Anyways.
"Hey if you want your bug fixed earlier pay up" is an old open source technique
(Hoppers would be great for early Stardew automation, for not needing to unlock qi gems š )
And tbh not one I'm against
Yeah. I suspect there will be more details once it comes out, but going ahead and charging before they are details is bizarre
It's scummy tbh
Yeah, is it gonna be a package on top of the service (which is fine)
Especially if they are working only off public apis anyone can
This is one thing
"Pay up to feed me but you don't know what you're paying for yet" is shite
(Feels unlikely)
Then we fall into the game with launch DLC situation, though. If charging for extras wasn't normalised, would this content have just been included in the base or not?
If they are gonna kneecap the original (ie, enjoy this intentional lag unless you pay us) that would be scummy
I'm the most capitalism in this channel because imo if the base game is complete on launch I don't hate dlc
- 16.6~ frame time cap unlock with premium!
Regular reminder that programming (and technology in general) is basically magic
"Will I buy it?" "No, I don't usually buy games."
Every now and then someone jokes about electrons not being able to go around corners too fast lol
FOSS is free as in freedom, not free as in beer
I could charge you $100 for a build of the Linux kernel!
iirc RHEL aint cheap
I don't think I want to know what those licenses actually cost.
I also fly frontier
I know but it's also used in the context of beer atp
Ie - I will take the Frontier discount knowing they njckle and dime for everything
What. Is that a thing?
Nottttt really but kinda?
Is it to do with like... too tight of a bend screwing with the "grain" of the metal or something?
I mean I guess it sorta makes sense in a world that doesnāt have discrete frames it runs on like a video game (gotta have some velocity analogue), but still is not something I would have expected
In electrical engineering, impedance matching is the practice of designing or adjusting the input impedance or output impedance of an electrical device for a desired value. Often, the desired value is selected to maximize power transfer or minimize signal reflection. For example, impedance matching typically is used to improve power transfer fr...
(Also, I am admittedly scrambled rn so take me with a pinch of salt)
No, your model of capacitance and inductance assume a flat infinite strip
there is the planke time and planke distance or whatever iirc, so in a way there are discrete frames
A turn changes those numbers
Science Wikipedia scares me
My main complaint with hyprland premium is that you're charging for features that haven't even been implemented yet, so no one knows what they are
So if you turn too sharp, the electrons see a change in capacitance
Which in impedance marched world is a discontinuity in the line
And why i super respect good pcb talent
I couldn't be bothered looking it up and adding an extra e was close enough to ensure it wasn't interepreted as plank
They want the true fans
I donāt know enough about the latter, but I feel like with distance it still wouldnāt be a āgridā since distances usually go in any direction, not just cardinal ones
Ie, how many youtubers have patrons
Anyways, time to go have a simulation theory existential crisis /s
Is this why pcbs arenāt just cardinal directions but often have those slants? Or is that just for less distance traveled
Like, the joke is funny, but technically it's the frequency of the signal the electrons are traveling at the same (mostly) speed lol
The slants are due to how fr4 works
ok yeah it was planck length is the OG one about shortest distance, and planck time is derived from speed of light travelling a planck length in a vaccum
Fr4 is fiber glass and has fibers
I love knowing just enough science to make funny but inaccurate jokes about it
And you can feel the capacitance of those fibers
So you go a 14 degree angle to reduce that effect
Or pay Panasonic lol
Ah, so: 1. No grid 2. Planck time isnāt intrinsic but just derived, so if we fine a way to break Planck distance or the speed of light itāll be meaningless
Considering how much science changes I wouldnāt be schooled to find out we figure out how to do one or both of those one day. assuming the world doesnāt end first but you know
I mean we know how to change the speed of light and do it all the time by manipulating the medium its in, just not in a vaccum
experimental physics and by extension engineering has to catch up to the madness that theoretical physics have been talking about
+you can only slow it down not speed it up with the medium method right?
Like, I mean āsurpassing the universal speed limitā breakage.
Iām not saying I necessarily expect it happen, just saying I wouldnāt be shocked if it did one day
Nothing new there. Even when it does catch up, that just gives theoretical physics more data to speed back ahead with š
The speed of light in vacuum being a constant is trippy
Getting hungry, guess I shouldn't pretend I'll go back to sleep anymore
iirc its currently an unsolved question as to whether the speed of light in a vaccum is even a single number, we only know the speed of light going back and forth / 2 is c
there isn't a known experiment to actually measure speed of light in a singular direction
any clock being used to transfer information uses the same speed of light calculation
I guess that doesnāt help for if itās the same in different parts of the universe though. Like, what if itās slightly different in andromeda or something (even accounting for relativity).
Might be impossible from a theoretical standpoint, but the fun point about theoretical stuff is it sometimes breaks down with new unaccounted circumstances
there's a veritasium video about how the single way speed of light can't be measured I think
The MichelsonāMorley experiment was an attempt to measure the motion of the Earth relative to the luminiferous aether, a supposed medium permeating space that was thought to be the carrier of light waves. The experiment was performed between April and July 1887 by American physicists Albert A. Michelson and Edward W. Morley at what is now Cas...
yup
Do they account for those of us who arenāt science/math nerds when explaining
one of the last I watched before giving up on his channel
The speed of light being constant is like
Why give up? Quality deterioration?
Okay I have to watch this because I thought the canonical experiment for this was the one I linked above
veritasium has made its fair share of not so well regarded science videos I believe
more and more clickbait and exgaggerations causing more and more subject matter experts having to do rebuttals
We cannot send information faster than the speed of light isn't the same as we haven't measured the speed of light in multiple directions
I see his point but no
to me the video always felt like it hinges on a technicality
I've soured to veritasium over the years a bit
Something something die as a hero or live long enough to become a villain
Hmm, should bonemeal act as fertilizer or should it advance crop stages in SDVā¦
Iām leaning towards the latter, who says this has to be fully balanced. And then SDV fertilizer can act as special tilled soil tiles in Minecraft
Also, the plan is to design it in a generic way so that people can add other game bridges too, even at the same time.
I probably wouldnāt do it (though Terraria could be interestingā¦), but in theory someone could do Stardew<->skyrim for example (or even add Skyrim in addition to Stardew+mc in a single instance)
advancing crop stages I think would work, but might need to pad out the crop stages to match minecraft
the generic bridge is getting adjacent to the archipelago project
Google has an AI now
I would hope so, considering GPT was originally their paper
at least its no longer suggesting glue or whatever it was as a pizza topping or something
found the reference I was thinking of
Isn't archipelaggo just focused on unlocking things for connected games? This lets you actually use them and bring them to/from the other worlds (and not just sending remotely but travel there yourself)
(I was testing gpt yesterday to see what it would tell me wrt retirement over ehat the r/bogleheads say)
I remember when it was revealed that those were (sort of sadly, because it's hilarious) fake.
Ie, bogleheads got me to consider the HSA as the best US retirement savings vehicle
I mean, minecraft wheat only has 8 stages which isn't that much longer than the amount of days shorter-growing stardew crops take (and is much shorter than the longer ones)
So far gpt/Google have only given generic advice
When using the term "the speed of light" it is sometimes necessary to make the distinction between its one-way speed and its two-way speed. The "one-way" speed of light, from a source to a detector, cannot be measured independently of a convention as to how to synchronize the clocks at the source and the detector. What can however be experimenta...
my memory was thinking of trees, but looks like I misremembered how many stages trees had, and bonemeal does >1 stage anyway for wheat
Minecraft has farming?
Today I leanrd
It's very barebones
oh god are we talking about veritasium
I mean stardew isn't super advanced either I suppose
ur late
No I'm trying to get financial advice from chatgpt and gemini
I'll take some but not full credit for it coming up
that guy makes up so much shit it's genuinely embarassing atp š personally my tipping point was calling Godel's incompleteness paradox a "hole at the bottom of maths"
does gemini not understand the goal, or...?
<insert the polygon BDG "when can mario retire" youtube video>
the one that fully make me block him iirc was the one arguing that electricity doesn't flow in wires
(I told it that I expected to live longer than average)
oh that's another excellent one. He also made fluid dynamics people very angry at some point iirc. And then there's literally anything he's ever said about psychology
to be fair psychology did that to themselves with the replication crisis
you can say anything about psychology
my favourite part is when experts call him on it and he leaves a comment on their video saying that they both have evidence and they can agree to disagree or something š no, you just made your one up, it doesn't work that way
for the electricity magnetic field thing one I think he made a follow-up in response
he's done that enough times apparently that one of the times I've seen him do it some of his own fans called him on it in the replies
it doesn't help that around the time of those videos he did the video on "clicckbait is unreasonably effective" rationalising why he does it
"it makes me money" yeah we know, you're still scummy
Again. He's not wrong about the synchronization problem
yeah
Where he is wrong is that we can measure the differential between two light beams traveling at right angles to each other
that video isn't wrong but now the salt about the guy is coming out
the speed of light video is a year older than the clickbait and electricity videos
my issue is more that if these complete lies have been found by experts / I can spot lies in the fields I know about, I can no longer trust anything he says about fields I don't know about
he's supposed to be a STEM communicator but I can't trust anything he tells me unless I already know if it's true
I miss physics girl š¦
barring maybe scishow/crash course idk
speaking of though, it looks like physics girl is doing better!
There's a meme about this sort of thing I'm pretty sure, but I don't recall enough about it to find it
better relatively speaking
I think there's a good chance she doesn't ever come back to youtube but it's good to hear that she's improving relative to what she was dealing with before
100%
she will liekly always have a certain restraint, as overexcerting will cause another regression
I forgot about kurzgesagt
they're huge
Me/cfs is terrifying
scishow/crashcourse I feel are less... vulnerable to the pressures of making shit up for money due to the funding model
it's interesting that that surgery seems to have had a positive effect though, hopefully more research will lead to us actually understanding me/cfs a bit better soon
they're funded mostly through donations yeah
So far I like practical engineering
but not like... the corporate interest variety
I have multiple crashcourse coins in my room because I find the idea of physical coins hilarious in the age of crypto
I've never actually watched veritasium, I think I saw a clickbait thumbnail/title about IT or CompSci, and instantly labeled the channel as slop
I'm also a fan of mentor pilot
my #1 science channel will always be xkcd's what if
even though half the videos end in the destruction of earth or life on it
...hmm, how to handle enchanting (specifically, the xp/levels parts)
xkcd whatif is an extension of minute physics / minute earth, but using xkcd as the script
Isn't that what makes them fun
I've watched a couple minute physics a while ago, I don't remember them getting as silly as what if

