I mean you're going to need a fair few of em unless you want unfilled holes on the side of ur laptop
I mean, sure, but I mean.
I don't want to stop at 6
Like "what if I ever need ethernet connection" or "what if Iever need to connect a microsd AND an sd, or even multiple of one" or "what if I end up needing to use an audio hack"
lol
And that's ignoring that you always need more USB C/A slots
(And that some displays only support one of USC B, HDMI, and DP, so who knows what combination I'll need???)
(you can always buy more later)
If they were like $50 each it'd be one thing
But most are ~$20, and the USB ones are closer to $10
What the heck
You can get a cheaper power adapter elsewhere
If you're not going for maximum wattage for a graphics module
So this isn't really a big deal
I mean the graphics module was out of stock, so...
...this amuses me more than it has any right to
That's very cute
I have never needed an ethernet connection but for once (to debug a router)
Thankfully my work laptop has ethernet
I'm one of few that have it
My work desktops all have Ethernet
We would not function without that
I actually wish they had more Ethernet ports
I don't have ethernet wiring at home :(
everything is on wifi
except maybe the one TV right next to the router? but actually even that might be on wifi
A framework can have up to 6 if you don't need any other ports!
My dad doesn't want cables going all the way upstairs, so I'm always on wifi
You can put them in in post!
We actually installed extra network cards!
Because NI
A lot of our devices use ethernet to communicate so
i don't think a framework is what i need for a lab computer sadly
i want stationary and reasonably powerful, repairability is low on the list
I think I can also get the USB expander thingys
Intellinet Gigabit PCI Express Network Card - Office Depot https://share.google/GpyQcYYBI5KenKHGY
Can you get unused machines from it?
You know my life would be a lot better if opening a file in vim wojld attempt a checkout
I bet i could get vim to do that
Vscode....now has AI integration
At least that makes some sense. Shoehorning AI into everything is like the new running Java.
Why does pandas take so long
Hasn't vscode had AI integration for a while
I get the copilot popup everyt ime I open it
alias vim=git pull;vim
I think atra meant checkout in the other source control sense
ie. the ones that require checking out a file before editing
VSCode had AI functionality via an extension, but it now has "proper" MCP server support
now do that with their funky ass version control instead git
It's about time vscode had Minecraft Coder Pack support
didn't realize Affinity was bought by canva and now it's free with a subscription plan

"I wonder why my code isn't picking up shift being held"
looks at the copy-pasted code checking it, and notices it says Control and not Shift
Didn't you know, fruit color = healthy
Starburst is such a delicious, healthy snack, don't you agree?
This python code has emoji in the comments
dont forget pizza is a vegetable
Pizza's vegetable-ness composition not inheritance, smh
I didn't say starburst is a fruit
"healthy" is transitive and based on color
"is a fruit" or "is a veggie" is not
They were tasty
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
(Screaming due to two programs expecting slightly different formats)
atra you should contribute to thedailywtf
Wish VS debugger had a "go to IL" mode (instead of just code and disassembly)
Because this isn't very helpful
And neither is this
Everyone just tells me to chat...feels wrong
chatting do be what you do in a chat
You can also try cat pictures
Ah, thin python wrapper, we meet again
I love python
Questionable definition of relative path we meet again
I love undocumented command line arguments
What are these performance improvement flags
got jumpscared by github's contribution graph's halloween colors
so a normal wall
I think americans aren't used to those
No, standard cubicle walls accept push pins usually
Really?
yeah
I've only ever seen cubicles in TV series and movies
I've always just had regular desks without any walls.
The whole team would just share the same room
every team has their own room
We have half cubicles
every company I've seen was more of a "one big space all the teams shared with some sitting areas etc to break it up" situation but same vibe, low dividers behind the computer to separate it from the desk behind but that's it
My last job had this for the original office
After moving offices they had what I can only describe as "mega cubicles" (basically, like 3 times the size, with a person in each corner). Usually separated by discipline (like programmers together, artists together, etc.) and possibly current project
tbh I think the only reason it isn't like that for me rn is because we need a space that requires extra security clearance
fancy words for "my employee card works on this door and yours doesn't"
though really what I personally do there wouldn't really require that clearance I feel like
idk I appreciate having a little more quiet
Why does .doc editing suck
Two lines of text have an extra line between them, and I need to compress things
Backspace? Removes both lines. Enter after the backspace? Adds two lines
Shift changes nothing
Copy paste the text into notepad? There is in fact an extra line
aaaaaaaaaa
- wysiwyg
- microsoft
(Also an extra space I could see but word's caret was pretending didn't exist)
Take out the line in notepad and paste over it?
Fine, until I add the styling back, in which case it's even worse
in a more civilized world we will all be using markdown/tex
we'll also get nothing done in time in said world but shh
I would literally have an easier time doing this in HTML/CSS than this
At the very least, then I could inspect element and see what the heck is going on
Turning off all line spacing after paragraph fixed it
if you cant get anything done in time bc you're using (la)tex thats just a sign you havent been using it enough already
it should be second nature to you by the time you're 25
Also why can't I make this table shorter despite the contents having like 5 lines worth of extra contents
(...oh, I only cleared out the empty newlines on one side)
Why is the down arrow selecting everything at the end of the table instead of something sane, like going to the next row
(But only after typing text into the cell)
I'm already past the age where my brain can no longer retain new information why do you think I keep using vim
I'm literally one foot in a retirement home
I break my knees three times per day, morning, noon and night
better start writing your DNR order in tex now then while you've still got a chance
(re:this)
(no gif of the full scene with glass bones and such)
(This might just be something weird with the web version I guess - don't wanna pay for ms365 just to edit one document a month at most, and the web version is free for some reason because it's incredibly janky)
Formatted text documents were invented as en evil scheme by the printer lobby, because our suffering with those wasn't enough
Getting the tattoo as we speak
Smh I could livetex lecture notes in my late teens and my mom still thinks I'm a failure
Real talk I actually do need a will and a living will now š
I first misread that as "a will to live"
Yeah, that too
Selph if you're old I'm ancient
what is this fancy font
Fancy font?
Oh, my username?
