working lmao
It only takes effort the first time. It's like automating something for six hours when doing it manually would take 10 seconds.
Relearn my muscle memory? No thanks
though I swear they’ve made the “buttons changing hitbox size based on predictive text” thing even worse than it used to be
whoever's mad enough to do the hard work and package it into a snap package have my gratitude
This sounds like the most cursed feature.
I will give it another shot later then and spend more than 10 minutes skimming things this time
Still fucked up to me that Adobe Acrobat is the only thing I can use though
It’s a pretty standard feature of phone keyboards, and has been for a long time.
And I hate it
I’ve never found a way to turn it off on iOS.
And it’s not exactly a documented feature, so it’d be hard to know if alternative keyboards would actually not do that
(I looked once in the past)
No Android keyboard I ever tried had that. Neither AOSP nor GBoard nor SwiftKey.
Honeslty a bold choice using MPMB, I couldn't even get them to work on Windows
more patience than I
Even contemplated making my own just to be sure.
Unfortunately the “must resign app after a week” thing makes me want to make custom apps much less
I’m fairly certain some default Android ones have it too.
It’s been a while since I looked into it though
Again, it’s not something they really tell you about
The visuals don’t change size
Just where the taps register
I'm certain mine doesn't do that, because it shows me all my typos and fixes things after I press space. If it had that feature I wouldn't make all these typos. I think.
I could've sworn it was a thing on gboard but I cannot find it in the settings anymore
Re:pdf stuff - all I’m saying is that pen and paper doesn’t have this issue (nor my issue) 😛
So does mine.
The thing is that it doesn’t change them blatantly - it expands/shrinks the edges. So you’ll tap something, and just go “oh, I must’ve missed that key”
Since it’ll do the adjacent one instead
Like
I'm looking to get into iOS development (that's where the money is), so I'll consider making a custom keyboard for you.
I had to backspace and type “pdf” three times here
I have a Mac I could do it on, and have poked at it with the dev tools.
But I don’t wanna resign my app constantly, nor pay apple just so I can make personal little test apps
I think I'll run some tests now. I'm curious.
My mother pays Apple so I can develop apps with her. And we are looking into automated resigns.
I like not having to write many paragraphs about what my character can do!
Most of the recent experience I have with iOS has been for SDV.
And man, that is a nightmare workflow. Not because of SDV, because of the tooling
If you want an app to be made, pitch it, we are trying to gather experience.
Does your dm remind you what buttonpc can do
I couldn’t get the console output of the game (simulator not fast enough - at least for my pre-apple-silicon Mac).
I couldn’t get the dotnet debugger to run.
I could barely to get it to deploy! With manual console tricks every time!
I got a c++ debugger going, and to debug a dotnet exception I had to dig into the c++ exception and hope the info I needed was there
From the terminal using gdb
My mother loves developing on Mac for a reason I don't understand. I hate it.
I would say that is not the DMs job
It's more about remembering specific numbers and when things recharge and whatnot rather than general "I can do this thing"
I think it’s just c#/ios/aot woes in this case.
I’ve had much less issues with normal apps
Desktop ones
you haven't completed the blood sacrifice needed to get C# running on a mac
I mean, I hate even touching the Mac, so I don't really have any experience other than "hate".
is ios aot C# worse than android aot
The pre apple silicon ones technically work with just red food coloring, but man, it is NOT happy
Or is it specifically cus u have to use mac
I don’t think you strictly need aot for c# on android like you do iOS?
But it’s probably just Mac stuff
It wasn’t that hard imo
can you make an app that will fix me
no more details will be provided
yes or no
Go ask myuu that lol
Give me an app to rule my life
It will show you random pictures of cute cats whenever you need it. Does that help?
Same as above.
I almost pinged you and said “hey atra look a volunteer for your everything app”
Combine ynab with Google tasks with Google calendar. Integrate my email
Dont be a security nightmare
But aren’t you android not iOS
.cat
I'd love to develop for Android but iOS has priority because people are more willing to pay money there.
Maybe cus it's harder to side load things
thank you
Don’t worry, Google is working on fixing that
I mean, I had planned on making all apps FOSS and only make them paid in official stores.
The main apps i use on my phone is browser, social media things like discord, banking stuff, and the foss version of youtube
I'd be grand with a phone that can make and send texts, and browse the internet, that's like all I want or need in a phone, I rarely use it
Weren't old Sony Ericsson phones like that?
I still want to make a custom phone…
I am not old enough to have ever used one so I can't say XD
Oh i thought of one thing i use that isn't frontend for some kinda platform it's my calculator app lol
LibrePhone is a project to research freely licensed firmware for mobile phones.
good lord what a horrible website
I want to also make a custom phone entirely because I get get rid of all the stuff I do not need at all to extend battry life
and add back remavable battries
But also, considering the FSF’s weird stance on licenses and stuff, I wouldn’t be surprised if certain things were worse solely because they think stuff that works fine isn’t open enough or whatever
I think EU is doing the removal battery thing
(Unless I’m getting them confused with some other GPL…. Fans)
Oh I hope so, no longer being able to carry a spare battery is the worst decision phone manufacturers have ever had
What is ur wishlist
I don’t have one defined yet
But it needs All Of The Things with none of the drawbacks (/s)
The big issue will be Qualcomm patents.
I am pretty ok with my current phone but I do wish new phones didn't focus on camera so much
I don't need all that
Look I’m not talking make my own circuits
(Missed a very important word there)
I’m talking buy a bunch of components and throw them together with OS changes to do what I need (if any)
You'd need a SOC that has open drivers. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to properly run an OS on top of it.
tbf I reckon Valve may be able to help in that regard given their usage of snapdrag 8 gen 3 and custom SteamOS in the Frame
The Snapdragon 8 Elite was open-sourced, but that one is pretty expensive.
I don’t need my fantasies that I’ll never actually get around to, to be brought down by things like practicality /s
I mean, I'm totally interested in that project. But it's going to be hard.
I'm still disappointed that Google cancelled Project Ara.
Anyways I gotta do long drive-y things now. Guess I gotta stop yabbering 😔
project ara was my hope for something genuinely customisable
I never heard about this
Basically Framework but for phones. But the project was killed like 10 years ago.
Ah. RIPperoni
some people have continued it as hobbists but to my knowledge nothing big came out of it
A base that you snap modules into
Just get a cheaper phone
Companies are too busy obsessing over thinking people only care about phones being thin and light to ever make this, sadly
I recommend the note series if you're going with xiaomi
Yeah I did do that
just perferably one with a qualcom chipset and not mediatek
I also dont care that much about spicy ravioli tbh
It might not be repairable for a layperson but it'll be repairable for me
Shiftphone is experimenting with modular phones.
Something i worry about these modular phone is if i drop it is it gonna fall into a dozen pieces
Just get a spare that charges the phone through the charge port
Or do what j do and carry a charger with me
Just don't do that.
you'd defo want a qualcom version then, the mediatek ones are such a pain to repair, cosmetic repairs are fine but the actual functional parts are such a pain to get a hold of due to proprietary soddery of the highest degree
About the only time we challenge my phone battery is when I do a long long run or go hiking
Both are times where if my phone dies it dies lol
People dont get to contact me while I'm running sorry
Goose has too much faith in my little hands
On a related note, I have thought about printing off some of these business cards to give to people. It's tempting.
I have never dropped my phone. I don't get how people drop their phones so often /lh
some of us are just incredibly clumsy
Hypothermia
only one of the drops of my current phone has caused damage, and it was only cosmetic, funcionally unbothered to all the drops
If you are that often hypothermic I think you should worry less about the phone and more about other things
Anyways
Cal would say get off your phone lol
Remember how much we loved our iPhones when they first came out? Can we get back to that relationship with these devices? In this episode, Cal explores five pieces of advice for transforming your current phone back to something that’s less distracting, more useful, and fun once again – a goal he calls “2007 mode.”

