I was trying to break my personal record though so I wasn't paying too much attention, key is though they are much easier to spot from a distance on tropics IMO

You can survive the cold of the night if you drop all your items and have low hunger, you pass out but day comes before you die, assuming you have no cold from anything else.

Yeah. You can still do it in safe areas where the windstorms can't get you, but you need to not get hit by them during the night.

The caves are more appealing in solo runs for that reason imo, although of course it'll depend on the map and the player.

It might be reasonable to save your lantern in the shore and the jungle and just pass out in safe situations so you have more fuel for the alpine, although of course the ultimate answer is to get lucky with more lanterns or other heat giving objects.

Spending the night at a campfire (letting yourself almost freeze before lighting it) or the capybaras is also good basic advise.

I managed to get through Ascent 2 - 4 on today's map but had a few bad item spawns in Ascent 5. Actually had my backpack disappear midway which was frustrating, but with nothing to cope with frost I more or less died

Use very minimal lantern in the shore.

Save it for Tropics and Alpine

You need to have a careful run. No fall damage at all + manage hunger well. Stock up on extra stamina and use the trick to lunge right before your main stamina runs out!

I like to start the tropics and alpine halfway though the night, burning myself A LOT with the campfire as I start.

Cureall and Pandora's Lunchbox are great

Ascents 5-7 because you need to take the lantern I suggest not packing any food and foraging as you go.

Finding a faerie lantern can save your entire run, go for as many luggage as possible to hopefully get a 2nd lantern

im not that far up ascend yet, but I assume that heat packs gathered in tropics and alpine also can be helpful.
During snowstorm I use them to just book it regardless, as they instantly remove the cold damage. So I figure using them at night later on likely allows you to climb safely too?

alpines is a nightmare today and the capybaras are very covered up and hard to get to, not impossible but I haven't been able to get to them without using tools yet

I can get to the capybaras consistently, but finding a good route up the rest of alpine from where they are at is difficult, so it might not be a good day for gourmand unless there's another yellow winterberry somewhere.

I used Pandora's Lunchbox not even a quarter of the way up the Kiln, which froze me to the point of fainting and lost of my food. My bag had an Anti-Rope Spool and 2 Anti-Rope guns so unfortunately, losing all my food was the best outcome I could have had. But that also meant climbing the Kiln was a race against time and I'd be lying if my heart wasn't pounding because of that hunger bar in the UI

I was solo, never having passed Alpine before. Finally, a run where I passed Alpine! I then proceeded to one shot Caldera first try. I'm hyped. I set down my bag to get food out. Bing Bong is in there too. I'm gonna get so many merit badges...... Set bag down, it falls through the floor of the Kiln and plummets to the depths of the volcano. All my supplies gone, I have 2 pitons on me and a cooked egg. I then proceeded to finish the kiln first try as well. Still don't have the bing bong badge but I got a bunch of others that run. It was also on standard difficulty so I unlocked challenges and stuff too.

I still struggle every day with Alpine. It's genuinely the only place I die anymore.

didnt have the energy to escape.,...

i get doing thing solo make something more diffacult

but i always come up short by the end :/

Jungle felt harder than normal to me, but the capybaras and alpine in general were super easy

There's usually plenty of natural food around, you just need to scavenge for it and properly ration your other foods

I did that, but I got unlucky and got caught out on a ledge fully exposed, so I had to quickly drop down to a safer spot, but still fell unconscious.