New discord thing I think
Customization option
Forgot I did that since my desktop's client was out of date
I liked it conceptually but unsure about in execution
The top left of the K looks a little strange, and the 2 looks more like a backwards S
Oh course, those won't be an issue once KAR2 is out, since sooner or later after that I'll go back to just kittycatcasey
(most likely later rather than sooner)
it's amazing how quickly discord has been turned into wordart hell with all the colours, fonts, gradients, icons, tags, extra icons, animations,
Dont you have to play thr game first
Also fun for today
While I was digging through thr settings of the cadence schematic editor and assigning wires wild colors so I could find things
I found... blinkref
Blinkred
There are blinking versions of all the colors
Current kittyKAR2casey is the excitement of anticipation era
Later kittyKAR2casey will be the excitement of playing it era
animated profile pictures, animated frames, animated gradients, ...
So i can have a schematic of blinking wires if I hate my coworkers
I like my gradient blues
You should try it
Please bluebs
They're selling xtina's skirts again
It's y2k all over again
Skirts the size of a belt, dotcom boom to ai boom
need to become profitable and have a return of investment for the private equity firms somehow
Christina Aguilera!!!!!!
and paywalling cosmetics is less of a PR hit than paywalling features
they did try and fail to be a standalone game store getting that 30% cut on stuff
i would've bought a nitro subscription like 10 years ago if it wasn't bundled with all this visual junk
value-added fluff to raise the price to that lovely 150/yr
Kitty!
I thought it was 100/years if you do yearly
I only gave into nitro semi recently to discount the server boosts needed for the silly server tag, just out of spite to shutup people mentioning I didnt have their server tag selected
And 120 if you do monthly
Australian dolleros
Ohhh
So far I do not find discord worth paying for
that's a two?!
if people tell me to use their server tag im finding a way to unboost their server
You should use my server tag ||I dont have a server or a tag||
Yeah, once I updated discord up here I was like "wait... did my name get changed?"
Thanks for confirming I need to switch off of it š
I've never had that happen even before I set a server tag.
But then again, I hardly exist outside of stardew servers
I don't see new fonts
I guess discord is the new myspace
Anysays
I'm off to find some emo lyrics
To make my status message
It's a super recent update I think
And also I changed mine back
(temporary changed again so I can screenshot for you)
Zoe has another
I first noticed the font part for Raffie earlier today
But didn't realize that's what it was
I was just like "why is raffie's name a weird font" and moved on
I looked into it more when someone I DMed earlier had a different colored username in the DM list
Has anyone heard of this https://espanso.org/
I have no idea how that could work but it scares me
I assume via keylogging and copious backspacing
In its most basic form, a text expander is composed of two parts:
A global key detector that intercepts the keys pressed by the user, in order to determine if a trigger was typed.
A key injection mechanism that injects the final text into the current application, a process known as expansion.
At this point, some of you may think that espanso is acting as a key-logger, due to the global key detector we mentioned before. The good news is, it's not!
While espanso detects key presses as a keylogger would do, it doesn't log anything. Moreover, to further reduce risks, for regular matches, espanso only stores in memory the last five chars by default (you can change this amount by setting the backspace_limit parameter in the config), and this is needed to allow the user to correct wrongly typed triggers by pressing backspace, up to 5 characters. For regex matches the system can store up to 30 characters.
I mean I didn't mean keylogging literally š
why no mention of copious backspaces, smh
it seems to have glowing reviews
are the glowing reviews injected by the tool
im not sure how much I'd use it tho
I feel like I'd have a good amount of false positives which would be annoying
I think so long as you have a pretty unique command symbol you wouldn't be accidentally triggering it
and I already have the search bar thing from powertoys which would give me fast access to most of what it offers
working in apis, I would use stuff like :ip or :date or whatever semi often and moving from : to some cryptic thing would just be annoying
I keep ānumbers I sometimes needā in my notes app
Todayās date is in the top right corner, not hard to find
I keep email snippets saved as signatures
pinned items in windows clipboard history would also solve fetching constant stuff
(I mostly have āIām not taking grad students due to the small fact of not having a grad program hereā but Iām sure Iāll develop others)
So I should use the simoleons symbol, got it
windows what
win+v
huh
I was already fascinated by the streamdeck "clipboard button but it has its own memory" thing
(still haven't used it because I always forget it exists)
(and also I'm pretty sure the text on the key won't update based on the memory contents, so it'd be hard to remember)
Doesn't the windows copy and paste buffer have a memory od ten entries
I mean my brain buffer has a copy paste buffer of one (or less, depending on the day), so...
yes but you can pin entries and they will stay
also for me it appears to be 25 currently
You can change the limit in the registry IIRC
Not sure if there's a gui option for it
Return š codes š should š be š useful
Somewhat relevant
(I imagine most of us are familiar with this one, though)
of course
(You can turn them off in accessibility settings if you donāt want to see them)
let us customize everything and pay us for the privilege
it's better than ads I suppose
I don't mind this
Yeah I donāt mind it either
Itās better than them only moving random buttons around every few months for no reason
...atra please delete before discord steals your idea and makes it even worse somehow
-# Did you know that Rust is a modern programming language that's memory safe, blazingly fast, and fearlessly concurrent
caveat: async is a massive pain in the ass in rust
I love it
they were tired of causing bugs that actively harm your pc and went for something small today
hey, you can't be sure this doesn't actively harm your pc
I haven't been keeping track tbh, what have they been up to?
well they broke restore points I know that for sure
biggest was probably when they broke the recovery environment
ye yanno, the totally not important thing that totally doesnt help when your computer breaks XD
they had a fun bug where closing task manager via the close button would instead open another instance of task manager
you had to kill task manager via task manager to close it
I love that, I want that to just be a thing anyway XD
I forgot localhost was something they broke, what a mess XD
I've been on vacation so they knew they had the opportunity
they broke localhost? how? wha?