(Clearly, the solution is to add minecraft levels to SDV. The main question is should I make MC enchantments accessible through SDV enchanting, or only through enchanting table (and vice versa))
(Maybe you could wait for a MC enchant rebalance)

(Is that happening?)
tbh I don't think balance is a top priority, and I think the gameplay loop would be more interesting if it was asymmetric
Yeah, I don't care about balance, but if they change the mechanics it's a different story (since new implementation)
And yeah, I'm not planning on adding any way to obtain game A's items from game B. You have to bring them over
(the villager rebalance had a librarian part to make them less powerful, but people didn't like it, so it is possible that the whole enchanting system will be rebalanced to just get rid of the imbalance between villagers and enchanting table)
Like, no new SDV worldgen
tbh I love villager trading halls
(I feel like banking on them maybe changing things one day when they haven't even mentioned wanting to do that isn't a great idea. š +MS era MC seems to avoid changing fundamental stuff, and I feel like enchanting might fall under that)
yeah ofc
it does make the concept of diamonds semi pointless, but much better than enchantment being gacha like it used to be, particularly with the anvil/use limit on items making things more expensive
(I just want an enchant rework, so I hope it happens at some point)
I liked the old Enchanting Plus mod, so I installed this on my modpack-I'm-totally-going-to-play: https://modrinth.com/mod/enchanting-infuser
It even has apotheosis support
minecraft was already semi solving the enchantment problem by having all the new interesting enchantments be exclusive to exploration anyway
Like stardew forge?
which I kinda hate because of reasons previously mentioned in my infinite world gen rant, and a fixed world size mod would just make it non-renewable

