With your backpack full of coconuts, you'll have 3 slots left free, I typically have 1 for climbing gear, 1 for food and 1 for food/healing

It's all down to skill at the end of the day, once you've got the basics down you'll be able to get to the first campfire without needing any items, but for your first time playing I think having the extra stamina from coconuts will be helpful for you
