Realistically Kiln does need some sort of item to complete. Technically it can be done without, but items let you skip some very challenging holds and jumps, especially as hunger creeps in.

You can join back but you spawn at the last campfire and also there’s a bug that seems pretty huge that prevents you from actually playing when you rejoin