is it just me or is it an intentionally unflattering comparison? graphics have looked more like the "on" pic than the "off" pic for a while now...
to be honest there's something unsettling about the "on" pic
I haven't played any realistic video games
the on pic is very much unsettling in an almost uncanny valley way, I think we're at the point of graphical improvments where things just seem too close to realism
Exactly! expecially the water
Beautiful water/10
Smth smth Minecraft old school Runescape
imo this is why stylised indie games are doing better and better these days. style > realistic graphics
There's an HD texture pack available (these graphics dont seem native to when the game launched?)
As well as the fact they run so much better on older hardware aswell, it's a win win solution
DLSS 5 plz
I'm currently playing obra dinn and they literally have different display modes named after various old terminal emulator colour schemes and it looks so good
This is the original, you can tell by the GameCube controller layout.
I still need to play that at some point, All I've heard is fantastic reviews
it's fun!
I mean, it was usually with an older tv that couldn't display it like this
crt?
I played it on crt
As well as every other gamecube game
Yeah, true. Though LCD was starting to gain traction back then. I think. Maybe I got my timelines mixed up.
Crt with aninal crossing wss amazing tho
Tho..
Without crt
Game looked bad
It had a lot of lazy map issues, cut out areas
Tho I thjnk some mods fix it
Ehh I mean it wss still possible
I think we had a huge 100-200 pound 60 inch CRT back in the day
Ours was half that size. I remember how amazing Twilight Princess looked.
Oo
I played smash bros a lot
And animal crossing
Only Zelda I played was on DS/3DS
You need to play more.
Pay me 500 dolla and I will
Im busy with stardew, then phasmophiba, then animal crossing city folk, then fields of mistria
Im on a tight gaming schedule
you may have just been smaller, I think the largest CRT ever was like 40"
The Sony Trinitron PVM-4300, also known as the KX-45ED1, is a cathode-ray tube (CRT) monitor released by Sony in 1989. It is the largest CRT monitor ever manufactured, with a 43-inch (110 cm) diagonal display and a weight of around 200 kilograms (440 lb). Development of the display was finished in September 1987; it was put on sale in Japan in A...