not to the same extent of these crimes but apparently latest Windows added an "internet speed test" button to its network menu, and all it does is open the default browser and Google/Bing "internet speed test"
there has never been a more "this feature vibe coded by AI" feature
at least it doesn't force open edge, I guess? because there are windows things that do
F1 for instance, I always used to miss press it then had to wait 3-5 business days for edge to load up
essentially they made some security changes to how it handles loopback network requests but the security update just make loopback requests fail completely
you'd lose connection with localhost which I find kind of beautiful
sorry your own computer is currently not reachable
they firewalled too close to the sun, now my computer is in the fire
can't have security bugs if it doesn't work
you'd think they have a test suite for localhost requests
actually you'd think they'd have test suites that rely on localhost requests
it's been a good time for windows haters
maybe that's how it passed
they actually only do tests where it's supposed to fail and all the localhost tests failed so it was successful
or maybe their tests search for a defined error code/text and it didn't come up /hj
"nope only fatal errors, not the one we're looking for"
I know this is a joke and not a real ad because there it wasnāt saying āblazing š„ fast š ā. Thatās like a requirement for rust
my favorite is blazingly fast marketing for things where the speed of it has never been a problem
How about stuff like the open LinkedIn hotkey (besides that predating vibe coding)
it's like every new terminal needing to talk about how it's blazingly fast like linux doesn't already have like 700 that fit that description
The day I encounter a slow terminal will be the day I fully leave eveything and live in a hovel
like man we ain't in windows where powershell takes 7 seconds to load your basic custom plugin config
āChatGPT, make me a terminalā
Just if you ever feel like forcing that
given the state ChatGPT is in rn it would probably not even launch
Infinitely slow, then. Couldnāt be better for this purpose
To classify it as slow I would have to benchmark it against another terminal, if it doesn't work that just classifies it as "Broken" and not "Slow"
even though it is infinitely slow by a technicality
But what if ādoesnāt launchā means āhangs, seemingly indefinitelyā instead of ācrash immediatelyā?
Then itās hard to tell if itās broken or if it would just take 10 years per command
for it to classify as "Working" to get addigned "Slow" it would have 1. load a window, 2. let me type a command, and 3. send the command on pressing Enter, so if it does that, doesn't crash, and still hangs I'll take that as slow, anything else is either broken or not good enough to turn me into "Local Woods Cryptid"
wait why am I justifying NOT becoming the local cryptid, stuff that, I shall be finding a hovel immediately
I mean I did say
It's actually happening???
"Hypixel Studios 2025" has been registered under the name of Hypixel Inc and 5350's co-owner, with Simon listed as an administrator.
(from https://www.reddit.com/r/hytale/comments/1olqijw/hypixel_studios_2025_has_been_registered_under/)
"The guy" (the head at least, obviously multiple people) who started the original project
after looking at the screenshots I've determined they're the president of Canada
Like, the guy who started the Hypixel minecraft server
I don't know enough to dispute this so I'll add it to my headcanon
A full nations resources being put towards hytale, got it
yup
but nice to see hytale isn't dead after all?
Yeah
Just.. wait until 2026 to be playable
KAR2 has a reservation through the end of the year (at minimum)
that's very optimistic
It is
But supposedly they were close to being ready to launch the beta, before the rewrite. And simon has said he plans to go back to that version of the game
maybe flecs will have its best game for marketing back
We'll see when it gets added back to the projects page for flecs
š
Oh right, Terraria 1.4.5 is planned for between late december and early january
Hytale, you gotta wait until a bit after that, too
they didn't even call it the last update this time
In the most recent state of game there was this line.
Hard to say if that means "Terraria 1.5 plans", or "new game plans"
i find it weird that simon hypixel's name is censored when it's fairly well known
ngl for a second I though it was Simon Lane of the Yogscast, but then I realised his residence is certainly not in canada
like the hytale fandom wiki gives the full name
they've realized they're behind the times as indie devs and should be making a roguelike deckbuilder
so they'll make that
it's censored because it's actually a different simon
it's actually Simon Cowell and it's going to be turned into a Minecrafts Got Talent game
(because fandoms have never in the history of fandom-ness shared personal info they shouldn't)
I was gonna go with Simon from the yogscast but that's better
(not saying that's the case here, just saying that's not an argument in itself :P)
oh you're not wrong yeah
who knows what's on the war thunder wiki
secret government files
No that's the forums not the wiki
War Thunder has been my source of so much humour
btw I've had a bug fix in my mind this entire vacation and I'm kinda looking forward to going back to work on Monday just to get it out of my damn head
the temptation to just boot up my work laptop to just do it
but that's a boundary I refuse to cross
Crumble right now:
Enough to look forward to your vacation ending, though?
ok no
I enjoy being able to do whatever I want more than doing what I am paid to do
u rite
unfortunately watching YouTube while afking in runescape is not a fruitful career path
thank yoooou i actually didn't expect them to let you disable it at all. i checked on mobile the other day and there wasn't an option there, so maybe in a future update
it is if you're making reaction videos
on my phone the new fonts don't work to begin with
i hear those make bonanza dollars
reaction videos aren't really that much of a thing anymore
reaction streaming however
oh boy
multimillionaire
They aren't?
I mean they are if you count clips from reaction streams
Like the only one I watch is definitely "high effort" compared to others (he sometimes has mini-skits during the reaction videos, for example), but I know I've seen others
Hmm. I've definitely seen some non-stream ones, but I'm not really aware of how popular they used to be either, so...
unfortunately I have a conscience and would feel guilty for using other people's videos for my own benefit while taking away from viewership of the original video
i don't even understand windows development anymore. my volume mixer never updates so it just sits there with system sounds, steam, and firefox as the only options forever. sometimes it doesn't recognise new audio devices. sometimes it forgets i have speakers. whenever i reboot it reenables headset services on my bluetooth headphones and decides i should be listening at mobile quality. the option to disable this is hidden in 'printer settings' in the new settings menu.
the other day the start menu decided it wouldn't take keyboard input anymore
the mind boggles
these are fundamental features
Ah. I guess that makes sense.
The one person I watch doesn't include even half of the episode, it's just specific clips with the better reactions being edited from a full reaction recording.
Bluetooth headphones are notoriously terrible on windows
For some reason windows (Even on the re install) refuses to use the right output device, it trues to use the Steam Streaming Microphone as the OUTPUT, like wtf? my monitor works fine ty very much
raywilliamjohnson was the #1 youtuber in like 2009 back when Video Responses were a thing if that gives you a good idea of how popular they were
to be fair using these specific headphones on windows 7 has taken years off my life. years
Like the she-ra series he's doing right now is usually 20-25 minutes per video, and each video covers two episodes rather than one
raywilliamjohnson's =3 was basically a "funny home videos" tv series put onto YouTube instead
See I've never heard of this guy
But I don't think I watched youtube back then
they worked fine for a while on 11 but now especially games like halo and helldivers will specifically reset to use mobile hands-free mode on these headphones. i can't even imagine why
...printer settings?!?!
