If you find the only option is to use a tool to get up before Kiln, there is almost always a better path. Alpine is probably the hardest to find since the color scheme is nearly monochrome blue. The tricky part is that the game wants you to have to go out of your comfort zone and climb around rocks you can not directly see often.
