Roots is too overdesigned, you could cut it in half and make two biomes out of all of the mobs plants and gimmics. It feels completely different from the rest of the game in tone and vibes. other biomes (except mesa...) are a barren desert in comparison
while they're at it make mesa shorter. why does it feel so long, is it larger than alpine?

Ngl i would agree, but the mechanics are actually really well-designed (for the most part) compared to Mesa.
My only problem with Mesa is that all of its bloat is poorly designed. Roots is actually pretty fun.
It not having a "primary hazard" prevents it from feeling so overdesigned. Mesa's many hazards are questionable because they all make you ask, "the sun's already a problem, so why add this?" Roots has no sun or blizzard. It's just a ton of smaller hazards throughout. I think it works pretty well

Exactly. The biggest difference between Mesa and Roots is that Roots has dynamic hazards, while Mesa is very static. Even when dealing with something like tornados, there's always a single best option.

I have a thought about this update and I wanna know if anyone agrees with me: I think Roots is a fantastic biome, probably my fav... but I think it's actually the worst one to play on ascent 7, simply because its route options involve so much vertical climbing that a lot of paths are just entirely impossible on higher ascents.

that is very complex.
iirc, you begin taking fall damage once one of two things happen: You exceed the air time limit, or you exceed the velocity limit. Once one of those happens, fall damage rapidly (and i do mean rapidly. Like a quarter second difference can cause a 5-damage fall to become a 50-damage fall) increases

bounce shroom especially serves little to no purpose

you have to jump DOWN onto it to get any height and youll usually wind up lower than you were before
