Kiln today was actually remarkably easier than alot of recent ones imo. We only ever used one tool (anti rope to get up into a hole that was straight above us) and got through easily and quickly

Food becomes your time limit in the kiln usually

but the caldera gives so many eggs so try get some before leaving

Eh, there are workable paths, although i've only done one run on today's maps so far. Most of them resulted in me getting to the top of shore/tropics/alpine a good ways before my two friends who chose inexplicably slower ways up (and fell down a sizable distance a couple of times)

Pretty certain it stops once you reached the campfire, or at least when you're very close in range. Now I'm not a 100% sure for your other question but I believe it's both, although one or the other will get triggered first, there is an altitude line check where beyond it, it will start the fog, but you also can't just stand still for too long at the base of the mountain, the fog will eventually start

Maybe someone did the test, I recently added a mod to see my altitude so I'll check next time

I just beat normal difficulty (solo cause I don't have friends to play with). Alpine level was the hardest, died twice in it and died once in caldera because I was unfamiliar with that level.

the reason I was able to pass Alpine was that I just happen to have the right tools like the chains, rope hook, and lantern, and because I always prepare cooked food for emergency.
