Tip.

Burn yourself by the campfire, Heat and Cold dmg cannot co exist so having high heat dmg can be used as an advantage

Bring as many scorch berries as you can.

Lantern slowly warms you up and can be used as a buffer when trying to go for a safer hiding spot.

Faerie Lantern can be used to almost resist cold while braving through the snowstorm as it warms you up doubly faster than Lanterns but burns out faster as a result.

Heat packs are the best tho since you can ignore cold even the storms cold for a minute especially if you want to go fast.

night lasts for 200 seconds so the cold will cover 100% of your bar (or 97.5% but eh close enough)
if you're going to pass out and therefore not climb anywhere, drop your backpack because the weight will keep you passed out for longer if you are only just squeezing by
use the lantern to clear only just enough cold that the sun can clear out the rest so you save the fuel.
lantern lasts for 60 seconds and clears out 2.5% of your stamina bar (1 tick) worth of cold every second so 150% of your bar = 1 lantern

also it's too warm in caldera for there to be a night time so you don't need the lantern after mesalpspine

u can do multiple runs in one day but a single run can easily last 1.5 hours

if u mod the game u can get a diff map every run, even chose between mesa // alpine

I found head up to the right hand giant tree, then cross to the middle giant tree and it's fairly easy to cover the rest.

if you are fairly fast and running. a run can be done within an hour but with a squad, it tends to go half an hour, sometimes even almost 2 hours

It doesn't. They haven't released much publicly about how the maps are generated. But the generic algorithm is that they take a generic mountain (e.g. a cone) and throw rocks of varying shapes at it to make the map we see. With that strategy you get a statistical distribution of individual climbs. I would imagine that a lot of development went into how that generation worked to give a certain difficulty.