ABSTRACT
When programming thes...
as someone who likes to make farms, I don't like non-renewable stuff. The complexity of the renewability does not matter, as long as it is possible.
Stardew forge is kinda the anvil and enchanting table in one.
anvil functionality is like how the combined ring and transmog works, enchanting table is how the forge does enchantments normally
minecraft anvil is about combining/applying effects, mainly enchanted books but also nametags, while enchantment table puts a random enchantment on the thing
thinking about all the decorative stuff that is exclusive to newest structure, which makes it obnoxious as fuck to farm
Modern cpu scary
Wait... the compiler explorer domain is literally just the guy's last name?????
Yesssss
Wow, that's a hell of a name.
Name of a guy destined to make good code
De Gaulle type shit
For me the infinite world things main flaw is just the randomness and the lack of any good rules to find what you want.
Mods semi solve it, but not fully.
and then there is the culture of just new updates = do new save or explore ungenerated chunks
almost everything is renewable in modern minecraft anyway
I don't want to walk thousands of blocks to maybe find structures (or biomes, with how many there are in modded minecraft a lot of the time) š
If I know it's there it's slightly better (like nature compass or structure compass)
But I'd prefer that in a fixed size world (even a large one) rather than infinite world
I'm willing to walk the thousands of blocks, and have done it many times, but whats annoying is going in a straight line is just as efficient as any other strategy, particularly for day1
I know at one point they tried having biomes respect temperature/climate or whatever, but never felt like I could actually trust that to find the biome I want
Oh?
how about you fix my C#-to-Java thing for me instead
granted I'm mainly a nostalgic fool that just wants my old fashioned extreme hills and have my base be a hollowed out mountain
I think that might still be a thing to some extent, I don't ever see savanna next to taiga
New fun problem this morning: While using the VSCode integrated terminal, none of my ssh keys are seen on my Windows work PC. If I open an external terminal app though, they work fine
Old extreme hills were great š
And so were pre-biome seeds. Shoutout to gargamel and Glacier (yes I had to look them up)
Yeah, imagine a mod that keeps track of your installed mods. Then every time you install a new mod, it gives you a "reload" so to speak of an item that teleports you in the direction you're facing to the first area that has only un-generated chunks ahead of you.
Less abusable by keeping track of your mod loadout as the "currency". Probably also freely doable with a config?
I had an adjacent problem to that today, but it was due to powershell not being particularly good at refreshing environment, and with the work device deciding to heavily lock down powershell, the standard tools to force it to refresh doesn't work, and vscodes integrated terminals dont refresh well
Hmm. Not for me since I wouldn't add a world gen mod mid playthrough usually, but interesting
I do that far too often.
And hey, if you get your C# wizardry working, I can use it! Because me being able to fix it is funny.
I might if I played a single world for any substantial period of time
I'll add you to the list of "people to notify when it's working" š (LeFauxMatt also mentioned being interested)
I treated minecraft mod lists as mostly immutable and was very careful what was allowed to change, as worldgen at least used to be very fragile and just sneezing would cause 30m walls where the newly generated chunks will be
Mine tend to be "oh, I forgot Mekanism" or "oh, I forgoet Apotheosis!"
This is still the case I'm pretty sure š
I remember pre-biomes it could sometimes happen without seed or mod changes for some bizarre reason. My brothers and I had a world where we found an area like that.
...that might've been our first multiplayer world? (At least one we actually played, when we first tried MP is wasn't very functional)
...does that usually happen not within the first couple days of a playthrough but much later on?
Yeah, worldgen stability was terrible for the longest time.
To be fair I haven't made my own modpack in ages, so that's part of the reason
modern minecraft modpacks are an art of their own, and very much greater than the sum of the parts
Well, the good ones are
(I hear the lunapixel ones are really bad about throwing mods together with minimal changes and calling it a day)
both skyrim and minecraft I don't dare try to assemble my modlists anymore
Skyrim requires a phd to actually get all the mods to actually work
Minecraft requires a bachelors degree, but they put a bunch of bespoke stuff in that no individual mod had like the quests and stuff
Last time I did hand made MC packs it was bachelor level
But of course didn't include all the nice stuff from good packs like quests and integrated recipes and what not
But yeah skyrim?
I refuse to figure out xedit and all that stuff
Admittedly the times I have done it it's been fine without that
But like I didn't install crazy amounts like a lot of premade modpacks
one of the reasons I like stardew, its so much more plug n play.
the only real question is SVE or no SVE, and whether multiplayer compat is needed or not, and maybe if you want to do file manipulation for portraiture or not
Yeah. But at the same time that's largely because we don't really have any big game changing mods, just expansions.
(One could argue that that's because of the nature of the base gameloop being more defined/structured and such, though)
Like, we don't have any completely unique experiences like skyblock maps/packs
(Barring a few of my WIPs š )
I guess there's the roguelike mod (the existing one that's just combat)
I can't think of anything else though
I think it is related to gameloop yeah
There's some smaller things like start on ginger island
Ah, I forgot about that one. Yeah I'll count that one
I suppose nothing really stops someone from making an expansion with a start in the expansion option
I mean I think a couple expansions have talked about that sort of option before
Heck maybe we should just make one now for all the expansions that give farmland lol
Like SVE and castle village
It's like that skyrim mod alt starts
And I might be misremembering but I thought I heard the idea tossed around in ES at one point
Yeah, which is interesting, but I still wouldn't call transformative like modded MC is compared to vanilla
Archipelago is fairly different but mostly cus it's tied to whole other system
Especially with the advent of quest packs, modded MC has more structured content than vanilla
(different in that pathos gotta test it individually for mod compat lol)
wow speak of the devil
I'm like 99% sure the answer is 4+4, but yk
That is an incredibly clickbait title+thumbnail combo
maybe I'm just a genius
wow maybe you're right
Go claim your million dollars!
Before I do from stealing your answer
Obviously I couldn't have figured out such a thing myself
I just asked chatgpt what 4 + 4 is and it did say 8
well if chatgpt says it, it must be true!
(MC fishing rod in SDV is gonna be great for people who hate SDV fishing)
But how many 'r's are in strawberry
7
Oh, fun fact. Since I'm only allowing building to two blocks tall in SDV I don't have to care about nether portals š
it got so close
Well, it gets a D I guess
Which isn't a passing grade
(Speaking of which, why in the world do letter grades skip E????????????????????????)
idk we just do numbers where I live
we don't have some abstraction step where your grade is turned into something else
in the UK E is a possible grade
or was when we used letter grades
we've moved to numbers now
Slate agrees
I still searching for a good source
Because this seems dumb
That feels like a terrible reason. What about F=Fantastic?
Unless it's a holdover from a previous grading system or something
I just did another readthrough hpmor and have their silly grading in mind where the second highest grade is Exceeds Expectations, and highest grade is Outstanding
is your source my message a few above yours
the A stands for Axecellent
It's HP, it making sense is not expected to begin with
"Amazing" was right there
no
I thought A was for awsome
aweful
If we're gonna use A-F (minus E), we might as well use S (and SS and SSS)
Like, over 100 is A+ for some reason????
Completely breaks the pattern, 0/10
over 100 makes no sense to me
Yeah, it really doesn't, but has to do with extra credit questions.
Ideally we'd just cap it at 100 still, but for some reason we get GPA over 4.0 in high school instead
i had never heard of bonus points being a thing till university
Wait, GPA over 4.0 is for AP classes I think?
thankfully I never had to worry about such high numbers for my grades
I still have no idea what a gpa even is and why
Grade point average
Dutch student culture is quite strongly tied to "you should only just barely manage to pass or you did too much"
It's another compressed version of grades (and averages)
Basically an average of how you did in all your classes but harder ones go for more points
It's like doing a gymnastics routine
(till college where this goes out the window)
I just wanna be hard-core šµ
Never understood the point of letter grades anyways. Why not just use percentages as-is?
the entire gpa thing is confusing
idk
Maybe it's a holdover from an era before point-counting where they'd be assigned by Vibes
GPA isn't a thing here though my uni had a funky conversion chart
Hack Punt Tool - Original Cast Recording

