You have to ragdoll all the way up as soon as the cannon launches you out, you had a pause in between ragdolling which caused you to mess it up
Another thing I do is point my character's view towards the top of the hill to minimize the risk of spinning in a way that causes me to not make it up

Honestly faerie lantern has saved my ass a good couple of times so I think its pretty useful. Best use is if youre falling, dont have time to clutch a first aid kit, and turn it on right before you hit the bottom so it heals your damage while youre passed out.
