That being said, they're just different graphic APIs. DX12 tends to work best on windows but its just dependent on your hardware/graphics drivers etc. If you're having bugs or graphics issues on one, try swapping to the other ! :)

Tenderfoot: There is no timer (fog). Hunger builds slower. Climbing takes less stamina, you do not get a new sash for peaking

Base difficulty: Fog will start to rise at a certain height on each biome, you need to light the campfire to stop it. It will inflict frost effect if it reaches you. After lighting Alpines campfire there is no more fog, you do not get a new sash for peaking

Ascent 1: ||increased fall damage, you get green sash for peaking||
Ascent 2: ||hunger builds faster, you get black sash for peaking||
Ascent 3: ||items weigh more, you get brown sash for peaking||

Yeah that'd do it, you don't NEED to play his bugle, you just need to break rule 0 OR play his bugle. He'll also only attack the person who DID play it, not just any random player

Audio not working is a common bug. Rejoin / restart, verify file integrity, make sure you're using same launch option (vulkan v dx12), or try uninstalling re-installing as a last resort

Photon issues would be connection issues, that one is complicated not sure how to fix, I'd just try the same steps above and also make sure whoever is hosting has good connection themselves

Ok, so why is this game cooking my PC? I've never had this problem with any other game. Ever.

I have to change my FPS cap when I log in every time or it cooks my GPU. I can set it back to the value it was at but it runs 10c cooler after I mess with the FPS counter specifically.

I was playing for maybe 1.5 hours and suddenly my CPU cooler is flashing red and I'm getting an alert that my CPU is throttling because it's reached max temp.

Has anyone else had this issue? I run a 12700k with a 3080. I know Intel CPUs get hot but no game has gotten it even remotely this hot.

This is good to know. I know these intel CPUs get hot and I can make it max out if I torture test it, but during any gaming session, I don't see it get about 80c. And that's the spiking temp. Normal temps sit around 70-75c.

But, yeah. Until I play with the FPS cap slider, it throttles my GPU within like a minute of opening the game.

vsync syncronises frame rate to match the refresh rate of your monitor, personally i find it doesnt make a huge difference for games like this (I only enable it for FPS games etc) but ppl have found that if you change that option (to whichever it isnt) while in fullscreen, it brings your cursor back

i dont think thats a good idea, caldera is challenging in its own way without having another time-related threat, picking the right rocks to stand on that wont go up in flames/staying too long risks that happening to you is already enough. on top of that, the area forces you to wait at times for the lava to rise and fall again. ive gone up in flames trying to wait for that to happen about as frequently as i get caught racing against/stuck in the fog

big agree. the creatures are super fun, and i think the bird threat in the caldera wouldnt be too far off. i think the route id take is introducing another source of food thats a little easier to get and doesn't feed for as much, and making the eggs something more like the beehive where you have to face an angry mama bird if you want to get those good good eggs

impossible and difficult are two different things. difficulty's fine, the concern is that procedural generation without the right parameters could prolly lead to stuff that players literally can't complete in-game no matter how good they are.

Yeah, even though it's procedural generation, the seeds are still "approved" which is probably for the best when you think about the opposite option which is a procedural generation that creates unplayable maps

when i did naturalist i doubled up with gourmand and found a route that got me all the items for it, having honeycombs and a cooked yellow winterberry helped a lot with the lack of extra stam from packaged food and stuff.
