I've confirmed the data's all there and fine... the EFI partition exists, and has the stuff on it to boot.

Well if it is the parsing I'm not sure what you can do? You can't account for external factors that are too on topic to mention changing the images, so you'll have to reparse anyways unless those external factors specifically have a prepared version for you
