NYC is so beautiful like that. You can go to parts in Brooklyn where everything is in Egyptian Arabic, etc

I found out that the rest of the U.S wasn't like that relatively recently. Like my ex girlfriend was from Massachusetts, and when we were walking around once, she was like, "what language is that guy speaking?" I was like, "oh he's Haitian." Like I just know what Haitian sounds like cuz I was exposed to it. She didn't even know what Haiti was, and her family was the same way. It's like, parts of America are closed off like that, I think? Idk. I've never left NYC in my life

I'm south Asian and latin, and whenever I tell people that, they call me weird things like exotic, or an "interesting mix." I think that it's because they perceive themselves as being "bland." Which is just weird. No one is "bland", everyone has culture. And focusing on me in such a way is just fetishization and racist. A lot of folks don't see it that way, but it is. It's a form of othering, and makes it seem like something is this distant, strange thing rather than just a normal aspect of life

sorry this might not be super helpful- but this is the route i thiiiink i took? at some point past the two white chests you have to dip into the cave and there's a little way up and thru. from there i can't remember exactly where it let out, but i mostly stayed center/right ish and it wasnt too bad from there on

If people break certain things it can be a very expensive fix, anything electrical we need to isolate the electricity and have nothing run there until the works are complete

Completely dependant on the job, it can be as small as a 5 man team or as big as 140 (truck drivers, excavators, on-foot workers, inspectors and so on)

If it's just an inspection job (making sure everything is running good) then it's a 4 man crew, if we're building a station or upgrading the track then 50-150

Oh, it depends how big the work crew is. You need to have 1 with each work crew, so if I'm with a crew here and there's another 400 metres down we need another person with that crew

i see, that sounds very interesting though, considering all i do for work is sit in front of the computer and type in characters

One will be the lead, who coordinates the safety- and the other will simply look after the 2nd work crew and confirm they're safe to the lead

It is a high stress and high intensity job, I'm the one that people ask for confirmation "can I proceed or stand aside"

Fail that, someone gets hit by a train, or an excavator swings into the way of a train

You get used to it- just gotta communicate and make certain that everyone knows 'ask me' no ifs or buts

There was a time where it was difficult due to my age, since I'm quite young there's a lot of old timers like "yeah nah I know better" so have had to kick some of those guys off site for disobedience, they were fairly warned and if left unchecked would cause a big incident