your tests aren't standardised anyway, what's stopping your teacher from just making the test really easy
and then you get a high gpa for college applications
Schools get reputations for what their gpas actually mean
Actually.
You don't want to be in the easy 4.0 school it discounts you
God
every school? there's over 6000 primary/secondary schools just in the UK
I used to play that game
Hey, is the minecraft wiki gaslighting me? I thought nether wart grew slower in the overworld but there's no mention of it. (Or at least used to, but it's not mentioned in version history either)
arbitrarily fail half the students so the school is worth something
It was insane
...wait it's probably this
Ah yeah
our high schools similarly get judged by whether their school grades are close to their national exam grades
Hack Punt Tool - Original Cast Recording

Clearly we're going back to the era, if vibe coding is any indication
here almost all of your tests are standardised and marked externally
I was gonna say I remember that being a thing before bc it was such a pain in the ass
Alexa program my million dollar website idea
standardised as in handled by one of several exam boards (there are three really big ones and a few smaller ones)
There are some standardized tests! <FCAT flashbacks (these were the FL-specific ones)>
And the SAT, though they keep changing the scoring system
your entire grade for everything is based on standardised tests here
SAT and ACT
I don't know how the ACT and such works but presumably those are standardized too
There's also act/sat/clep
which was nice because some of my teachers were completely useless but I could just refer to the syllabus and textbooks for their subjects
Those are all standardized
I'm so lost here
Just the normal topic rollercoaster progression of #programmers-off-topic , nothing to see here
(And me interjecting minecraft nonsense periodically)
I appreciate the random minecraft nonsense
here you do GCSEs at age 16 for all the core subjects plus a few optional ones (standardised) and A Levels (or an equivalent, standardised either way) at age 18 for just like 3-4 subjects entirely of your choosing, and literally no grade outside of this matters
I just love hack punt tool
I dunno if that's better, though. It doesn't necessarily test all of your knowledge or abilities, just your ability to take tests and memorize information
oh I'm not saying it is
it completely punishes people who are bad at testing
I just see the reason why, if they were already going based on tests, they chose to standardise them
it also meant that accommodations were standardised too, so for example I got unlimited rest breaks for "anxiety" (which turned out to be undiagnosed adhd lmao) and it was for every test regardless of any teacher's opinion
Here basically everything is subjective
and the one time a teacher was given the ability to do something on his own (the pass/fail practical component of my physics A level, theoretically it's "verified" by the exam board every few years but he knew that year they weren't checking lmao) he literally just passed everyone
My next modding adventure might be Deltarune, I want to gaslight children so badly...
(TIL allays can be duplicated using an amethyst shard while they are dancing around a jukebox)
Are the minecraft fun facts on a timer?

They're on a "casey is reading through every item and such on the wiki for nefarious bridge mod purposes" timer
Ah the perfect interval of time between them then
Since I watched 2 full blind playthroughs in a row, I'm getting a ton of theory recomedation, and it would be very funny to me to just put misinformation in the brainrot machine
It's really interesting seeing things I hadn't seen before. Like, I'd never seen the not-grown version of the ancient plants from the sniffer
Wdym the not-grown version
wow, the somewhat rare MC mechanic I never interacted with
Pitcher pods and torchflower seeds
I've seen the grown versions before
But having hardly played since sniffers were introduced, and even when playing never seeing them much less using them, I never saw the seed version
Ah so instead of "seeds" you just went with "not-grown versions"
Well a pitcher pod arguably isn't a seed
Arguably
(Unrelated but why does java not have a bunch of the cool cauldron features like dying and potions+tipping-arrows-with-them)
I've been awake for 32 hours i'm easily confused rn
I've been awake for like 3 hours. I'm always easily confused
Valid
...what
which is the what part
Yeah, that
oh
hey everybody, what's a good abstract icon representing generic weakness that can fit in about 8x8 pixels?
I'm reaching the point of "you know maybe implementing every minecraft thing in SDV is a lot of work" and I might have reached 10% of the items (and haven't looked at blocks/entities/enchantments/effects/etc. yet)
You could make a mini version of the MC weakness buff icon I guess
hmm
is it specifically fighting weakness?
It makes your attacks do less damage
I mean, ichor's use case
...I did not look at who said that message...
Makes attacking consume stamina. /j
Makes you lay down every 4 steps
Dying is a thing in java edition though?
Not using cauldrons
You can remove dye
Really? I thought it was
I was thinking of a broken bone in case it's about low dmg resistance
Maybe that's a quark feature lol
Yeah probably
yes. overall weakness in battle
I haven't played Real Vanilla Minecraft in like 5 years
iirc theres also some neat things in the weird education edition that could have been backported but didn't
am stuck in a loop of refreshing youtube and alt-tabing here
don't wanna open VSCode, don't wanna open Steam, don't wanna go to bed...
Yeah š
And let's not get started on all the fun april fools stuff (like lashing potatos)
the minecraft 2.0 one and the single inventory slot one was interesting
Personally I miss the etho slabs
The concept of Java changed three times in my head in this sentence
Etho is the one MC youtuber I consistently watch (and have for ages, since even before SDV came out)
Putting poison arrows in my coffee
I started watching ethoslab back when chests were still a full block
How about coffee arrows - basically coffee syringe injections that you shoot at people with a bow
I'm not sure exactly when I did, just know it's been a loooong time
I do vaguely remember some of the old ethos videos, mainly regarding redstone
I miss the days of daily uploads rather than monthly ones like now
Mhm
I get why and understand (burnout prevention + life stuff), doesn't mean I don't miss it š
But I have less time to watch than I used to, so I guess it evens out
(Speaking of, I saw a new life series is starting next month, wonder if he'll be participating)
oooooh that's interesting
Also the audience expectations for editing quality has gone up over the years.
Those wanting that daily vibe just watch streams/vods instead
Part 531 of my let's play doesn't make a good title or thumbnail
I mean etho to this day doesn't do fancy thumbnails
Like I said, I get it, but that doesn't mean I didn't like daily uploads
Sure it does, I'd watch that
Yeah, for etho, me too
I watch every single video
I like low-production stuff
I saw recently I even watched every ark survival video for some crazy reason (I don't like that game)
The main thing I don't like is when someone does the obnoxious youtuber voice
The problem with the part numbers in the title, is the implicit prereq of seeing the prior episodes first
I've got a tab open for another watch through of project ozone 2
Which unfortunately a lot of amateur videographers do
I guess I can kinda see that, though with long running MC ones there usually are milestones that can be good parts to start at (like etho's world tours every 50 episodes)
Idk, I jump into the middle of series all the time. I can always skim through the backlog if I need to
And the second you deviate from just doing part number names, you now need the videos to actually have independent purpose and not just be part of a wider series
(Of course that's a case by case basis)
Yeah, minecraft is also unique compared to normal game playthroughs since, because it's so open ended and sandboxy, you won't really be missing much starting mid way (compared to story games for example)
Yeah depends on the scope of the project, how much editing is used, and how much you want to leave on the cutting room floor
Which is more extreme in the old-school Runescape community, where a 30 hour grind becomes a 10 second montage in a wider video
osrs mentioned I'm here
osrs content creators are the master of taking 100 hours of work and turning it into a small minute long segment
While the streamers just make bank directly and save on the editing costs, at the expense of not really telling a story
and I don't watch them
Neither
give me your 45 minute video breakdown of what you've spent the last 6 months of your life grinding out
I do prefer the more story centric ones like settled vs the more... video diary ones
me too but they're rare
Dumb Minecraft mod idea: Touch Grass, where right clicking grass with an empty hand will make you immune to debuffs for a day
I feel like there will be some semi interesting gameplay loop regarding bringing a silk touched grass with you everywhere
Though if it lasts the day then might not be needed as much
Iirc with constructing guardian farms it was already standard practise to bring a cow with you to have a consistent supply of milk to purge the debuffs
It could be shorter, a day just felt better for meme purposes š
Could make different benefits/immunities for different grasses (whether that be by biome, or by type (normal/mycelium/podzel/maybe-snowy))
By biome would fit best, even if less ideal for gameplay
Like, doing it by biome better fits "go out into the real world"
I see skyrim cheese wheel hoarding strat is canon to real life
Technically cheese could protect from gunshots if you used enough it as armor
Forgets, or "forgets"
Hate to say it but isn't part of your job dealing with banks????

