The most likely reason is because those lobbies fill up instantaneously. If nothing occurs and you’re stuck at the starting menu, that’s how you know the game is full already

actually since the campfire autosaves and the mini run mode for custom runs seem to share some code i'm kind of curious whether or not something similar would happen too if you did a custom run with like. mini run biome 4 (caldera + kiln) with cold nights enabled

yeah i had this realization hours into the mesa climb in ascent 6, i didnt even beat it either ;-;

You can beat it on mesa too you just have to know how to conserve your lantern a lot more (and climb faster)

i made it to the kiln on ascent 6 today only to die badly a little bit over the halfway point mainly because i didn't have enough equipment going into it. on account of the evil and intimidating mesa

i wrote down some route notes for myself but like it's so hard to write anything meaningful for mesa because it's next-to-impossible to find any memorable landmarks to note down in the vertical section of mesa so you kinda just have to work with like. the general idea of what you remember

for something like shore you might have "really steep bridge" or "evil tripping hazard jellyfish" or "curved tree you can use as a foothold" and in roots you might have "really big tree" or "awesome parkour vine". i'm not sure if there's anything that'd immediately come to mind for you in mesa if you noted it down

or a luggage, dynamite that may spawn anything really

in my case i dont really need landmarks, i just memorize the terrain internally and when i cross by it my brain picks up on it and knows the next step

it's difficult to memorize mesa routes, when you play mesa enough you'll be more comfortable with the level generation and can make better guesses on what paths lead anywhere

you can get better at telling if a path leads to a dead end by looking at the amount of light coming in/how much the ceiling looks like it caves in, etc
