tropics tends to be one of the harder biomes for new players. the best way to navigate the tropics is to avoid any smooth walls and take some time to scout out paths while you're at the bottom of the mountain. tropics tends to be filled with food so your time limit is the fog, which takes a decent amount of time to catch up.

lastly, check for vines that lead to new areas, don't feel afraid to climb on the giant trees (they can often lead you upwards to better areas), and when you see thornless brambles, don't be afraid to use them to traverse
(As a general tip, don't feel bad for retracing your steps or going downwards, the path in the tropics might not be obvious so it's okay to go down and look for a better path if you're stuck)

I actually rather prefer the mesa's mountain generation style. climbing through the caverns of the mesa is generally not as terrible as climbing the insides of the alpines, which tend to be filled with ice

they both have their ups and downs, though I personally find the Mesa ultimately easier for Ascent 4 and below runs, and Alpines easier for Ascent 5 and above runs
