Having kirby as the first unlock in ultimate was nice

#

since Kirby is the character I play exclusively

steel kraken
#

I'm pretty sure my ultimate playthrough was just solo kirby

devout vault
#

Glad he wasn't a late game one like some of the characters, or I never would've played through ultimate story mode

#

Also KAR2 has a unique-per-character ultimate move system just like modern smash

#

Also the plethora of gameplay options they've shown in the KAR2 direct, compared to smash stuff

What do you mean? This channel has always been about kirby air riders

I will see you all, my fellow air riders, in… like 4 hours I guess.

what kind of spider? like the ones with legs as long as runway models or like the ones with an actually normal leg:body ratio

if it has legs for days they can get gone, I hate those, why do they need such long thin legs, if its the other one, Aww cute!

devout vault
#

Hopefully one day we'll have access to switch 2 homebrew/emulation for modding. Then it can be programming

hushed raven
#

I love finding out when someone discovers a way to homebrewify nintendo consoles, it's always some of the oddest ways too

devout vault
#

The switch method was certainly unique

hushed raven
#

is that the one that only works on the first gen switches? or is there another one thats unknown to me?

devout vault
#

I think so, yeah

hushed raven
#

I think my fav one was the Wii letterbomb method, the software ones are the ones I find interesting, the hardware ones to me are less desirable due to having to physically modify the device

devout vault
#

I mean you didn't have to modify the hardware for the first gen switch method

#

Stick a thingy in the joycon rail, maybe also hold a button? done

#

I got a little premade thingy

#

Red is for joycon, can’t recall what the bigger one is for since I thought it read from SD

hushed raven
#

Oh I was thinking of another first gen switch method, I was thinking of the ACE method "Fusée Gelée" (has to search the name for it bc theres no chance I can remember it"

devout vault
#

That’s what this is

#

I think

#

It involved some ACE too probably

hushed raven
#

Ohhh I didn't know that required touching contacts, I thought it was just software based only

devout vault
#

But like, the point was that the joycon rail thing was that it would trigger some factory setting (hence why it couldn't be firmware patched) where an exploit was found

hushed raven
#

How do you think someone discovered that? my guess is either a leak from a worker or disassembling the console and dumping the boot file

devout vault
#

It was disassembly fromm what I remember

#

Well

#

Sorta

#

Disassembly software side, yeah

#

Can't recall if the hardware side was an accident or if it was careful examination

#

Some more tomorrow, then the same schedule next weekend

#

Then release on the 20th

safe dragon
#

kar release the day after oldschool runescape's first new skill release

hushed raven
#

OSRS still get's new things? wow

safe dragon
#

oh yeah osrs has like 200k concurrent players

#

they released a new continent this year

#

and now the sailing skill with essentially the entire ocean becoming traversable

hushed raven
#

oh shit thats really cool, I may have to pick it up again, I thought it only got bug fixes dispite the very extensive player base

#

wonder if I can play PoE and OSRS at the same time, they're both very time consuming games I wanna play

safe dragon
#

oh yeah no I play both of those but never simultaneously

#

that's like having 2 full time jobs next to my actual job

hushed raven
#

it really is, isn't osrs one of the few games that actually allows bots or am I miss rememebring that?

safe dragon
#

even just the osrs rerelease is 12 years old at this point

#

the first few years players were still very protective of keeping things the same at fear of it going in the wrong direction like RS3 did but eventually that shifted and they gained more trust and we actually started getting proper updates

#

rs3 might hopefully shed some of its worst aspects soon as they've now committed to completely removing the lootbox system and most of the pay to win shop items

hushed raven
#

I like lootboxes if they use ingame currency that can't be bought with actual money, pay to win however I hate with every inch of my soul, I'd gladly pay for a game but never pay to win

devout vault
safe dragon
#

oh that was just a gambling system, you did get free rolls but in the same way gacha give you free ways to obtain them to bait you into the gambling system

devout vault
#

If you do the top tier of the next expansion preorder, you get a teleporter for your house that takes you to any of the new expansion's dungeons! (The tier is $250)

#

(The only other things that tier gives is tradeable real money stuff, essentially)

safe dragon
#

it's kinda necessary because at this point for rs3 to get rid of much of its MTX cause rs3 gets only like 1/10th the players of osrs and it just keeps decreasing. Their predatory monetisation model might have earned them a lot more money at first but if it eventually just kills the game...

devout vault
#

(Tradeable versions of: redeemable standard version of the expansion, character level boost, character slot, exp potions, legendary mount, legendary mercenary, character level boost but for crafting)

safe dragon
devout vault
#

Oh this is just evil. An 88 slot bag for the $130 tier

#

(For reference, the largest craftable backpack is 64 slots)

#

Back when I was playing the biggest bag you could get was 66 slots, and you could only get it from the guide events I think

