So we already know they accidentally killed on of the other scouts on their expedition. There were no medpacks so they couldn’t revive them so berry had to watch them slowly die. It was night in the tropics, raining hard, hunger settling in. No food in sight. They were starving and the only thing edible was… the other scout. They regret it… but berrybug ate them to survive. Their eyes filled with tears bite after bite, giving them their iconic crying look