i'm out here losing my mind because windows has decided the win+1~0 hotkey should do nothing except flash a random taskbar icon and not restore chrome when i notice the brand new shining 💎 Unlock Premium button hastily glued to the Teams title bar
one of these days i may explode
When were cathode ray tubes a thing?
I remember them in 2010 but I'm not sure if we had one for an unreasonable amount of time
I'm wondering what my parents had for a TV now.....
I think my parents still have their old CRT
(I became a not TV person at some point so.)
At some point using a computer to watch stuff became better
A laptop is always what I use to watch stuff now, portable and big enough I don't have to strain my eyes
How does watching TV work
I think RPTVs can be larger.
Rptv?
When they use some kind of projector inside.
Trying to remember the TV mom and dad had when I was growing up tbh
Don't recall it much
I think it had four corners.
Model PV455P
Manufactured September 1983
Demoed March 2017
Shortly after posting this I sold it on CraigsList to GothamSetDec. The freight driver said it would be featured in the next season of Gotham (season 3 I think?). However, it wouldn't be a TV! I was never able to figure out what prop they turned it into.
That's how big projection TVs could get.
I have no reference of scale, can we get a calico cat next to it?
I get enough realism in reality.
~~can’t believe I missed a WW conversation 😔 ~~
Also, re:the WW gif.
It could just be from a capture card or emulator, hence not having a CRT look
Honestly it kinda looked to me like those monitor/tv promotional things where the image has so much more vibrancy and clarity… from refresh rate.
In a screenshot of the monitor/tv in question
Also, re:realistic vs stylized.
Theres also something to be said about letting the brain fill in gaps. Like the whole spooky factor lost from Mario 64 eel popping out of the hole underwater, vs the reimagining in Mario odyssey or whatever it was
(Though that’s probably also partially nostalgia / age difference)
There’s also the classic
Utterly Mind-Boggling
warcraft 3 and other RTSs from that era also handled things quite well
as they wanted minimum polygons to let them spam unit counts so leaned in heavy on ensuring everything had identifiable silloutes

massive shoulders more of a warhammer thing that blizzard loved being legally distinct to
Ooo! Tho Wikipedia is partially not right

We had bigger
And it was some Japanese brand

What ide's do you guys use for c#
How so?
Normal unions or discriminated?
discriminated
the new keyword is just union so I'll call em that
they made them weirdly complicated
and boxed by default
maybe the new .net stuff to automatically unbox when possible make that a non-issue idk
once it's a little closer to release I'll give em a whirl
I don’t really know what a discriminated union vs not is.
Besides I assume not having some of the same shenanigans you can do with unions in c++
idk I don't know c++
It's union typescript not union rust tbh
yeah it seems more like a type union than a proper rust enum
You can do a union in c# (in the c++ way) but that's a footgun
since you can implement the IUnion interface manually you have control to do things in a faster way but idk
idk why they went this route
can't wait for someone to make a source compiled version of these unions
I genuinely don't understand why they went this route
You can lay out a struct so two fields share the same memory location
But it's a footgun
Yeahhhhhh I’ve seen that in some spooky interop code
this is sort of endemic to IDEs though given the vast range of tasks, compatibilities, requirements, ..
granted VS is worse than most in that regard given it's fairly old and is expected to support most popular languages and workflows
you might get more out of rider given it's designed for c# specifically
very first DLC puzzle, nothing too mind blowing (optimized for cycles)
my optimizing tends to stop before putting multiple claws on a looping track
that is quite satisfying
(I also looked up the mod repo out of curiosity, and yeah this campaign was indeed a fan mod made canon
)
(the writing got tuned up a bit too)
That game has writing m

you should watch this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_Ekun0WDIk
Here's a slightly self-aggrandizing story about how I became really good at a video game.
tl;dw: guy doesn't quite like doing any of the official leaderboard categories, he makes nice looking machines instead. accidentally discovers a fan "sum" category, and it turns out optimizing for it tends to make aesthetically pleasing solutions
I used intelliJ before for Java so im more used to the whol Jetbrains ui
yeah aggressive optimization for one of the 3 official metrics tend to pigeonhole your solutions into patterns like arms on rails; rating by summing multiple metrics is nicer by comparison (and usually what most tournaments use)
Did u make me watch advertising lol
oh that's so much prettier than my solution
feel free to share regardless if you want
I feel like that's the most interesting aspect of optimizing for cycles.
I don't like when it starts becoming finicky with having to set instructions for more than 1 cycle
Yeah, I relate to that. But it's great when it works.
Don't know if I've shared this before.
I know I said I'd rate them all 10, but this one is a clear 11
Yay.
The upper arms push the water towards each other, where it gets connected, one arm releases it, the other drags it down over the calcifier (makes everything passing over it to salt) and releases it when it reaches the exit. Actually pretty simple. It just looks complicated because of the multiple arms. I'll get a GIF.
Is this stuttery for anyone else (especially near the looping point, I think?), or is my laptop dying a slow death
it's smooth for me
defo a very slow death
It happened to me as well, but only during the first loop.
Guess my framework is turning into a framewontwork
Poor framekitten 😔
FF had 5 GB used despite only having a few tabs open, and having restarted the PC 30 minutes.

