would you imagine the conductive lightning is more like lethal/botw where youre just automatically struck no matter what, or that it just summons lightning directly on you but you can still avoid it

I think a means to make the constant rain be balanced out is if the terrain generated were easier to climb as a result. That area is more focused on horizontal traversal

Yeh, my initial thought was "How could I alter the Caldera to be more varied and interesting?" so I started thinking water instead of fire for the most part.

I just had the ruins leading into the Kiln there because I couldn't think of a better means to link the two nor did I really have plans to think up an alternative to Kiln. I figured logically, a break in the island across a stretch of water over to a volcano made an amount of sense.
