Yes, well kinda. You need to use it after you got hit. But you can start the cycle of using it while you fall

Tbh, if you go fast, you should finish shore before night sets so you burn yourself off the campfire for almost full bar starting tropics at night then you should pass tropics around just before nightfall again which you can burn yourself again on the campfire for the alpines/mesa

you do it on Shore, you grab the disc, go to a little elevated ground, throw the disc into the ocean as far as you can, and then you retrieve it
once you grab it, achievement is yours

Question!! For the "Leave No Trace" badge, do scout cannons count? I did a run earlier today, used NO items listed on the wiki but did use a scout cannon for a different achievement. I only now have realized I never got the achievement and I'm confused (I also had to use a pickaxe in the Mesa but I didnt put it down so I have doubts that could have caused my issue)

You really just need to know the route and get lucky a couple times with items. If you get a lollipop, you can often shave off an entire minute if you know the map well enough

Both are required for sub-30.
I recommend resetting until you get an energy drink at the start. Try to use them at the start of levels when you have a lot of flat ground. Otherwise, try to pair them with lollipops for maximum effect.

I like both, they have different flavours. The Mesa is slow cook, Alpine is flash freeze. Geysers and blizzard mistakes to die in a FLASH before you even realise you're dead.
... then mesa where youll realise you're dead three days in and you won't make another day without scraping your way to some dynamite and a scorpion

I agree, the 'im going to get inside the alpine mountain so I'm not climbing outside in blizzards' strategy seems to do ok to really ease the risk