#

(guide = "official" volunteers that help people, and have tools to do custom in game events sometimes)

safe dragon
#

that definitely feels like a "try and get as much money out of this burning ship" situation

devout vault
#

Well, it's been getting worse for years

safe dragon
#

yeah that's how it goes

devout vault
#

Stat inflation (both numbers, and amount of types of stats (because they keep adding new stats to try and patch the stat inflation problems) )

#

Economy is laughable

#

They basically have official real money plat trading, since they have an item you can buy that's tradable and also redeemable for a month of access

safe dragon
devout vault
#

(Yeah this game has a monthly subscription too. I think there's free to play too, but it's pretty limited)

#

By "pretty limited", I mean stuff like:

  • can't upgrade your spells all the way
  • can't freely use the auction house equivalent
  • can't freely use the mailbox
  • can't freely use guilds
    etc.
#

"Ability to use certain equipment groups ", didn't know about that one

#

It's ridiculous.

rain apex
#

My take away is everquest is still alive?

devout vault
#

(And it's not nearly as limited as when it came out)

devout vault
#

I think everquest next or whatever 3 was gonna be called got canceled years ago

rain apex
#

It feels like one of those "history of computer games" titles

devout vault
#

I mean, yeah

rain apex
#

Next to ultima online

devout vault
#

EQ1's popularity predates WOW I think

#

oh god, you can "level up your membership with new additional perks" nowadays

safe dragon
#

both versions of runescape have bonds which are absolutely pay to win in a sense but one people have just kinda accepted. Essentially you can buy "bonds" with real money which can be turned in for either membership or sold to another player in-game for gp. This means you can essentially buy gold but there's at least the flip side that people with enough gp to spare can sustain membership purely by buying bonds from the auction house without using real money at all

devout vault
safe dragon
#

bonds + membership are essentially the only monetization method for osrs barring like... merch

#

meanwhile rs3 has like 3 gazillion monetization systems

#

they've done it all

devout vault
#

(laundering in game money)

safe dragon
#

even a battle pass system which was hated so extremely that they removed it almost immediately

devout vault
#

(which meant even new servers could not escape the currency inflation)

#

EQ2 has a lot of stuff in the in game shop too

#

Like, mercenaries (hired party member NPCs, basically) have a lootbox variant with different tiers (of course)

#

Special designed houses that you can't get any other way

#

Tons of cosmetic stuff

safe dragon
#

tbh that's the norm for mmos even though it's sad

devout vault
#

Tons of not cosmetic stuff (exp potions, an insta-revive if you're alone, etc.)

safe dragon
#

osrs is a rather bizarre case study as far as succesful games go

devout vault
#

(The insta-revive really irked me when it was added because the class I played had a unique ability that did exactly that. It wasn't limited to solo, though)

#

(And later they also added a version that any healer could access, not just druid subclasses)

#

(But that also meant I had like 2-3 different abilities that did that by the time I stopped playing)

#

Wow, they removed deity abilities? I know they didn't do much but man, those were fun

#

Oh that might be different than the niche feature nobody used that I'm thinking of

#

Where you picked one to worship and gave offerings and got abilities based on your favor

#

Average max level health was over 1 billion at minimum though (As of early 2024 it seems)

#

Of a player, enemies had much more

#

I see a post from 5 years ago that says "Damage is by the trillions before luclin ends and the devs claims there are no issues" (luclin being an expansion I think)

#

Also, an item from around that time. Some of these things I haven't seen either

#

I did like how number crunchy EQ2 could be, to be honest. I like all the numbers I can make big.

#

But I'm not sure such high numbers of HP are good

#

...and keep in mind every time you inflict/receive/heal damage, a floating number pops up in world (unless you turn it off)

#

It might do that for other people's stuff around you, too

#

Kronos sell for like 50 billion plat as of early this year it seems (depending ont he server)

#

When my family played early on, even 2-3 plat was hard to get

#

They also capped how high items could be priced on the broker, so you had to do trading instead a lot of the time, I think

#

Also the expansions these days are much much smaller, with them used to having entire continents, but now only having like one or two overworld zones

#

Anyways, I'm done with the "my childhood MMO I have fond memories of playing with my entire family has become bleh" rant

cinder karma
dusty pollen
# pliant snow I have no idea what the 9-1.2 etc means in this

I think the weirdest part for me is the diameter of 16 seemingly not being either the major or minor diameter but instead the diameter that touches the outside of that centre hole/pin

other than that, I assume 9 pins with diameter 1.2mm lower tolerance -0.0mm and upper tolerance +0.1mm, arranged one along the minor axis 2.65mm from the centre and the other 8 at even 45degree intervals starting at 22.5degrees from the major (or minor) axis

but if that’s meant to be an ellipse we’re missing data to actually know how large it is, we need at least one other known diameter

cinder karma
#

There are eight pins though

#

I counted

dusty pollen
#

I think the last one is the middle one

#

that I was referring to

cinder karma
#

The 2,65?

