I don't think new players should value reserve to begin with tbh. You throw it out once you get better anyway, so it's better to rely on items/tech than reserve. You'll get farther faster both per game and in terms of skill progression
Imo it's a crutch for new players, not something to be valued.

For that reason, it's good to have some, but the honeycomb player insinuated that a large burst of reserve is good because it's a large burst of reserve (otherwise they'd say cookies are the best). In those scenarios, tech or tools are always better even for new players. A large amount of reserve for a large climb is much harder to gauge

Pitons? No. If you're newer, keep one on-hand as a failsafe. Other tools absolutely, especially rope spool. (#1422440710480728105 message here's why)
Though for the most part, keep food when you can.
Try to have a total of 100 hunger reduction in food at any moment. That gives you a lot of room for mistakes
Once you get better, you'll get comfortable with little to none though. That's when you can replace food with tools to go faster

it might depend? i don't think it's at all uncommon for furries to not be with another furry, or simply have a partner that supports them but doesn't personally do it, there'd only be competition if furries ONLY dated within their community but some people might have more luck/live somewhere with more people who are accepting