Also, obligatory
implying you understood windows development in the past
see i've never actually watched raywilliamjohnson and i barely watched youtube back then, but you couldn't avoid seeing him
true, i have never understood or even thought about windows development
idk how many people I've helped debug Bluetooth headphones that stop working the moment they enter any voice chat or any kind because windows decided to introduce the concept of "default communication device" and then sets that to something other than the default audio device
nothing has me convinced that this is an uncaring and godless universe more than windows audio devices have
I am like 60% certain that the first youtube videos I watched were EthosLab, and his oldest video was in 2010. (And I did not start watching him that early)
New quote added by kittycatcasey as #6719 (https://discordapp.com/channels/137344473976799233/1215712021207720006/1434323407096254570)
I watched Coestar before etho
Like, what even is that. I've always seen that and gone "what's the difference"
I was too busy programming hobby game dev nonsense to pay attention to youtube
(Video tutorials weren't much of a thing back then, if I recall)
now that's interesting because i was too busy watching youtube to begin to learn programming
(But I also hate video tutorials, so...)
i've never programmed a thing in my life š
I've been faking it all this entire time
I just watch programming YouTube I don't even own a keyboard
what's the uhhhh
isn't that all programmers
you know the picture of a forum post about someone asking 'ive been at this software job for months now. people think im a really good programmer but ive just been googling questions and copying code from stackoverflow. what will they do when they find out'
If you don't have imposter syndrome, can you even call yourself a programmer
I'm afraid programmers are only 2nd place in impostor syndrome
That too
behind doctors
i mean it's got the magic number and bitshifting bullshit
no
I haven't memorized fast sqrt
So I wasn't sure if it was that, or a different nonsense
are you really a programmer if you can't identify the exact magic number used for the fast inverse square root used in idtech
That's what I meant
maybe you don't have imposter syndrome
maybe it's justified
Also, negative zero
See I can't even remember which algorithm it was
(I should save this for the national "make the most programmers who don't have imposter syndrome develop imposter syndrome" competition)
whats the point of char anyway
char and int are the same size
?????
says who
I mean I think by the standard (at least old versions) they can be
in c are they not
No
oh its not
Char has to be the smallest addressable unit of memory (so, a byte)
the point of char is to stop people from using int i = 'i'
oopsies
Int is usually four bytes
glad i dont write good c code
Meanwhile, the humble reinterpret_cast (or, you know, a regular C cast)
Wait no
booberry I mean C++ not C#
C style casts are basically all the C++ casts except dynamic cast
time to get into a lengthy discussion between the differences between code points, graphemes and characters
i should've known it's valid cpp
why wouldn't it be
(oh no. it's valid c# too. how could i ever forget)
I mean it's probably valid C
Online C++ compiler is a great thing that I had no idea existed
Also, in C# I'm pretty sure char is two bytes not one
Since C# uses UTF-16 I think
Or am I completely misremembering
(C++ uses "handle it yourself, I couldn't care less")
Looks to be the case after a quick google
yes C# chars are 16 bit
(not the AI result, the stack overflow and reddit results)
I had to do some System.Encoding stuff to convert a C# string to bytes recently while doing interop nonsense
So I was pretty sure I was remembering right
this is a fun fact when you're running a password hashing algorithm in multiple different programs and then get different results because 1 is utf8 and the other utf16
this has fucked me up before
Now that's exciting
Hashing messed me up when we moved from .net framework to .net 6, since GetHashCode was no longer deterministic between runs of the program
"what were you using that behavior for even"
squashing string item IDs into an int for DGA
(ie. the butterfly effect that led to 1.6, because Pathos said "that's spooky I'm gonna ask to change item IDs to long instead of int" and then it snowballed)
the first mistake was relying on GetHashCode to be deterministic
I mean, a hash of a string shouldn't change based on when it's being calculated (or any hash), in my mind
If you're just using it for a hash map or something, that's fine
But like
The checksumss to verify you got the right download for things would be useless then
There's a bunch out there! There'sm one that lets you change which compiler it uses on the fly so you can compare differences.
And of course there's similar stuff for other languages, like C#
(Or stuff like regex)
(regex101.com š )
thats good to know! I shall keep that in mind when I cba opening code
regex I have never been able to find a decent one, I've never heard of regex101 so I shall check it out too
regex debugging is always fun
Godbolt is our god
a very familiar page I'm afraid
I knew you would mention that if you saw this conversation
me too
regex101 is really good
godbolt is great though it's true
I can't remember what I was trying to make a regex for, but I know I've used it recently
my latest regex was extremely complicated (contains a -)
For .net I usually use dotnetfiddle.net (missed opportunity to make it a subdomain and do net.fiddle.net š ), or sharplab.io if I need to see IL stuff
Looks very similar to cyberchef, which is also another very useful website
it's especially good for modifying incremental game save data
i feel like 'cyber chef' doesn't give the most accurate first impression as to what's inside
me too
they mightve realised this given it's subtitled 'the cyber swiss army knife'
Cyber what
which raises more questions about the connection between a chef and a swiss army knife
atlas......
ignore that
Oh that's cute
"Introducing... CyberChef! The new AI-powered robot which decides on and creates and cooks recipes for you based on your data! Feed it your browser history, vitals, etc. to cater a diet just for you!
-# We pinky promise not to use that data for anything else."
You say that
But it's LLM powered
Investment money, sure
(I just said AI instead of LLM because marketing wouldn't use LLM for the average person, that's too confusing)
(And they wouldn't use LLM for the kind of person who understands what that means, because it'd scare them off)
if it's LLM based I expect the robot chef to first regale their entire childhood that led up to the dish first
different childhood every time of course
when i was a small microcontroller
a large microcontroller
so literally any recipe found on a blog? no different to usual
exactly, its training data
Please
Did you really buy a CyberChef⢠and expect this?
Unrelated, but wow, I think this achievement is worse than MP-only or play-with-devs achievements
wtf
I have SE V2, SE V2 3 and 4 dedicated server, if only they counted
I have 1, V2, 3, and 4 (why is 2 called V2?).