Fresh restart of FF? Only slightly lower
I would say that seems about right but FF is only using 700mb with 889 tabs open for me
Don't worry about it. Mozilla is working on improving the browser by *checks notes* doing another UI redesign. Yay.
Close discord and restart -> half as much
Open discord and log back in here -> back to where it was
You can disable the AI now!
They can go make Rust smh
They could work on Thunderbird.

why are designers insistant of rounding corners so drastically? please I beg for no more pill shapes, I have to take enough of them already

oh thats interesting firefox relay is working on phone number aliases
Proton has shit for filtration
Google is still the god of email filters unfortunately
gmails filtering is surprisingly good
barring a good spam filter I don't really care
I prefer to receive as few emails as possible
Tried clearing cache and restart too
I guess electron in browser is just as bad as desktop app
or however that works
What is Electron in browser? That seems redundant.
I dunno, but opening discord makes my RAM usage go up by over 2.5 GB
I thought electron was just the wrapper for a basic browser in the form of a desktop programs
it's discord, what did you expect?
thay are the company that thought the solution to a memory leak was to forcekill the program XD
electron is just chromium with a bunch of desktop native APIs yeah
not too different from CEF like steam uses
However, it still uses React in the browser.
interesting, i thought Bethesda was that company
i suppose they can both be worst place
I also did that for an advent of code :P
Apparently Discord is worse in browser because it doesn't have good garbage control there.
Which doesn't excuse its bad design, it's just worse there.
browser memory usage is an enigma to me. It always seems to use so much more memory than the site's actual heap allocations
There are a lot of other measures before killing and it is temporary but it's still an utterly stupid idea imo https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/1pej7l7/restart_on_excessive_memory_usage_experiment/
What are bethesda doing? I haven't heard about that?
isn't it because it spawns a sub process for each tab?
and therefore has some overhead ontop of the actual site itself?
it's not just that
duke would like you all to know that bedtime is a form of baby beagle abuse
part of it seems to be overhead from memory it needs for the layout and rendering steps

they also all seem to reserve a lot more memory than is actively needed. Like if you have a peak memory usage spike of 200 mb then it will just keep reserving that amount after the spike
I read that as bugle at first and I was very confused what a small brass horn had to do with it XD
his protest was foiled by a fluffy blanket and some cuddles... for now
foiled yet again
Ahh ye that makes sense, certainly a tad odd not to release memory but I have no idea how hard it is to do
idk browsers are arcane technology akin to operating systems
Thye basically are operating sysgems
Just like emacs
One even made its own programming language
rust...
I mean one browser made its own operating system (except not really)
tbh considering the absolute mess that is css and html and just sheer amount of things you can do with them I'm surprised browsers don't take more ram and cpu to render a page
Guyssss
kaios or which one do u mean
I cant find the kitties who live behind work :(