We got a hilariously defensive email this morning about our paychecks being late
Ouch
i love an excuse to link dan luu https://danluu.com/nothing-works/
Why be defensive about that sort of thing
When it comes to buying products and services, at a personal level, most people I know who've checked the work of people they've hired for things like home renovation or accounting have found grievous errors in the work.
(Okay, got through all MC items, time to go do something else instead of doing all blocks and other stuff)
That's a lot of dense text I don't have the attention span for right now š
that's okay, it might be better for your SAN if you don't read it /lh
Saw this, and suddenly wanting to put multiple card minigames in a game project, and if you try to put cards from game A into a deck for game B it technically works but interacts with the game weirdly
that's kinda Inscryption

Has pathos been testing archipelago specifically?
It's part of the mod compat testing
Archipelago and a few other mods need to be tested separately
it only took an hour but my stupid git ssh keys finally work again
turns out, git looks in a completely different drive for the keys than ssh does, because sure it does
Interesting, that I was never made aware lmao
So my mod is big enough to warrant custom special testing from Pathos, but not big enough for me to deserve the mod author role
well, Pathos installs every mod for compat testing... any mod can be special enough for special testing if they fuck with that enough
(i imagine you probably could get the mod author role for it though? i dont think its limited to just nexus. though idk if its limited to "nexus or github" either)
Isn't putting yourself on the wiki and being level 25 on the server the only requirements
well, you need to have a released mod š
The level 25 thing is what I don't have
It's a very very high bar for someone who isn't super chatty
I can't even imagine how impossible it must be for someone who has trouble with english
It just feels so arbitrary difficult, and pointless
The joke is that Archipelago is probably the biggest mod, or at least top 5, of all stardew valley, on several metrics
instead of "big enough" to deserve special testing, i would say it "fucks with the game enough"
Not in popularity, of course, but in size/extent/etc
It does that too, massively lmao
that's the metric, though, not popularity
thats why it has to be sequestered for mod compat testing, is all
Pathos literally installs every. mod.
at once
60k lines of code on the mod side, about 30k in the generator, and pretty much all of it is harmony patches
At this point some philosopher could ask about the Stardew of Theseus or whatever lol
I think that it's partially due to the fact that you get access to the decompile repo at that point
no you need lvl 50 for that
thats 100!
I decompile my own code lmao, I thought everyone did that
The decompile repo has been fixed to recompile
no like, a github hosted repo of the official game decompile. not the source code but still a decompile
For debugging
the level requirements on mod author and the extra perks are to prevent community abuse. and the mod author role is specific to this discord anyway
and yeah if mod author was given out for basically free i could see people spamming mod showcase with it more often. or spamming threads
the point is that you have to be dedicated enough to hanging out on here
I've given up on ever having a chance at being a mod author here
the nature of trying to moderate a server with 262k people in it
My understanding is that there are too many mods and therefore this community has taken steps to limit the number of mod authors by strongly disincentivizing it through these arbitrary requirements
Which, I get. The community is big. Can't allow everyone in
that is not my perspective on the situation at all, lmao
its not strongly disincentivizing
But still. The result is that I have a big mod and will never be a mod author. That is the path that was chosen
and there arent too many mods. people are encouraged to make more
my understanding of it is that while this is an official discord (at least i think so?) it is still just a stardew discord and if you want some perks for this stardew discord, you need to interface with this stardew discord, is all
perks for regulars
It is a filter that only let's chatty people through, in the hopes that it correlates with dedication and respect (it probably does)
dedication to being a member of this chat server specifically, is the thing
But it will of course have some false positives and some false negatives, as all filters do
I'm pretty sure the criteria to getting mod author is "publish a mod"
(and be of the appropriate level, which is whats bein discussed here)
Yes but heres the thing. My biggest interactions here happen when trying to help someone with my mod. Which is, hopefully, what mod authors should do.
But at least twice, ive been told by a moderator to take it to DMs instead. Which means it is actively disincentivizing earning the levels through helping players
Im guessing the only reason this convo has gone on so long is because this channel is marked as off topic
you're only like 5 levels away, I think you'll make it
while i cant comment on what a junimo does or not say or tell people to do i just think you've very much extrapolated that experience too far to confidently say that its an active effort to disincentivize people from becoming mod authors
two points, and then i have to go:
- if you are only coming on here to help people troubleshoot your own mod, then yeah that's not too much community engagement, so you shouldn't be surprised that your level is low
- you're already level 20, just like come on here and say what's up every now and then and you'll get there lol
Didnt someone in this very convo agree that it exists to prevent people from submitting a low effort mod and getting the role instantly?
Thats what disincentivizing means, or at least, thats what i mean when i used the word
where "instantly" means "without having established a presence on the server", yes
saying that its so it s not given out to just anyone to prevent abuse is not the same as saying its to disincentivize authors bc theres too many mods
Prevent it from being too common
disincentivization to me implies discouragement
well, low effort as in "I changed one line of text and pushed it to nexus, wheres my role"
As a user, i would expect "mod author" to mean "this person makes mods". But here, it means "this person is an active community member and also makes mods".
When I say disincentivize, what I mean is, it exists to make sure there aren't too many people asking for it, or expecting to have it. It shows us "making a mod is not enough to get the role"
Maybe that's juste the wrong word for it. I can concede that. Filter would have been better
i think a user of a discord is generally expected to read the server information (like the roles channel) to understand what a role means
I'm also not native English speaker, although experienced
if you dont mean discouragement though then i think our disagreement is a lot less, ive just only ever heard and used that word to mean like, taking active steps to make people not want to do something
I understand what you mean, but I don't think it's really the case. I think the server would be perfectly happy if every single user had the mod author role. There is some criteria, but it's less to punish mod authors and more to prevent users who solely want a new role without actually having any interest in making a mod
the difference between saying "you need to do these things first" vs "we dont want you to do these things, but if you really insist..."
I don't disagree with that
then i think a lot of this was just a word definition communication mistake lol
(on both sides, for the record, not just putting it all on you)
there's also a security aspect (sorry if this was already mentioned, I only skimmed) - the mod author role gives you certain privileges like showcasing mods (which implies some sort of endorsement by the server), making threads in the mod making channels etc. It makes sense for the server to want to restrict access to these to people who have demonstrated they actually want to participate in the server
atra
if someone made you design a game
what would you make
Taking bets on "mobile app that gamifies things like going outside and touching grass"
is that a game or a podcast with a step meter
Oh it's friday
This reminded me lol
...how
Because friday is "atra asks us fun random question time"
I'm iro, atra's the other one
... so when iro asked atra a fun random question i got reminded that atra didn't ask us the fun random question yet
We made that in Archipelago
We call it Archipela-Go! (named after pokemon go)
It's a randomized "game" that you add to a multiworld and it makes you go outside for walks/jogs and get items for other games
I finally have a server tag wow I feel so proud of myself
knitting simulator 3000