Apparently. (The humble bundle era was crazy, you know)
just missing SE 5
Don't let the labels fool you, I've never even installed any of them
This is why the "amount of games unplayed" statistic is useless for me
If there was a version that only counted things you purchased yourself on steam directly, that would be much more interesting
and actually embarassing most likely, thanks to the era of buying tons of games each steam sale
I think about 95% of the 550 games I own are unplayed
it may be a problem, but oh well
do you manually recategorise them or does steam have automatic categorisation
"but you don't do that anymore, right???"
Correct.
(/me hides the august sale this year under the couch)
I'm asking the one who loves cooking to bring me food
It's the sort by playtime one
Theres many tools for making categories bc I don't think steam has something like that built in
If I were to manually categorize my steam library, those (and many many others) would go in the "literally do not care" category
Oh good to know
this fancy little button
The problem is that during the times I actually feel like playing games
oh they count when you bought the game as when you played it
Yeah
If they didn't count that, sniper elite wouldn't be listed as 2018 in that screenshot I shared
Speaking of games I never play and humble bundle
wonder how there's no recorded activity for these then
I really need to claim my backlog of humble monthly games
I still haven't gotten my food OR my brownies, bluebs
Are those actual purchased products? Because the no recorded activity stuff for mine is for bundled things, like dedicated servers
I had food AND brownies like an hour or two ago
Thank you, dad's dinner cooking night
(I say, as if I have done any programming or gaming today)
chanec they were free but i think other things were free
I need set discord hours for the weekend, I've spent too much time here
(I mean, I also took a nap earlier I guess)
(I also still haven't started anything for the current anime season still. I'm so behind š )
My categories were done with a mix of manually adding and dynamic collections, ( I was wrong about Steam not having categories)
(took a while to install a ss program, that's why it's not with the rest of the convo)
"I have my games categorized!"
(the load-bearing "uncategorized" category, lurking at the bottom)
SS as in screenshot???
Like.... printscreen sort of screenshot?????
we don't talk about that category, it's a wild west down there and it deserves nothing but ignorance
yes... what other things could it mean?...
I'm just baffled because why couldn't you just use printscreen
That's not something you have to install
Oh printscreen has no funtionalilty on my computer, I have to install something then bind that key to it
(I mean I use sharex, but nowadays you can crop with printscreen directly on windows without an MSpaint intermediary)
Is this something I'm not linux-pilled enough to understand
I'm not on windows anymore, I gave it up XD
Why would any modern OS not have printscreen built in
(in before "bold of you to call <insert linux distro> modern")
specifically arch pilled, pretty sure most distros are bundled with a program to do that, even Desktop environments like KDE are bundled with one, but I just switched over to hyprland and I'm still configuring it
Oh, okay, so you brought that upon yourself
(I did use KDE but desided to give a window manager a try instead of a desktop environment)
Oh ye I totally brought it upon myself, I didn't realise it was something I used often XD
(I don't know what the difference is)
even niri has a built in screenshot utility fwiw and hyprland has hyprshot it's just not installed by default
Desktop Envrionment is like windows, windows you can drag around and resize, a Window manager causes windows to tile nicely together, predominantly for keyboard navigation over mouse, that is a very oversimplified explanation
It was hyprshot I just installed, a lot of stuff isn't preinstalled with hyprland which is the main reason I got it, I dislike bloat quite a lot
what you're describing is a floating window manager vs a tiling window manager
That is a much better explanation, thank you, both can technically desktop environments good point
a desktop environment is just a collection of a bunch of different packages and tools intended to fulfill every regular person's use without needing to install or set up anything extra
the differences between tiling and floating window managers are still very new to me, but I'm liking the tiling one so far
Okay this is what I was thinking and why Atlas confused me
sorry for the confusion XD
there are desktop environments with built in tiling modes, primarily cosmic
I definitely am interested in tiling window managers, but like, I like floating too much.
If I could use a tiled for one monitor and floating for the rest, I might have tried it
cosmic allows you to configure whether it's floating or tiling per workspace
Floating is mainly nice because I canāt quite place cheat a little by staggering windows diagonally for easy access to a bunch at once
hyprland does also support floating windows, but theres no minimising without an extra package which is a tad bit of a shame to me
why would you minimize in a tiling window manager
Is cosmic a rare windows one, or another Linux one
Atlas said hyprland supports floating but not minimizing
cosmic is Linux yes. It's owned by System76, the Linux laptop/pc retailer
Well, feel free to give me Linux window manager recommendations for when I get that framework laptop soon ish
Iāll be trying linux for each weekday
Because I have 20 different programs open at once that open their own window, I'm just getting used to the workspace features instead
I'm a niri fanboy
(Spcificslly contract work, not my casual usage on my desktop)
There is a windows one the LeFauxMatt uses but I don't remember the name
fwiw if you're completely new to Linux desktop you'd be going through some incredibly rough few hours or days trying to jump straight into window managers
Komorbi is the name of the windows one, just found it
KDE is the desktop environment the steam deck ships with
Well then I can wait a week or two to try it
Oh for certain, I've spent like a month on linux (with the odd experience from the steamdeck, the reason for installing KDE on my desktop too) which was enough time to get used to linux in an environment I was familiar with
Iām not completely unfamiliar with Linux, but most of it is terminal stuff and not desktop usage
yeah unfortunately that's quite different
having to set up your own notification daemon and stuff would just be extra shit to have to figure out
I mean Linux uses normal keybindings for the clipboard and stuff usually, right?
So not as bad as using a Mac š
Arch Linux is good
ctrl c and ctrl v yes...