chromeos
oh
it’s just android rebadged
??????
KaiOS is effectively that except Firefox instead
and Mozilla abandoned it ages ago so it's open-source now
oh, source-available not open-source
aren’t mozilla projects always open source
the original was open source but I guess the new owners didn't like that
Time to ask for a day off and go on a quest to find them
does mpl not need source?
I finished the first part of TIS-100 and am confused.
That game has a stpry?
a tiny bit. very ignorable
entirely through text snippets unlocked every level (though that’s all zachtronics games)
and in all of them everyone just ignores them
you know what would be a great shortcut in file explorer? new json file. I just make so many of them
why are you making a bunch of json files by hand
I don't, it's what I'm most curious about.
damn...
I have a shortcut for new file, and if I add the .json extension it becomes a JSON file.
revolutionary
I don't make json files manually very often
fairly frequently through code tho
this is true
you can add it
At least on windows
Registry for old context menu, but the newer menu ( 🤢 ) needs to be a UWP app or something I think
I usually just do create -> new text file, and then change the file extension
It's empty anyways
Firefox OS is Apache 2 apparently
or at least that's what the archived source on github says
zen!
interesting
In my experience, asking a question like this in here will get a couple passing answers, and then quickly derail into an entirely different discussion.
If you want a real answer, you need to nerdsnipe everyone into it
(exhibit A: me asking about linux distros when I got my framework)
(exhibit B: me asking about firefox forks. twice (one was in the mc thing))
I personally like stainless steel forks
New quote added by kittycatcasey as #7717 (https://discordapp.com/channels/137344473976799233/1215712021207720006/1483622206012526673)
tbh i need like 1-2 answers tops so this peanut gallery is best place to ask
the me ten years ago would probably have rocked a firefox fork, but the benefits nowadays (the telemetries/social features that can all be disabled or ignored) are marginal compared to the downsides (slower patches)
i also wonder if i should just use chromium
Honestly, there aren't that many Firefox forks that are really different. Most try to foolishly replicate an older UI before Mozilla in their eternal wisdom pushed for another redesign.
Basilisk:
ouh i been attacked by 2007
I mean I do wish we had old style extensions back. But usually the forks completely remove support for the new style too, for some reason
What do you mean I can't make my tabs bounce around the window like a dvd logo
2017, I think.
I think it's because maintaining both is hard.
I feel like updating the old style to fit into upstream changes is much harder than not ripping out the new stuff
Like, these browsers usually aren't complete forks, right?
They're just side-branches that have their own stuff and pull stuff from upstream too
I get it'd be complex, but the reason presented is usually not complexity of maintenance (from what I recall last I looked)
Most Firefox forks actually use a forked render engine and the upstream changes don't really affected the render engine, so maybe that's the reason.
Continuing the topic, Pale Moon seems to be good for customization.
And then there's Zen, which is actually the only fork that tries to be something new that isn't "Firefox before Mozilla bad".
And Tor, but I didn't count Tor.
What about Brave?
I have no idea
It's Chromium.
Zen and tor are FF based
Braves chromium
for the most part, pretty much all of the browser forks are chromium unless explicitly stated otherwise
ive always found it interesting brave is chromium
since the ceo was the mozilla cofounder
The thing is that Chromium is made to be forked by design. It's highly modular and it's easy to adjust it to make your own browser. Firefox is much more monolithic.
Also, Firefox uses a license that requires developers to publish all modifications, so closed-source proprietary forks are impossible.
Looks pretty
Ngl I tbjnk I like looking at the gifs more thab I would actually play the game
honestly same, the gifs are so satisfying
You get all the 😌 but none of the 😔
I mean I got home ate dinner slammed the dishes into the dishwasher and left to run
running from the dishes, what a mood
it's smoller!
I am fully imagining you basketball slam dunking dishes into the dishwasher though, it's a very humorous image

Shockah is that game turing complete
Scoring high is "bad".. unless you commit to it as hard as possible and come up with a marvel of anti-optimization. I'm certain this is the largest number yet to come out of an Opus Magnum design.

oh they're maximising for cycles
Maximizing??????
why
(She says, as if “why not” isn’t a reason she herself uses, including for something a few days ago before something popped up where I needed to be away for a bit)
I guess aiming for arbitrarily many cycles but still a valid solution without arbitrarily many instructions is interesting
Shockah you'd poisoned my YouTube recommendations
apparently it is, aside from the infinite tape requirement
I mean those are never respected
I once asked a CS tutor if it needs to be infinite or finite but arbitrarily large and he looked at me funny and told me there's no such thing as infinite, the universe will end eventually, sometimes infinite just means like 1000
One zh way to say everything is 万物 which is like 10000 things
Clearly not a mathematician
exactly
also I wasn't lying btw I'm 2 puzzles away from finishing the DLC when I stopped last night
though actually that's only the main story, there's still the bonus puzzles
so technically I'm only 45% done
story-wise I like that the DLC's protagonist is a different unique flavor of "jackass insufferable genius" than the main story's protagonist
I know, playing Zachtronics games for the story is like going to KFC to have a burger (even if a delicious one)
Next time I get a float == float.Infinity, I’ll be sure to file a bug with MS or Intel about it /s
What's a KFC
Do they sell burgers?
no idea, but I hear that they're finger licking good!
I need to make myself some burgers
With me it's always a fun question of what I make and what I buy
I make everything unless I am lazy, which is often the case
In this particular case:
Make:
- Burger
- Bun
Buy:
- Flour
- Onion
- Tomato
- Cheese
Unknown: pickles....I want lactic acid pickles, do I make them?
real burger chefs make their tomatoes and onions from scratch as well smh my head
I'm also not raising cows for this
But if I didnt live in TX I wojld legitimately try to grow tomatoes
I am so picky about burgers I don’t even try
The platonic ideal of a hamburger is an in n out burger
(To me)
So if the bun doesn’t taste like theirs, or it doesn’t have the right sauce, or no onions, all those count against it
You may be wondering about the mayo or lack thereof. I dont like mayo. I'm not using mayo.
I absolutely love the mayo/ketchup/pickles/whatever special sauce
I don’t love mayo by itself
mayo is such a weird condiment, especially when Americans use it as a butter alternative in sandwiches, it's completely different!
A thin layer of mayo is the key to the perfectly crunchy grilled cheese sandwich. Or perfectly toasted buns.
Oooo I will have to try that
I don't miss much about living in TX, but the BBQ lives up to the hype, and Central Market was an awesome grocery store and there's nothing nearly as good where I live now
I eat pebbles for nutritional benefits
(please do not take my advice, side effects could be: Possible passing, high blood pressure, removal from the universe)
I see a lot of medical ads always list the most serious side effects that scare me away haha
Lucy is a bird confirmed
We have an HEB!
Which is nice
I dont make enough money for Central Market
I mostly got my pantry staples from the regular grocery store, but Central Market was for good produce, meats, and cheeses.
HEB is the mother ship, Central is their more posh store
I think my regular store was Tom Thumb IIRC
I tend to go to
- HEB
- Chinese store
- Costco
- Aldi
I love linux
I spent thr last four days at work with a frozen panel because it crashed and there wasn't a good chance to log in and out

