After climbing a sand dune in micigan, the fastest player can knock down rocks and cause an avalance, i think the climb wouldn't have any set path, the first player makes footprints to follow that make stamina consumption none for the followers. Sand is very tiring to climb, you have your footing and it compresses below your foot slowly so your foot doesn't actually land where you wanted per se. Straight up climb is hard, slaloming is easy.

It’s called “Scoutmasters island” and you get teleported there when you get hit with an ancient blow dart, and you have to climb to the top while the scoutmaster hunts you. If you make it to the top successfully you get stamina bonuses and hunger bonuses that last until you make it to the next level

Cold is worse on alpine, since the blizzard cold doesn't go away on its own at night. But mesa is longer. It's mostly just being fast so you don't need as much heat. Burning in campfires if that's helpful, ending the night with a lot of cold instead of using a heat source