Smh some of us have to make brownies if we want brownies
Smh
screenshots would be whatever you have configured or the environment decides to use
Kinda, It confuses me that so many terminals use ctrl + shift + c or v instead of just ctrl + c or v, but desktop applications still use regular ctrl + c or v
cause ctrl c in a terminal just terminates the current process
I mean to be fair these were low sugar brownies. š
i'm glad the off-topic topic is now desktops šāāļø behold my up-and-coming expensive purchase of the year
https://desky.com.au/products/desky-dual-softwood-sit-stand-desk?variant=39979567939740
(They werent made specifically for me)
a beautiful desktop
Oh and on KDE for sure middle click is also paste, which is annoying to find out if you use multicursor on vscode a lot like me
That looks a lot like the desk my parents are letting me use in my room
middle click as paste is standard on Linux for funky legacy reasons
Of course I never use standing mode
Needs more dark wood, everything needs more dark wood, dark wood is the best wood, love a good walnut
there's some settings that I've forgotten the name of to disable paste behavior or middle click
I've been tempted to get a standing desk but I fear all the stuff on mine would be too heavy for one I could afford
Make your own and they dont have to be low sugar
I knew myself well enough to just get a regular desk
right now i'm trapped. trapped by choosing whether to replace my boring 160x80cm daily desk with a large-ish 150x75cm entirely, or to have a modest separate 120x75cm workdesk out in the living room
no
I dont have a standing desk at work anymore so I just switch between kneeling and sitting
the desk I have now is bigger than my old desk and it's amazing, I much prefer it to a seperate desk (even though I do have a seperate one to my left)
I really need to make bread
well the thing is my lower back is about to explode into fragments, so knowing myself is knowing either i stand up or i buy a hardwood tombstone instead
.wolfram 100cm in ft
3.281 feet
not literally, but it may as well be
I also need to get more flour
I would love to be able to do that by my cracking knees say a solid no XD
Have you considered a kneeling desk chair
Or perhaps
Atlas aren't you a literal decade younger than me
I mean couldnāt you just get a good ergonomic setup (chair, monitor height, etc.) instead of suffering via standing
Have you considered doing some deadlifts
I love my desky desk! I have this exact one!
best purchase I've made in a very long time
desky desk
Despite what Atra may say and feel, theyāre not super old either
Quite probably, but I also have the ailments of an 80 year old XD
tabley table
hush crumb
chairy chair
Wait do we actually have to be nice to you Zoe, since youāre a junimo
Still wear the same clothes
I continue to have no idea if atra pretends to be old and is instead only like 30 or is actually old
I'm a faster runner than I was at 16. Stronger too (both in bench and squat)
I may not be a great judge of age, but they donāt appear to be old in person
another glowing review šāāļø it's a big enough purchase that it feels wrong to get a small one for a mini office space, but also i'd rather have it be something lite that i'm more happy to change the height for
I'm only ten years out from retirement
Unless atra has aged greatly since like May or whenever that was
I don't think anyone follows that
wait what
idk you seem like the type to save for an early retirement...
Okay good point crumble
lord knows i've wanted a solid wood desk for so long that it feels silly to keep this garbage ikea mdf desk as my day-to-day desk but here we are
Phew
speaking of chairy chairs. herman miller huh
but with two desks means two expensive chairs
I fear I can never go back to a cheap desk afeter having a solid wood one with actual steel framing
(Ten years from having enough in savings to hit my first retirement number :P)
Iāve heard from a reliable source that Herman miller chairs are pretty good
I've been using an ikea markus for 10 years now it has lost its warranty so I guess it's about time for it to suddenly explode or something
I used a $20 Walmart chair for five years smh
Okay so yeah, what crumble said
i mean this ikea desk does have a steel frame which is good, it's just woefully unfashionable and lacking in aesthetic sense and feng shui
Oh my chair is a herman miller! it is second hand for free from an office though, but it's so so good
a free herman miller...
I haven't the slightest clue what my office chair is but it's not good
I was truly blessed to get it for free, the place I got it from was moving and they had all new office stuff to go into their new space
The last time I intentionally changed chairs, it was because the previous one literally fell apart
(Like, the middle part snapped while I was sitting on it)
Don't worry, the current economic environment will ensure that inflation will make that number completely inappropriate by the time it arrives.
(It was already precarious at that point though, having to balance slightly while sitting on it)
my current chair is pretty good. maybe 500ish australian bushels, quite comfortable, but as it stands i probably want something a little more extremely premium and ergonomic given how much sitting i do
RODULF desk sit/stand, electric/white, 551/8x311/2" - IKEA https://share.google/e0TWnYX27P6XmsVsp
I have the ergonomic chair from the Desky website and it's not half bad for the price
I like how I somehow went out of still not having a good idea of atra's age
it's the only decent mid-range priced one I could find in australia unless I went down the second-hand herman miller route and got lucky
problem is my current chair is a good-enough quality and high-enough price that if i were to upgrade while it's still usable it'd have to be a noticeable upgrade for sure
Somewhere between 12 and 80 for sure XD
I have uh... a desk. It's olive wood idk what brand
Atra is an enigma as always :š
i spotted some secondhand aerons on gumtree recently by absolute chance, but they're still 1000 each
makes sense, at that point it makes sense to hold out for a herman miller or something
oof yeah that's still steep
my plan is to get myself a fancy luxury desk chair when my Ikea Markus does explode
again though, an investment in not having my lower back explode into a fine powder
random office companies will often do big cleanouts of their chair stock all at once for very reasonable prices
They also do that for computers too (usually without hard drives) which is where I also get most of my tech from
Oh and schools, but the school chairs are not the best
Smh, backs these days donāt even make shrapnel when they explode anymore
all my computers growing up were old desktops my dad's office was replacing
mine still are
my dad's retired I'm afraid
my desktop is one my cs department was giving away and my laptop is a laptop my dad's job didn't ask him to give back back in 2016
see my boss has been trying to palm a new laptop onto me for months now. if i could keep the current one for part-time work, or even do a mythical switcheroo
or maybe a couple years later, I think it's FROM 2016
my quiet hope is for work desktops to get back in fashion because I'm tired of them spending 3 gazillion euros for workstation laptops only to have worse computing power than an average pc
I know it's not happening
you will use a surface pro and you will like it
and yet also the opposite of a work desktop
Deadlifts
there was a single computer lab in my cs department that had herman millers (I think sayls?) for every single chair and I'm still confused to this day
deadlifts are a fantastic way to explode your back it's true
monkeys paw curls
The desktops all have 80% of their compute for AI and is unable to use that for anything else.
Also obnoxiously bright cycling RGB you canāt turn off, because even workplaces need vibes
a friend of mine had her lower back explode into a fine powder because of deadlifts. you're not fooling me

I still want brownies
now to buy this lovely desky desk for the low price of so much money
I donāt know enough exercise lingo to know what deadlifts are so Iām gonna assume itās working in a graveyard or mortician or something and carrying corpses places
sayls are "cheap" at as low as £585
wow that's a weird looking chair
at my old job we used to have desktop pcs and then a new CTO moved us all to like... brand new 4000 euro workstation laptops and they were slower than the pcs
we were all quite salty
I did say i was considering picking up work at my gym....