Oh have you's seen https://wikigacha.com/?lang=EN% ? it's a gatcha card battler game like pokemon trading cards but based entire on wikipedia entries
omg discord either you work with <> or you don't
I do not have choice
my list is similar but with 2 other local chains in place of heb and aldi, plus trader joes in the rotation
the local chains are ~weekly (alternating, with a bias towards the better one), the others are ~monthly
Which Aldi do you have in the US? The one from southern Germany or the one from northern Germany?
This one
That's the good one, and I'm totally not biased because I'm from the south.
By the way, it took me ten years to notice that this is supposed to be an A.
Oh apparently Trader Joes in Aldi Nord owned, so technically the US has both, my mistake
I am fully with you that Aldi south is better, Admittedly I have only ever been in 2 Aldi norths so it's not very scientific XD
the Netherlands only has Aldi Nord I think
That's an interesting development.
What is it supposed to be then ?
It's like how ASDA is now a subsidiary of Walmart, which is so confusing at times
also ? they're 2 differents ALDI ?
because of East and West Germany I think?
It's supposed to be an "A". The weird blue ribbon thingy on the orange logo.
Ohh misread, thought you said "isn't supposed to be an A" mb
In the 50s there were two brothers who owned a few stores, apparently they disagreed over cigarette sales, the younger one went North, the other South.
interesting
1961 according to wikipedia
That's 50s. Kinda. Not really.
the famous year of the 50s, 1961
1861 is the year they separated into 2 society
Oh, Adidas and Puma were brothers as well who disagreed and split.
Kinda funny.
I wanna say theres another company that was the same, I'm thinking the Mars company but I can't find anything saying it is
Twix likes to pretend that the left and the right is made by different competing brothers.
And that's Mars.
I think that's where I'm getting the idea of mars from for sure
Twix also released a fictional story about the creation of Twix called "The Tale of Seamus and Earl." Two brothers, Seamus and Earl, worked together "to combine biscuit, caramel and chocolate into one beautiful bar," but while making the biscuit bar, the two feuded and disputed techniques, such as how to add the chocolate or caramel. At the grand unveiling of the Twix, the two brothers accidentally broke the Twix bar; that being the final straw, the two brothers split the company into two factories: one for left Twix and one for right Twix.
damn in this case one of em was a lot more successful than the other
Kinda. Though I have a soft spot for Puma exactly because of that.
Rooting for the undercat.
Adidas practically runs several countries as far as shoes or sportswear goes
I'd assume they're the most popular sports brand out there
I think Nike is still more popular. Don't they own Converse?
The shoes that have that white cap thingy.
you what?? Converse are the THE alt/skater shoe brand (would not recommend buying though, their quality has dropped drastically)
I had a pair of custom platforms and they were amazing, thankfully got them just before the quality drop
I bought two pairs of custom ones last year and they are basically broken now.
Is there a good alternative for custom shoes?
Though I want to switch to barefoot shoes anyway.
Nike ftw 🗣️
I'm about as far removed from the skater aesthetic as you can be I apologize
For custom ones, not that I know of, I only wear military surplus boots now so I would have no idea
typst...

