I've been thinking: Should I practice climbing on Ascent 4 on a regular basis before attempting Ascent 6 solo? Get used to the weight penalties and needing to carry a flare whenever I go scouting and such

i would say that doing ascent 6 by itself is good practice

since ascent 6 increases the stamina usage, you might not reach places you were before

Several ppl use A4 as a baseline as flare is essential for everything above

It's just that I haven't beaten the game on A6 yet. I have done so with A5 but with people. A5's cold nights are what scare me the most. I wish I could deal with A6's climb penalty without cold nights

anyone got tips for alpines? i only started playing like a week ago and i came very close to beating it yesterday but fell when i was near the top of the kiln but i can only get that far on mesa cuz i find it easier than alpines

this is more of a personal experience thing than actual advice because i'm sure other people can manage them just fine: ive never been able to find a good route by going into the cave section of the alpines. i just go for the outsides

aside from that, you can grab scorchberries from the tropics prior for heat, and you can stand on portable cookers to warm yourself

best i can say for stamina conservation is (if youre doing a solo climb at least) is to not sleep on energy drinks. they help me a bunch

• don't be afraid to use the cold rocks! cold isn't hard to heal off, especially if you have your other statuses in check (hunger, damage, weight)
• check the caves if you can't find a path on the cliff face, but abandon it if you can't see the sky
• the bluer the ground, the safer it (usually) is from blizzards. also note where the blizzard particles are coming from: that tells you which wall sides will cover you
• don't give up if the blizzard KO's you; even solo you can usually wake back up again before the next one, even without any heat sources
• extra stamina helps so freaking much. cook everything before you get there
• if an item will get you there, use it! you'll probably find another in caldera anyway (<-- disregard this if you're going for leave no trace)

yes i think the new biome SHOULD be a priority but buffing caldera should come at some point

i saw an art concept for a bird which attacks players, if there would be a way to maneuver it or hide somewhere that could be cool

increasing the frequency and/or the area that exploding rocks cover could also work

posibly small lava spurts from the large lava lake that make certain ground areas temporarily hot?

im sure there could be more good gimmicks

maybe a hidden spider/scorpion thing so you have to watch where you step and climb

fake luggages like in the mesa (heat stroke halucination things since volcano hot)

there are a good amount of things that could work to buff it

fake luggages would kinda just be unnecessary since a lot of ppl wont care abt chests there since its a short biome, scorpion/spiders the caldera rocks are kinda tiny for that and you'd be trapped on a rock with one lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again; Caldera is more of a brief difficulty cooloff prior to the massive kick in the groin that is Kiln

It's the flat section prior to the GREAT CLIMB™ that you have to do to reach the next step; technically caldera and kiln are two halves of the same biome

the flat section of the three biomes prior are almost complete non issues, that Caldera has so much going for it is already a step up from the previous "flat" sections.

Eh, you still can only carry so much, plus I usually already have a full inventory of mostly useful items by the time I get past caldera; the surfeit of luggage makes little difference to me.

I might make a few substitutions with what I'm already carrying, and enjoy a snack or two, but I leave a lot of that stuff behind