That's pretty similar to the movement of deadlifts so you're pretty much right XD
i don't think you're meant to lift the deceased like the incredible hulk
I'm not sure I would have recognised the aerons so I guess they have that going for them? brand recognition
dead lifts are basically just weird squats smh
Dang, I was waiting for someone to correct me so I could say āIām not falling for that Big Protein Powder propagandaā
Okay well not overhead I should add good point, but the squat motion defo
Iām not falling for that Big Protein Powder propaganda
Wait are we doing Romanian or standard
what
standard
out of interest did you get any of the added components and were they any use š
if I think romanian is what I think it means
Oh are the Romanians lobbying Big Protein Powder? Interesting
What changes are they trying to make happen
smaller protein
I mean tbf the only Romanians I've seen are massive buff dudes so it fits so far XD
oh wait no nvm I forgot what lobbying meant
That seems like the opposite of what Big Protein Powder would be willing to do
desky desks are one of those things that, even though I KNOW I'm wrong, I can't help but look at and go "for that price I could just build that myself from scratch"
Romanian deadlifts you keep your knees straight and hinge from the hips more
Desky desk is not a name I can take seriously
I have their monitor stand, underdesk PC mount and the drawer -- I personally really like all of them
you could, you just have to be a skilled carpenter and electrical engineer
the drawer you do have to drill in yourself but it's very easy
Does that make the corpse easier to carry?
I am a skilled carpenter and an electrical engineer
all very high quality
the drawer would be an attractive proposition if not for $170
and also this would be a 120cm wide desk so that's valuable legroom
(when sitting)
Youāre a carpenter?
Atra is there anything you canāt do
I hate that because it goes against everything I've been taught (not like gym tought, but just general life taught), "lift with your knees not your back"
yeah it's not a very attractive price haha
Besides fix the economy so your stocks donāt make you sad, I guess
remember video game trivia
Anything useful*
i'd also consider their CPU mount (
) but this would be for a laptop workstation rather than my daily desk
it looks real neat having the 'puter move with the desktop though
My pooter moves with my butt
real programming talk: why is šāāļø 'head shaking vertically' and why is there no alias for 'nodding'
Because discord prefers novelty offer practicality
See: āevery feature theyāve added for quite a whileā
well the name seems like the internal wordy unicode name but they just never bothered to give it something more normal
(Also it kinda looks like a face pointing downwards with an anime sweat drop but really small and harder to notice, at least on my phone)
I had no idea it was a face nodding, I also thought it was a sweat on the brow kinda emoji
Smh why arenāt Unicode emojis animated
š < an alternative to this
Printed media whatās that
you fools. you're thinking of š instead of šāāļø

they are completely different emotions
As if there arenāt emoji that arenāt incredibly similar but technically different already
š š
š š
š š¤£
āŗļø š

š being "pensive" is so odd to me but at least i know that it is so i can pull it up easily
but yeah given most unicode emoji have real names like how š is CLOCKWISE RIGHTWARDS AND LEFTWARDS OPEN CIRCLE ARROWS i'd imagine they just never thought 'yeah HEAD SHAKING VERTICALLY seems a little uncomfortable to write'
I use
every 12 seconds
Yeah I have that one memorized even though itās not what Iād think of with that name
I mean I'm an ageless being of course i can do carpentry
My qualm is that this š is called 'expressionless' where as this š is 'neutral face' are they not the same lack of expression
Oh yeah? If youāre ageless, why do you keep saying youāre old.
Checkmate, atraists
all I ask is for my dad to stop using š„µ
That first one more looks like a āseriously?ā, not āexpressionlessā
But I know people interpret emoji differently
My mom uses š very different than I do
if the world as a whole could just take the leap towards adding
to the emoji standard i could be a functional member of society
but no. i have to react to teams messages with sandwiches and thumbs up
(This is my current setup with their stuff - I forgot I have their deskmat, too)
overall all very good if you can justify the price - some sort of computer mount is pretty essential so the cords donāt pull in the standing position if the pc is underneath
That is 'passive agressive "friend" when they're annoyed by normal human behaviour'
I we get a world government, our ID should come with 5 custom emoji slots we can use as we please
I absolutely adore that so so much, so very cosy
is that a fractal case too. very chic
I use it for stuff like āI had a day off so I was going to go to the park but now thereās a hurricane š ā
š this one is sarcastic to me
My mom uses it as sort of a whimsical smile
and the wickerwork folding screen is very nice. actually jealous of the workstation hahah
š© I see for being tired
Ah yes. Japanese(?) fiction and Pharmacology for Paramedics, my favorite combo
š» I like using this one
š© I think of as more for āI ordered pizza and they put anchovies on it but Iām too hungry to wait for a fixed delivery š© ā
(Or š in some cases)
Okay, I take it back, you are old
š« would use this one in that case which is more of a scrunched face
i was just thinking the catface emojis have got to be used exclusively by mums of a certain age
Contrary to what one might think, Stardew does have butts
There are no bathrooms?
I did have to think of an acceptable word because I only had one in my mind
Also the other DGA mod is more likely to be up to date than my DGA mod
š« š¬
Iām pretty sure butts predate bathrooms, historically
Iāve only ever seen it used by my grandmother
Since no one wants to mail me brownies
Smh
Anyways
Right
I can't be a spooky name no more
We donāt know your address so how could we mail you brownies
discord support wants you to avoid sharing your address in public chatrooms even if offered brownies
(Does anybody besides me remember this mod)
Kailey successfully mailed me Canadian geese and she doesnt know my address smh
Hmm
Have you considered that Kailey asked onyx to use their magic cat powers to do it
Screw brownies I've got a coupon for a free mcflurry
Atra tax bills are scary even when accurate, just less so than miscalculated
Oooooo
Tasty
!! just noticed you've also got their monitor arm and a monitor that looks real close to mine. dell s3221qs?