I like Brooks
Also popular in gyms because of the flat soles
I've got that IT team privilege I have admin rights to my pc
Flat soles are something people look for? I thought that was a negative of converse, hmm
flat soles are better for slipping and dying
Do u even lift bro :P
When lifting yes, offer more stability
absolutely not
lifting scares me
I already have scoliosis. I'll do 1 bad form deadlift and split in half
Converse are good for wheel gymnastics because the sole is really flexible.
Ahh I don't think I have ever lifted so that was not a thought that crossed my mind
Crum ble
nicest is to use something like vscode with the extension for it for the live preview
Crum BLE
(Crumble with bluetooth support)
Low energy bluetooth aswell, fancy!
Tbh I have no clue what most of you guys look like
I am, of course, an orange cat with a drill and oscilloscope
late game puzzle I'm quite proud of
I'm an undulating mass of flesh often dressed in the colour black, with the occasional bit of jewellery to prettify the appearance
With converse
Oh not anymore, with military boots
Is this constrained area
No room for a spinning hexagon I see
See I'm trying to see if any of the other arms can do double duty
The one on the far right seems very still
catastrophic for the cycles optimizers
you know what would be a good way to examine these kinds of questions? get the game
area optimizers don't even notice the space was constrained
area optimizers cry because there's no area stat on these levels
(it's replaced by instruction count)
yeah that arm's only purpose is ti speed things up by a couple instructions per cycle
Is it on sale
it's so the tiny shaking arm doesnt have to fetch a new input itself
I think the dlc is right now? not sure about base game
Am I allowed back in my steam account
it is on sale rn
50% off
I only know because I got a notification and I am very tempted to buy it XD
on steam you can refund it
if u dont like any game : )
as long as its under 2 hours if I'm not mistaken
2 hours and not after 2 weeks, unless there are other circumstances but that's at the discretion of steam themselves at that point
good to know
Are you optimizing for cycle length?
I'll get back to you on that
(of course, if you find something you're interested in)
my optimization strat for complex late game puzzles is "best effort cycle for the first working solution I put together"
I'm not a hardcode alchemist
are you a data-driven alchem-
darn, you edited it
I put the typo back
I love having to change some core assumptions about this ~250 line function that I wrote 6 months ago and did not comment
are you going to comment it this time
I don't have to refactor the entire function, so no
For stardew that's a small function
I'm just banishing float.NaN, which for some reason I thought at one point was a good idea to use for "does not exist" rather than float? or something
Not for a mod
I will properly document it (perhaps) when I get around to rewriting it to not be so absurdly slow
I wasn't even touching this class / area of things initially. But I need to fix a discrepancy related to some other stuff I was working on
What's the Y?
(Atlas recently ran into the NaN bug)
(or what was left of it - it was half fixed already)
it consumes a quicksilver atom at the bottom to create a clone of the metal atom placed in the top right at the top left
I wouldn't really call it a bug, just something not implimented fully yet
It sorta is, at least for where you encountered it
(the glyph on the bottom right of the Y transforms a metal into a lower form, giving you one quicksilver as a byproduct)
Top left sorts them?
the top left slots are the output
Okay, technically there are four documentation comments that are actually vaguely helpful.
Don't these looks like good uses of multi-dimensional arrays of primitives, instead of structs or named tuples?
bool[,] valid = // [direction][floor_to_ceiling=0, floor_to_adjacent_floor=1, ceiling_to_adjacent_ceiling=2, adjacent_floor_to_adjacent_ceiling=3]
{
// ...
};
float[,] edges = // [direction][floor_to_ceiling=0, floor_to_adjacent_floor=1, ceiling_to_adjacent_ceiling=2, adjacent_floor_to_adjacent_ceiling=3, custom=4]
{
// ...
};
float[,,] yForWalls = // [direction][floor_to_ceiling=0, floor_to_adjacent_floor=1, ceiling_to_adjacent_ceiling=2, adjacent_floor_to_adjacent_ceiling=3, custom=4][leftWallBase=0, rightWallBase=0, leftWallTarget=2, rightWallTarget=3]
{
// ...
};
float[,,] heightsForWalls = new float[yForWalls.GetLength(0), yForWalls.GetLength(1), 2]; // [direction][floor_to_ceiling=0, floor_to_adjacent_floor=1, ceiling_to_adjacent_ceiling=2, adjacent_floor_to_adjacent_ceiling=3, custom=4][left=0, right=1]
atra why would you :tada: at something so horrific
Thank yoba for regex find+replace
So you're slowly degrading a metal, I see
(yes that will probably cause regressions, but I'm hoping they will be ones I can ignore until later)
Anything nested and you may be royally screwed XD
There were none in that selection, no 😛
It was populating valid from the snippet above
Oh right, the other .net being weird thing I'm confused about
and then you found out that the special float values are incredibly cursed?
Added a parameter to this return-type-that-should-really-be-a-struct. What the heck is this error coming from?
public static (Vector3 Position, Vector3 QuadFacingNormal, Vector3 QuadVert00, Vector3 QuadVert10, Vector3 QuadVert01, Vector3 QuadVert11, float HeightBoundingSize, bool ShouldHide) GetPositionForTile(xTile.Map map, Point tile, bool? forCeiling_ = null)
That's awesome
I mean, I knew it already, I think my thought process back then was "well, if a tile shouldn't have data, then that would be "not a number", wouldn't it????"
And then months-later-casey started using that function in ways not intended back then
I once tracked down a nan in some camera code at work (when I worked at the job doing unreal engine stuff). I know how annoying the propagation is
are you sure you wanna use a nullable type, i thought you didnt like those /lh
why does it think it's a single element tuple...
The only NaN propagation I'm familiar with is the All Consuming Void™ of shader stuff XD
Yeah, I'm missing smth
I don't hate nullable value types, I use them a lot.
I hate the nullable reference type config being on 😛
THAT'S WHAT I'M WONDERING
It thinks you want a single element tuple
Yeah it's not just shaders. Any NaN usage will do that once they appear (unless you check for it and replace it)
I think most NaN issues I have come across have lead directly to a program crash which I think I prefer to crashless propagation XD
That's Nan for you
(also for what it's worth, I'm somewhat coming around to the idea... not at the point of enabling it for my mods yet, though 😛 )
alpha patch notes vc: the nullable annotations will continue until morale improves
Net framework 4.0
I mean, my main problem with it is that it treats code without the marker that didn't have it enabled as being okay by default
I've never touched net framework 4.0 and I'm glad I dont have to
If it was "assume stuff that wasn't marked as supporting it is untrustworthy"? I'd be more up for it
(at least for new code - not so much migrating all my existing code)
huh, removing the float and the coresponding value in new() is fine
Does Tuple max out at 7 parameters for the constructor
Yeah I see that now, kinda
What the heck is "T1, T2, ... T7, TRest" supposed to indicate???
why even allow that then
C# doesn't have variadics
I skipped those because I didn't want to type them
It's public struct ValueTuple<T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, TRest>
I'm specifically talking about "what the heck is TRest rather than T8???????"
ValueTuple.Create Method (System) | Microsoft Learn https://share.google/YclhRbDRV1j4Nt3h3
And TRest is the only parameter with an extra constraint (TRest : struct)
Yeah, no variadics
Tbh if you have a tuple of 8 elements you should consider a record struct
Ngl
That's not the issue. I'm wondering why they did this TRest nonsense rather than T8
They have to cut you off somehwere
Yeah this tuple originally had like 3 members
They decided on 7
And it gradually grew
C++ can go much further with templates
At this point, why can't they source generate ones that are long enough as necessary? /s
(I get why)
I believe if you search here you can find me saying that about every time I use a tuple I eventually make a record struct lol
I literally just did that at work the other week
~~ I have been under the impression it was thruple and only allowed 3 members this entire time ~~
New quote added by atravita as #7727 (https://discordapp.com/channels/137344473976799233/1215712021207720006/1483989654708682762)
in fairness to NaN propagation, if you multiply a non number by a number you do indeed get a non number
but 8 member tuple are too long
I dont blame them for cutting you off
Iro, I literally had a three member i turned into a NamedTuple
I'm with you there
that's why I'm laughing
hell I even make 2 member record structs
I do so many named tuple in python
As I said, it started out with like 3
Anything above 3 = struct, albeit entirely due to my own misunderstanding, wrong equation, right answer XD
Then I gradually add one or two as needed
Oh my god
It might have even started out with two to be honest
none existant quite frankly
Already, let's see if anything crashes and burns from the NaN banishment.
Or the change I was in the middle of that led to this
goes back to studying this
well that was quick
NaN prop's friend is X prop
"Why is the now-struct suddenly empty all the time????"
The constructor of the struct in question:
public PositionResult(Vector3 pos, Vector3 quadNormal, Vector3 quadTL, Vector3 quadTR, Vector3 quadBL, Vector3 quadBR, float heightBounding, bool shouldHide = false)
{
}
Ah yes, the walls have disappeared, and there is now a collection of giant black voids* clustered around one part of the world
* unfortunately, not the meowing kind
anyways this is getting more on topic than just "why is C# like this" so I'll stop
Tbh I actually like
Knew about the variadics thing/limited length of valuetuples thing
And was always like "I'm never gonna see that irl"
I wonder if c# will get variadics for generics some day