dusty pollen
#

yeah, the one that’s 2.65 from the centre

pliant snow
#

I think the weirdest part for me is the diameter of 16 seemingly not being either the major or minor diameter but instead the diameter that touches the outside of that centre hole/pin
The pins are actually around the circumference of the device, there's no material that extends further

#

There are nine pins in total, I think it's referring to that

#

the eight on the outer edge, then the one in the middle off center

dusty pollen
#

no I mean that the 16mm diameter isn’t horizontal or vertical, it’s defined as bordering the inner pin

cinder karma
#

Hmm

#

I think that might have been just a clean place to draw that

pliant snow
#

yeah

dusty pollen
#

is it a circle or an ellipse?

cinder karma
#

What is this anyways

pliant snow
#

circular

dusty pollen
#

#

cinder karma
#

dusty pollen

pliant snow
#

cinder karma
#

No footprint?

pliant snow
#

Nope, none that I could find anywhere

sand frost
#

I assume it's a typo and it should be 8 instead of 9

pliant snow
#

Yeah, I'm going with that

#

I assume they mean the middle hole as the ninth

sand frost
#

(these are standard engineering formats for the most part)

#

yeah, i suppose the off-center one is being included

#

that's...kind of bad practice, but i guess if it works it works

cinder karma
#

Yeah that looks weird

#

Ngl

pliant snow
#

the footprint file wasn't as hard to make as I thought, assuming I did it correctly

#

I haven't done schematic stuff in years

sand frost
pliant snow
#

Although I definitely labeled the pins wrong, I didn't notice they're actually numbered on the device itself, I'll have to fix that

sand frost
#

everything in the drawing indicates to me it got compressed sideways somehow

#

(i actually didn't even realize that was causing confusion because I'm used to nonsense like this on poorly compressed images of drawings)

cinder karma
#

Hey, i tbihght the 9 was the diameter because there were clearly 8 screws lol

#

In the future buy your shit from digikey and download the provided footprint SDVkrobusgiggle

pliant snow
#

All the other stuff I got from digikey for this project, but if they had something like this I couldn't find it

#

I've bought stuff from adafruit in the past and like it, I only now learned that they offer no footprint or schematic files for anything

sand frost
#

digikey i feel is somewhat inconsistent in the documentation

#

they do usually have something from the manufacturer but sometimes it's not much

pliant snow
#

All of it is apparently just handled via a third party site it seems

sand frost

digikey does admittedly usually have eveything so I'm a little surprised

pliant snow

There's no treesitter config at all in the neovim repositories, and I couldn't get their LSP to load

#

I could try ruby I guess

#

It's the same syntax more or less, why not

uncut seal
#

maybe my challenge for AoC this year would be to do it with neovim

#

I have it setup since spring but barely used it

#

I should also do C++, but I'd have to lookup how to compile it properly again

hushed raven
#

I've been tempted to try neovim but honestly I've been a tad scared of it, it looks so simple yet so complicated at the same time

safe dragon
#

I'll be using helix but I also use that at work so not a challenge

#

no idea what language yet tho

#

tooling is often what makes me end up deciding against a language

But isnt some obscure mess I have no reason to learn

hushed raven
#

That's what I'm using it for, using Python, Lua, or JS just feels like a wasted opportunity to me

safe dragon
#

haskell wasn't new to me, I'd built a compiler in it before for uni

#

that definitely helped

cinder karma
#

Haskell isnt new to me either

#

But I haven't used it much

pliant snow
safe dragon
#

uh oh

#

is it a curse of systems programming languages

#

string handling

#

oh... zig doesn't have a string type

#

it's just a byte array

#

that is a great way to break everything the moment you deal with multibyte characters

cinder karma
#

Like AoC requires you to ever deal with multibyte

pliant snow
#

I saw something about manually allocating memory and decided to bounce

it do be a manual memory management language

safe dragon
devout vault
#

Should I try doing AoC this year, I haven’t in a while, I think

#

Clearly, I should do AoC in SDV 1.7 alpha trigger actions

pliant snow
#

there's only 12 puzzles this year

#

actually idk what date it starts on now

The Futhark compiler generates code that can be easily integrated with non-Futhark code.

You should do it in x86

Hello, i have question
why this game we use Save Serializer with XmlSerializer, not binary or json or other framework?

i know we can't move XmlSerializer to another framework because it very big task

But in terms of feasibility, which frameworks could be used as a replacement for XmlSerializer and are faster?

Which you can go to and explore very far if you want, but there's literally nothing there, and literally every person and book and such in game will tell you.

