I've reached ascent 4 where you need to bring your own flare to the peak, but what happens in 5 6 and 7? I know 7 is that you can't revive teammates, but rn I kinda feel like the game is a bit easy and wanna know what the difficulty ramp is like

yeah, there's pretty simple solutions for most ascents imo
1: just don't fall?
2: stock food and scavenge more (also thick mints cinema)
3: balloons are more valuable I guess?
4: only removes one slot of inventory, assuming you give the flare to the person least likely to die
5: that actually sounds pretty hard to deal with
6: change routes, stock on extra stamina
7: just don't fall?

but maybe it's easier said than done

It gets pretty tough once you throw it all together. 5+6 will generally make runs take quite a bit longer which makes 2 pretty awful sometimes. More noticeable when playing with others than solo of course.

my advice is to only use the lantern when you reach about 40% in Frost Damage alone. you take only 2.78 Frost Damage every 5 seconds so it's very manageable if you know what you're doing. [I ACTUALLY did the math on this ages ago]

you have Ascent 5 to thank for that; using a stopwatch that started as sunset, i timed how long it takes for Frost Damage to reach 50% of my total Health/Stamina bar which took 1:30. 1 unit of Frost Damage triggers every 5 seconds and knowing that 1:30 is 90 seconds, you divide 90 seconds by 5 damage which gives us 18 ticks of damage to reach half Health/Stamina. Then, divide 50 damage by 18 ticks and you get 2.78. Thus, since every unit is the same size, it's safe to say every unit is worth 2.78.

if you also multiply 2.78 by 36, you get 100.08 which is very likely as close as the devs could have gotten to 100

it's outright not possible for mesa and alpine in the same run. The order is Shore-Tropics-Mesa/Apline-Caldera-The Kiln

Of course, I hope that changes. I really hope aggro crab and landfall make it so Tropics is part of the randomizer, and also that they add even more biomes.

In my ideal world, they'd makes a new biome to replace Alpine as the third area, then make Caldera and Alpine alternate, with the last level being the kiln or a giant ice-climbers style mountain respectively. I doubt they would, but if they did? Awesome. Incredible.

For ascent 6/7, do people prefer mesa or alpine? I kind of prefer mesa even though it takes longer, just because the random alpine storms can be brutal

for asc7 probably alpine is going to be a safer choice, while the storms can be brutal, you can always play around them or properly prepare with items, mesa has a lot of random things which can instantly kill a player outright, and is in general quite chaotic --- that said, the sun's heat can help to counter the nighttime cold, allowing you to get a little buffer of heat/cold before going into the next cycle

imo, tornados in mesa are more brutal. Maybe I haven't figured them out yet, but they seem to spawn next to me and fling me into a cactus every time.
*Also tumbleweed sniped me quite a few times

That being said, nights in mesa are probably a bit easier to manage: The cold at night just barely fills your entire stamina bar, so if you are not hungry and have no status effects you wont lose due to cold. While if you take any additional frost damage in the alpine you definitely need a source of heat every night.

To consistently clear higher asc I'd prefer alpine as climbs there feel more controlled. Save up on heat sources (by for example fainting at night in the shore & tropics).

aye, there's a lot of threats consistently across mesa, tumbleweeds and tornadoes are especially deadly as they can be quite random (though I think tornadoes are more obvious due to their size, you can keep tabs on them, but their current pull strength is kind of insane) also the TNT and scorpions on the second half also can immediately end you if you mess up

So far the TNT feels fair to me. It warns you ahead of time and even in tight situation I feel there is something I can do to survive the encounter.
The scorpions haven't gotten me so far.
The deaths in the mesa are typically immediate, while the alpine slowly chips away at you and freezes you / starves you of resources.
So I'd expect more resourceful players to have an easier time in the alpines.
I think, especially my first few runs the alpines felt deadly enough. They definitely do not have to balance the biomes around experienced players doing A6/7 climbs.

I never have an issue climbing mesa like i can with alpine, but the nights of alpine feel so much more brutal and often i just have to wait them out. Hmm, that's fair. I feel like the tornados shouldn't be able to spawn within a certain radius of a player because there's just no chance. Past that point though, all the mesa climbing up are pretty short, which is nice for the low stam/heavier items.

I used my heat sources in tropics and just fainted a couple nights in mesa since there are so many nice spots lol. Having the heat packs in alpine is quite nice to combat the night; I was worried the fog would get me in mesa

I just passed asc 5, so I'm trying to which biome to go for asc 6 🤔

I was a little wrong, my mistake. The entrance into the maze does require the item glitch after trying again, however taking the first right (doesn't require the item glitch, but makes it a little quicker) makes the rest of the Tomb a breeze as following that hall way down, taking a left and then a right will put you at the entrance to the long hall way.

Tropics does have a lot of vines but is overall pretty easy with the right route. Mesa I would say is easy, the left side of the canyon connects so you don't have to go all the way down or use a cannon today! The kiln is also easy but I would recommend a chain launcher or two just in case (I had to use one on my ascent)

honestly best chance youve got is to just plan a route beforehand that hits the largest number of luggages that you can-

even then its not a guarantee, i know on my bro and i's individual runs, we only got the last rope we needed in the middle of the kiln

just gotta pray to bing bong you get the last rope you need before reaching the peak

I just couldn't find a route anywhere so I went for the climb first ask questions later approach. Whatever I did in Tropics is not reproduceable as it was an absolute mess. Alpines I had to backtrack 4 times. Probably the worst run through the Caldera I've had in a long time. Then fell within the first 20% of the Kiln xD