Not a typing game š
I'm too dumb to develop a game
It could be a phone game and then you could swipe back and forth to move yarn around?
Atra u are so not dumb
Right? That's me
You aren't dumb

channel of intelligence
we are intelligence
finally, a channel name fit for the unbounded genius such as I, whose intellect was that I once spelled burgeoisie correctly
wow this is definitely not a self-indulgent name for a channel
Tbh I didn't even notice the channel name changing
short lived
Happy to be back

What happened
channel renamed to channel of intelligence
(but not this time, lol /lh)

You dare self-deprecate when I'm not around to bap you with a newspaper

you know what would be fun? a Small Double bed in a room that's exactly the same size as it (including the door opening outward instead of inward). Preferably as one part of a larger bedroom but not necessarily
don't give hotels any ideas
last hotel I was in back in london was already a bed crammed in with like a bit of floor to the side to just barely get out and stand
I think you just invented an XL capsule hotel.
I already nest
By which I mean I furnish the house with a stupid number of cushions and throws
Highly recommend, it's very cozy
Back in college I knew of someone who turned their dorm room into something like that by building a floor halfway up the height. They kept all their stuff on the lower level and the upper level was a giant bed, iirc.
Are dorm rooms that tall???
It's....a special dorm
or they're really short
The dorm rooms were pretty normal height
This was definitely a weird thing to do to a room, architecturally
But typically ceilings were perhaps 9' or 10' in many dorm rooms?
So two relatively short spaces
Yup
I had a loft
Built it with my own two hands!
The divided room thing was weird enough that I heard about it despite not really knowing the person
I had a loft mostly because some freshmen next door had too much wood and the cleaning staff asked them to not keep it in the hallway (extremely reasonable request) and I said ok, either you use it or I use it, let's go
I had a loft I built tooo
I have a loft now
It's fun
Climbing the ladder when extremely sleepy is a tad hazardous but it's fiiiine
I have found the downsides to a loft is that it increases the activation energy of going to bed
Which is dangerous when tired
I uh, might have skipped building a ladder
depending on if you count having two random bits of wood strategically placed on the side
I still slept in a normal bed under the loft, the loft was mostly extra storage or if a friend wanted to crash for the night
for mine, iirc you stood on a dresser, then stuck your foot into a brace, and then heaved up and over the side
Also some strategically placed bits that made a shoe rack
Ah, no. Both sides of mine had four bits of wood you could climb up
ladder would be a VERY generous description of what I had
Like mine was pretty legit imo
Niceeeee
I didn't want to spend the area for a separate ladder
But I did have a table bolted to the side
I found a picture! Not the prettiest, but I think this was the "upgraded" ladder (before the bar you see, it was just the diagonal braces)
is that nail just sticking out or is it bent over
(that's the ladder)
For the record, I did this all the time, but it was in everquest 2 housing not IRL š
Floating carpets are perfectly capable of supporting the weight of people and a bunch of furniture, you see
I enjoy how both Elizabeth and I were like "oh yeah, a loft"
building lofts was very normal.
Only type of thing I ever built was a blanket fort
I don't have photos of mine though
Itās a screw! I forget why it was there, I think I used it to hang things
in the like 8 years this Windows install has survived I think this is the first time it decided to bluescreen on boot
I see some going back to at least 2018, though the UI could've changed at some point? I've always seen them around
though the UI section is hidden if the dev never posts any
Well, I just don't recall ever seeing "Developer Logs" at the top
I feel like "Assets" used to be there instead, but now it's a subsection under "Browse"
Also in pillow computer woes: in trying to fix WiFi on my kubuntu drive (it would connect but no traffic) I made it so it can't even see my wifi and mobile data very slow so I had to copy the windows repair iso from my phone over kde link
My ethernet didn't work this morning so instead of fixing it I left the house
Note that "fixing it" is likely "power cycle the router"
...oh, on the main header itself? I hadn't noticed it at all
assumed you meant these sections on the game pages
looks like it may have been a few years ago https://itch.io/t/2480029/top-level-blogging-available-for-all
Windows installer does not boot. This is probably categorised as "bad"
Does a windows install ever go smoothly the first time around? Has anyone had that experience?
Usually does for me but that's in vms
Last time around i got trolled by the microsoft bot

