hey, about the variants: the are a different type of the same level. they use a different generation methods to make the levels be distinct between each other.
some create completely new structures, i.e. snake beach, pillars tropics
some just change the way the map looks, i.e. red beach, blue beach
others have more of the special item spawn positions, like bombs tropics

I think an ocean/lake biome where it goes under an unclimable wall would be cool, you would have to swim into air pockets to fill up your oxygen meter (each air pocket would have limited air) and there could be sharks that could eat you and/or coral that you get caught on.

thank god i calculated the lava's speed before they re-disabled it lmao [i just saw the week old annoucnement for it];

Answer i got is 0.35 m/s. to do this, i basically just.. died twice on the same seed; once at the bottom of the kiln [1356 m] and then again on the starting platform [1370 m] once the lava began rising. it takes 40 seconds to travel 14 meters, which is a LOT faster than the fog by every measure. Now if every quadrant of the Day/Night has the same amount of time [Noon-> Sunset, Sunset->Midnight, etc.], every 24 hours on the island is 13 minutes 20 seconds for us. The fog creeps closer at 27 meters/day. 27/800 = 0.03375 = 0.034 m/s.

So TL;DR =
Lava Speed = 0.35 m/s
Fog Speed = 0.034 m/s

The lava has a +10% increase to its speed in contrast to the fog, which isn't really saying much considering both are still pretty slow.

Though speaking of which, you know what I find increasingly interesting? With every major update, the devs indirectly put more and more emphasis that my theory of PEAK taking place either around Mexico or in the Aztec Underworld [Mictlan] is correct. Think about it;

• 5 Levels and 5 Campfires = Prophecy of the 5 suns.
• The freezing mist that can kill you = Likely a manifestation of Mictlan.
• Every level = different core concept, meaning different Aztec God. [Shore = Tezcatlipoca, Tropics/Roots = Quetzalcoatl, Alpine/Mesa = Tlaloc, Caldera = Chalchiuhtlicue, Kiln = Tonatiuh]. Interestingly, all 5 of these gods each ruled over the sun in that order.
• The sun stops moving while in the Kiln or Caldera. In Aztec mythos, Tonatiuh the fifth and final sun god demanded a blood sacrifice daily in order to move the sun across the sky. There are even 2 achievements for this; one for taking part in the sacrifice and the other for being the sacrifice.