i was worried it'd be too heavy for a normal arm since it's snapped one already
I keep noticing more and more things that are desky branded
yeah I have their monitor arm too and their wobble board stuff + their mic arm
my monitor is the dell S3422DWG -- the stand holds it up very very well, no issues at all over the year or so I've had it
oh wow that's even more premium than mine hahah
this one's 4k 32" ips but only 16:9 60hz
reminds me i'll need another big screen for the little office space
actually do you use the wobbleboard at all. they've got a bunch of funky footrests and standing stages
i can't even imagine the benefit to half of these
I use the wobbleboard every time I put the desk up, I find it really helps with ankle fatigue and to keep the blood pumping (and gives me something to do with my feet if I'm in a meeting or something)
but I have tile floors so without it they're a lot more harsh than carpet for example
I wouldn't say any of their footrest stuff is particularly necessary, but I find them nice to have. I got mine during one of their big sales so the price wasn't super bad
ah hmmmm
i've never noticed ankle fatigue actually, but i do have carpet throughout (i hate it)
although im not usually just standing around on carpet with a sitting desk
is yours the standing mat or the balance board?
the balance board
you'd probably be totally fine on carpet without anything else
there are also cheaper alternatives on the market for that stuff that'd do the same thing if you wanted one later on
I am having such a hard time trying to find a volume mixer that has separate volume control per application (that preferably can also be added to waybar), do this just not exist for hyprland? the best I can get is the KDE plasma system settings which honestly isn't Idea at all
(oooo desky does desktop wood samples. and the cost goes towards your desk purchase....)
(i promise i'm not a marketing bot i just yearn for the desks)
(I thought the only shilling we allowed in here was for framework laptops)
I was shilling my framework 16 earlier in the week at work
(As far as commercial things go, anyways. Unfortunately the rustacean aspect seems to be here to stay š )
rust mentioned
Canāt seem to go a week without that crab makings it way into the conversation somewhere
partially on-topic but the correct people are here, but doing my first runtime test of .net9 smapi and more stuff exploded than last time I did this with .net7, and part of the uplift was also bumping harmony, and some wild behaviour now exists
looks like if you harmony patch a generic method, it mutates the type arguments now?, so profiler patching the GameContentManager.LoadExact with Texture2D as a placeholder argument is now making some/all content pipeline operations a texture load when it wasn't meant to. After turning off those profiler patches it seemed to be fine
Otherwise it mostly just worked, I also fixed the audio issue, so the only issues I experienced was the Profiler generic patches, Better Friendship shipping a system .NET 6 DLL which blew up as a .NET 9 one was already loaded, and one BETAs transpiler errored out https://smapi.io/log/90bbdfc61fa4471f98be856b41770664
Log Info: SMAPI 4.3.2 with SDV 1.6.15 build 24356 on Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, with 195 C# mods and 301 content packs.
Suggested fixes: One or more mods are out of date, consider updating them
var matcher = new CodeMatcher(code, il).End();
matcher.SetOpcodeAndAdvance(OpCodes.Ldarg_1);
matcher.Insert(new CodeInstruction(OpCodes.Ldarg_0), [more instructions here]);
how can this even error
unless Harmony is no longer treating the instructions as a list that can be resized or something... ?
its the only harmony patch that errored out and plenty of other patches insert extra instructions
i imagine it has something to do with me going straight to the end
they added a new IsInvalid check to the Insert function, where a CodeMatcher's current position is invalid if it is less than 0 or greater than or equal to the current length of the instructions
that method of determining validity isnt new, but it being applied to Insert (as well as some various others) is
so you just cant add directly onto the end of an instruction list anymore, i guess
When my computer stops hating itself I'll see if I can breakpoint in and get extra info
im pretty sure thats what it is, since the exception thrown lines up, from this commit in their april release
poor SSD
1.2mbs, blazing fast
How speedy, fitting for the person who made speedy solutions
looks like you should make a windows drive read/write optimiser
its the disk being on fire and thermal throttling, but rather than fixing it I'm going to do a pc rebuild instead but keep procrastinating on it
guess it wants to more ensure correctness and not have people overriding the ret, inserting after where the ret originally was, and putting a ret back in again
but thats exactly what i wanna doooo
(out of pure inertial laziness of not wanting to change what currently works anyway, since i know functionally its exactly the same if i just add my stuff before the ret and dont overwrite it)
your way moves all the labels that are on the ret to be on your ldarg1
if someones jumping to the ret i dont want them to skip my stuff
is there a reason why you even did it as a transpiler and not a postfix
needed the local
it's got the list of drops that were chosen that I use in the trigger
figured out how to change the font on my site
oh no
too much power
(I love it)
i didn't address this at the time, but sitting in a more ergonomic arrangement is just reducing the negative effects of sitting down all day. moving from sitting to standing is supposed to be far better for your posture, flexibility, circulation, and managing the resulting strain and tension
so i read and hear anyway
yesterday standing up made my heart rate reach 135 and my blood pressure reach 160/100
I will stick to sitting--
I hear the data is mixed
All the damn data is mixed
Who is mixing the data

(Fwiw I mostly see the following
- Standing doesnt matter work out instead
- Working out doesn't matter stand instead
- It's all irrelevant you'll just die eventually)
I dont have a standing desk at woek but I do kneel at my desk
I have a standing/sitting desk but I only sit
When I pass a certain threshold of āstanding in one place timeā my feet hurt like blazes and I just donāt want that in my life
The threshold is on the order of 1 hr
I do have 3 different kinds of chair so I bounce around between them and that really helps with back pain
(The normal office chair, the comfy chair I added, and the āconversing with studentsā chairs)
I also got one of the foot rocky things but Iām skeptical
It does rock back and forth I just donāt know if that actually helps me feet
that's why you then sit down š and stand again when you feel
Foot strength is something I need to train again after 1 year no running and I'm sad
I havenāt run for 0 minutes in the last year but I havenāt ever ran for more than 30 minutes in a row in the last year
And usually itās under 5 and because Iām late to something on the other side of campus
It's not really a thing tbh until the 1hr mark but at some point even my feet get tired
Meanwhile, me, with my foot hurting the moment I step out bed
(It gets a bit better after Iām up for a bit, to be fair)
for me walking and running actually hurts my feet waaaaay less than standing
i do walk around at work bc i have to go from office to classroom to lab etc, and that doens't hurt my feet
Thereās a reason I prefer pacing rather than standing.
But of course walking around just redirects it to my lungs instead.
no pain no gain? xD
Itās like Iām incredibly out of shape or something!
you could take small walks
isn't now a good time of year for weather?
i keep thinking i should take walks as a break at work but then i don't
Ha, youāre hilarious
Weather is nice out lately though
Itās currently 66 F