I only did this one time, because the key was not working for wtv reason and i had to call to activate
how can the main windows install break and then the installers obtain the same problem magically
Oh no its all purple again
I wish you luck
Is this how they'll get you?
At this point I'm saying hopefully
Firefox stop crashing I just want to download Windows 11 on my phone is this too much
didn't you say this pc is over 8yo, does the win11 installer even work on it
I can get into my linux fine
ah, I see
But I kinda want windows to live for a little longer
just windows being its usual lovely self
Windows just does not work, at all, 2 different install medias and one is probably 5 years old and nothing
have you tried backing up any files you have on the windows install and then nuking it and starting it again
At that point I just don't need windows
And I can't even get into a windows installer to reinstall it
oof
literally my only guess is "what if wiping windows makes the installer work" but that seems unlikely
I wonder what could possibly cause both windows and windows install media not work
I don't even need windows it's just easier atm
oh yeah I'm on windows rn too for the same reason
I have a feeling it might be something to do with my storage devices bc if I remove my "works fine but makes angry noises" 4tb HD it doesn't purple screen it black screens
I could totally just nuke kubuntu and install arch over it.. I have the cd on my desk
why would that kill the external installation medium though
though as soon as a storage device starts being dodgy I get scared haha
It scanning for windows drives maybe
this is why you don't buy a drive wait 8 months and then try to use it
windows being quirky
I love termux
did a practical assignment for one course on my ipad while in a tutorial for another course once using it
termux is amazing
Microsoft 403s wget
Chrome.. maybe?
Hmmmm
Internet things say removing drives helped
And I think I remember some bioses can disable sata connections without disconnecting them
But also being distracted by minecraft is fun
I hate windows for having these kinds of issues
why would a bad drive that isn't even where your OS is cause a bluescreen
no it's not a blue screen it's a purple acreen
There's meant to be a window in the installer with a purple background.. the window never appears
CHROME WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU STARTED AND DIDNT TELL ME

pillow did you know most of the links in your bio are dead
They aren't dead they haven't been birthed yet
Out of the one pictured 4 are dead
And all have functional subdomains except transgender.boo
still missing one
groundblock.org, transgender.boo and mods.directory can't connect to server and pil.ninja and stardew.rocks have unexpected EOF
are all of those your domains
Oh did I never make groundblock.org do things
There's more..
Actually no it works as a Minecraft server
ah
to be fair mods.directory is being worked on
I'm aware of that part
indeed
I assumed you just spin up the server whenever you're working on it
which
mods.directory doesn't point to the code running
technically the server only spijs up when in use because its all like "serverless" and "edge network"
ew
look next is kinda nice ok
Finally I have windows 11 on my computer time to write
bios wdym both my m.2s aren't
present
Oh it means in sata mode
Hopefully disabling sata doesn't break things
I guess I'll try win11 without doing ot actially
hmm
A window popped up
And now purple.
Ogmgogmgomgomgogmgogogm
I disabled Sata and it worked
"Install driver to show hardware" uhhm

aw that didn't magically fix my windows install

well that was a nice saga i love windows
oh no google thinks my ip is a bot now https://i.pillow.rocks/IcTV7vnv5U
I've gotten that before, sometimes it just happens
also an ip address is not identifying info unless it can be looked up with whois
Wren is in pillow's walls
i am aware but i still like to minimise how many people have it
like i am not diligent at all but i like to be sometimes, i'd rather 260k people not have it
it may not be super identifying but with my old ISP I know for a fact they didn't rotate our IP for well over a year and I'm not convinced they'd rotate on request, so I get just choosing not to share it haha
im not sure if i specifically have a static one or it just rotates rarely so similar situational for me
usually you pay extra for truly static
mhm
on a semi related note, some vpn sponsorships on youtube mention it preventing you from getting ddosed during a game for some reason ("if you suddenly have lag in the middle of a game, it could be throttling or your opponent could have ddosed you" iirc), and it makes me wonder just how common it is for individuals to actually be ddosed
I struggle to imagine it being common
Back when I was hosting my webpages from home, I went to all the trouble to set up detection for DDNS, and I don't think the IP address changed once in like 2 years lol
probably more common in fps games but even then it'd weird they leak your ip at all
aquova can u make leah respect video embeds thx
or that your opponent has time and resources to go ddos you while playing the game
probably some ddos as a service thing
I don't think I've made a change to leah in like 2 years
and it doesn't seem to be a part of the copy that they're made to say by the company, so it makes me wonder if those youtubers literally pulled it out of their ass
its a wonder it still runs
that can't possibly be worth the price you'd have to pay though, right?
you'd be surprised how angry some people get and how cheap cybercrime can be
stackoverflow person says impossible https://stackoverflow.com/a/68882893
you can now I think
docs dont seem to mention it for anything except new thread messages
There's a reason the problem cases for my cybercrime exam involved random, ordinary people buying ransomware and phishing resources, after all
Most cyber crime stuff has assymetric costs where it's more expensive to defend from it than attacking with it.
Particularly with DDoS where your just using someone else's compromised networks anyway
ah, that last bit is probably where the disconnect was for me
I forgot you aren't actually renting a legitimate network
is that what I would expect?
If you're familiar with minecraft š
never played it!
looks about right
Fun fact, the enchanting table language is actually called galactic standard and was not originally created for minecraft
Yeah I think I remember that being talked about back when enchanting was introduced. (I'm not old!)
I also remember learning about this

yall are like good at computing, how tf does someone get errors in a string in python when literally just decalring variables
Im genuinely curious
what do you mean
Someone just sent me this and imlike how in the world can u get redlines doing this
I dont use python by choice only force
I think your IDE is just crap
oh its spellcheck
it could be
its not mine
idk why people think I know know python bc I dont someone just keeps sending me their stuff and im gettign mind boggled how they are finding these errors
lmao I think you're spot on
what makes it balatro?
just "roguelite board game"?
it ends in atro

In the screenshots I saw a "points x multipliers" thing, as well as what looks like a joker type system, as well as a couple other things that I don't quite now the right balatro words to explain
Or just this, that works too
(I only have 80 minutes in balatro - I did enjoy it, just never went back after my first round (which I almost won))
impressive, it took me ages to win lmao
I think the tutorial seeds are supposed to be a bit easier? š
Probably the reason I made it close to the end
I believe the tutorial always uses the same seed
Oh, I thought it was like a special set of generation rules for tutorial mode
I love that game