I'm very tempted, part of me wants to wait until tomorrow when the spring sale starts, but another part of me thinks it may not be on sale for anything cheaper than 50%
I refuse to, because I know I'll get too sucked into it.
I was aboit to ask when the steam summer sale was lol
I've just been going of SteamDB predictions, hopefully it is the spring sale tomorrow, it's a bit later than usual I think?
Hmm maybe
Itd not even spring yet
2 days away
It's not spring?
It's green outside and I hear the spring music
Time for planting!
We have snow still
ahhahah
the extra quicksilver/lead is annoying me otherwise this would have been such a pretty solution 😭
this doesn't really show it but they build up in the hex arm on the right
damn it's not a true perfect loop
nor can it go on forever
I'm installing Arch, I can't play it until I'm done setting up the DE and Steam...
Dad's visiting this weekend
Then I'm not sure when my next weekend is
Damn someone could probably write a thesis on electrical usage patterns
And daylight savings
Usage is up but the sun isn't out out yet :(
4.5%
Was perfect temp last night so light or little hvac I suspect
how do you get rid of the extra lead
wait I just saw your answer below lol
hmm maybe one extra arm at the top? it would be swinging air in the gif though
I don’t care about the gif as much as having a nicer solution haha. but I don’t think an extra arm would help the inherent imbalance here
the arm helps deposit the extra lead once they reach the top
as mentioned it'd be swinging air until that point
deposit where?
if it’s to replace the current lead you would end up having an extra quicksilver
You can sneak the quicksilver over to thr quicksilver exit