Just because I'm curious how many people would complain about the post-apocalyptic wastelands that everything ingame tells you is empty is, in fact, empty

No idea what you're talking about, that is entirely true without a shadow of a doubt, C is an easy language because it's interpreted /s

I do love stumbling across infographics like this, they always make me giggle given the utter codswollop they have on them

safe dragon

idk if I'd let python write scripts I don't trust that guy

dusty pollen

some of these are real words I'm just not sure what they mean

Try IData?

austere comet
#

try IData is giving me the middle finger so i'd rather not find out what it means by that

prisma flume
#

ah the famous square-curly brace we use to Write Scripts

#

i guess it's kind of correct using the classic drive/database icon for Make Websites but i cant even begin to understand why it's using the android for Analyze Tasks

hushed raven
#

Show idea being that mess of orange and not a light bulb like one of the write script is baffling to me, lightbulbs are always for ideas

Sciendelss being a cog with a pentagon in the middle is like the only logical one!

hushed raven
#

It is until you realise that cog wouldn't actually work bc theres nowhere for the shaft to go bc the bore is taken up by the pentagon, Manage Data is a pretty logical one too, it looks like a spreadsheet/table

oh ho the big boy

#

oh do they finally have linux layouts now

#

It's weird they offer a single 48 GB stick and not two 24 GB ones, I guess you don't get dual channel

hushed raven
#

I'm still waiting for a 360 touch screen version either made by the community or framework themselves, once that happens I am so buying one

cinder karma
#

Tbh 360 touch screen (I have an acer with one) isn't that great

#

And fatally compromised the hinge tbh

#

48GB of RAM is insanely good though

hushed raven
#

atp I can't use a laptop without it, I would go for a tablet but the lack of upgradability and locked down OS make that very much unideal, The hinge is 100% the failure point on 360 laptops, thats where my last one broke and I've been angry about it ever since

cinder karma
#

My seven or nine year old baby is beautiful and fine

#

But she's spent the last two years sitting on a laptop stand and even before that I was pretty careful

#

(Yes. I refer to my laptop (and my car) as my babies.)

devout vault
hushed raven
#

Would dual channel RAM be noticeably faster when using DDR5 5600? surely at that point it's being limited by the programs themselves/moving from drive to RAM than the RAM

thin estuary
hushed raven
#

I couldn't notice a difference on DDR3 3333 dual channel or single channel at least (but I don't use much thats heavy on RAM)

I’ve never really researched it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I didn’t really think about it

cinder karma

I don't wear them for running! I wear them day to day and for lifting lol

thin estuary
#

I’m having a hard time telling if that’s more or less use

cinder karma
#

More use but less demanding

#

I like to lift as close to barefoot as possible

thin estuary
#

By use I meant demand x time

cinder karma
#

The uppers have mostly detached at this point lol

thin estuary
#

Wow we’re doing shoe math now

cinder karma
#

So like. It's more use tbh but I demand less of shoes I'm not running in

#

Also.

#

Running shoes are expensive lol

thin estuary
#

That they are

#

I don’t run, but my mom does

cinder karma
#

Everyone in my family runs

thin estuary
#

It hurts my head whenever I hear about how much she spent on her new running shoes, like, every year

cinder karma
#

Lol

#

A single pair is $80usd

#

Tbh it's less expensive than therapy so

thin estuary
#

I think she pays about twice as much

cinder karma

The way I think of it.....those shoes are expensive but medical care costs way more haha

Life pro tip

steel kraken
#

wait the desk unbreaks the back and not the chair?

prisma flume
#

well if you're standing up there is no chair to break your back

steel kraken
#

my desk is entirely sit-stand and I think I've only genuinely used it in standing configuration like 10 times (outside of lifting it for cleaning underneath)

prisma flume
#

i hear that a lot lol

steel kraken
#

also annoying to ensure everything is cabled to work

prisma flume
#

hoping that a combination of 'my daily desk is still here in a different room with all my stuff' and 'my back is on the brink of destruction' is enough to keep me standing often at a separate work desk

#

and of course 'this desk costs more than i'm worth'

safe dragon
#

the work desks are sit-stand desk as well and I don't think I've seen anyone use them standing after the first week we had them

prisma flume
#

well standing like a lamppost in the middle of the office is a little odd lol

#

there's a couple people at my office with a standing desk riser but they don't use them

safe dragon
#

I prefer just doing my lunch walk

prisma flume

mm, i try to stand fairly often at work and walk on breaks. any excuse to not sit down the whole day

I don't think it stands for anything, it was just easy to type in morse code

dusty pollen

oh it doesn’t stand for anything, yeah

#

apparently you could also equivalently do IWB or 3B and end up with the same morse code (since SOS is transmitted without breaks between the letters)