I told myself I will finish my mod tn (will I who knows?)
it's the journey š š«° NAWT the destination š š
Bro its been months I need to sit down and just finish it
the people really need another stupid ass sdv so im really doing a service to the community /j (this is a selfish mod that adds a thing that idk if anyoen cares ab)
whats a non selfish mod
also i assumed u r talk about not sdv mod since this is off-topic
sdv mod I dont feel like moving bc im not asking for advice or focus on the mod
I thought I was gone with my planning but realized I forgot an additional path choice
its just a seb rework
I just am an older emo person and would rather play with an older nerdier seb mod that also doesnt focus on romance
( im bad at writing romance)
I am adding some but I fear it will not be the exact ya know want for the demogrpahic who likes seb
I know theres a lot of romancy heavy ones and one thats rather intense.
I just want him to be a nice nerdy emo dude tbh. Has goals has ambition for his life and is a fun emo but mature dude
why is getting an SDL program to compile on windows like pulling teeth
didn't know what sdl was, looked it up, was reminded of this lovely kind of online programming nerd
it is the community that coined the term RTFM after all
fair, but RTFM is quite an important step
Chue has pretty colors
I just learned that during nuclear fusion reactions, stars can create oxygen.
I am now choosing to believe that stars go out because the oxygen bonds with the hydrogen over a long enough period of time that enough water puts all the fire out.
This is officially the one conspiracy theory I will believe.
Anyways, time to go spread the idea among the flat earthers and such.
SDL is Simple DirectMedia Layer. It's a widely-used c++ cross-platform abstraction layer for windowing, input, sound, and opengl graphics. Many games engines and frameworks are built on top of it.
yeah it's used a lot
I prefer SFML over SDL
It's like that one xkcd comic but for the game industry
Tried both back when I got into C++ over a decade ago
Admittedly I haven't really looked at anything since SDL2... any
But it being a C library instead of C++ does downgrade it a bit for C++ use in my opinion
(Since you don't have all the nice wrappers around pointery stuff)
though you have a gazillion bindings for it regardless
I wouldn't want to write a game in any c variant tbh
Sounds like it would take a million years to do anything notable with
SFML also has a slower development cycle since it's much less popular
...at least back when I used it, though I haven't gotten any pings on the discord about new releases lately
SFML 3 was in development for ages though, and only released relatively recently
I mean SDL3 took like 700 years
Got it. Awaiting assembly Wren game
There's also a fork that has some, um... pretty big criticisms of the original project: https://vittorioromeo.com/index/blog/vrsfml.html
The other joke would have been Java or Go btw
(And now I'm off to catch up on DMs!
)
I'm not chris sawyer lol
Is that the RC2 guy?
did the math. Took 11-12 years
You're close!
I've considered making games with java but the tooling really isn't there.
They'll fusion until iron
Rollercoaster tycoon 1 & 2 and transport tycoon mainly
I wondered why the name looked familiar, checked the SFML forum link and sure enough their username is one I recognize š
Some of the criticisms feel pretty valid, honestly.
To the point I'm kinda... marking this fork as something I might want to use.
That's boring, putting out the fire with water is funner. Which is the only good criteria for what makes a good conspiracy theory
always fun to see forks on open source projects made out of some disagreement
they almost always die tho
Redot moment
reminds me of some big argument I read at one point between the main godot dude and a lot of rendering engineers that were very opposed to what the godot guy wanted to do
I wonder why? The renderer seems pretty solid?
SFML 3 has been talked about since before 2.5.x (2018) but only released late last year.
I would go digging on the forums but they aren't loading right now. (HTTP 200, empty page)
from what I understand the godot guy likes to go with unconventional methods that go against well known wisdom of what works and/or performs well
godot isn't particularly known for good rendering performance so I'm willing to believe it
I've never had problems with it, but I'm also not using it for high-fidelity 3d, so...
Also somehow 2.6 was released in 2023, which is wild to me since I remember it being talked about way back when too.
Fun fact, that's also the first release which had scancodes. The first PR of which was made in 2014.
(There's also issue #1 for when they first moved to github, rendering masks, created in 2011 and finally completed last year)
it's also just a case of all of them being very opinionated people about rendering tech
all on the older side with decades of experience
I also hear it's been improving a lot post 4.0
oh yeah
But I haven't tried it myself
that was a big part of godot 4 from what I understood
Yeah, but I mean even after 4.0 itself
yeah it continues
thing about rendering too from what I've heard is that the godot guy essentially wanted to do it himself so he took that and then no one could really make big changes till 4.0 when the vulkan rewrite was done
I definitely think there's some merit to experimenting with new ideas, but at the same time some things are already figured out
I've heard those things too, honestly. I'm inclined to believe them, but am also entirely unqualified to say if they make sense or not.
They do have a prototype for it now...
Yup! I'm watching that issue like a hawk.
can't wait to ship the .net runtime to the web in more ways than just Blazor
I do think sdfgi is a huge benefit for older and lower-spec hardware
people do like sdfgi I think
That + libgodot would mean I can use my hypothetical game IDE for game jam games
Which is a demographic that tends to get ignored by the other major engines
Right? The lack of web support is why I'm really, really hesitant to hard target Godot.
unreal engine scoffs at your midrange gpu
first gotta turn off half the default graphics settings
Unreal would probably obliterate my 1660
I've been told you can make unreal engine 5 perform well but unlike most its competitors it tends to default to expensive rendering features being on instead of off
Just stick with UE4, problem "solved" (you can get away with ignoring it for longer)
But then you miss the nice drawer-like content panel in UE5. /j
I don't know what that is
But I'm not a fan of a lot of modern game engine UI layouts in general š
One of these days I kinda want to try writing something with love2d.
(There's a reason this hypothetical thing's UI leans closer to my memories of Game Maker 7, over current engines like Godot)
bevy doesn't have an editor so it can't have a bad UI which means it's the best one
Gm7 was the goat
I wish I still had some of my old game prototypes
Especially the old MP one using 39dll
i prefer SDL, but i also prefer C, so my opinion is barely worth its throwing distance
I prefer raylib (I've never used any of them)
True, anyone who prefers C clearly has inherent trash opinions /s
nice and simple
Finished reading this:
joke's on you, a decent bunch of them don't believe stars even are what they are
there's a significant amount of them that doesn't believe in gravity

intriguing
