Project Zomboid will start minimized and i haven't found a way around it if i try to tab in zomboid immediately crashes but it will boot to the main menu and if im fast i can hover the menu options for a moment before it crashes but more importantly ** project zomboid crashing causes steam to break** after it crashes attempting to full screen or resize steam doesn't work it just makes the new segments black i have to fully close steam then restart my computer to get it to work again i theorize that zomboid crashing is once more causing a problem with my drivers or wayland/X11 im unsure

specs:
GPU: GTX 1050 TI
CPU: AMD A6-3620
20GB DDR 3 RAM
Drivers: Nvidia Proprietary 580.126.18 drivers
OS: Linux Pop!_OS 24.04 (Ubuntu based)

currently no mods i also deleted default.txt to see if it would help which it didn't.
I don't recall how many logs are in the .zip but some of them may be from the previous version

Can you share all “hs_err_pid” files found in your main game folder “Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid”?

The logs still seem to imply graphical issues, possibly with the drivers you have. Are you on the latest available drivers?

#

And additionally, how do you have Steam itself installed? Flatpak?

here is a screenshot from running nvidia-smi

#

okay it would appear im not on the absolute latest drivers so i can try that

#

the most recent are 595

Just to check if its a fullscreen only issue

rose gust
#

can i do that without the game being open?

#

which file would i be looking for

coral mist
#

Home\Zomboid folder and edit the options.ini file with a text editor.
In that file, edit the fullscreen=true line to fullscreen=false

rose gust
#

it started up this time and didn't crash but i also didn't try to actually get in game i also changed the size to be larger without fullscreen to see if that would do anything which it didnlt

#

also worth noting this run hasn't caused any external issues which confirms that, that was being caused from the game crashing

Interesting, try testing Borderless mode as well?

rose gust
#

i can do that real quick

#

i'll edit the option file to set it to borderless

#

i assume the lag i was experiencing was from my drivers being corrupted

#

the game actually never shut down it was just a black window and it generated a log

I have a Nvidia Linux PC for testing as well and have no issues running the game there, so I am not sure if your specific driver you use has issues, or if it is Distro specific

#

I use Wayland as well

rose gust
#

I suppose I can try updating my drivers

okay so this is getting rather concerning if this is all caused by project zomboid and if it is a coincidence it is a awfully poorly timed one after the testing yesterday steam simply did not function at all in any capacity it opened in the background but no way to launch games or any menus or anything the only thing i could do i exit steam after a series of investigations into what was going on it would appear that project zomboid crashing hard coded a gpu blacklist into steams launch flags meaning i could not use steam at all until i purged all its files and reinstalled if this was truly caused by project zomboid then this is a incredibly massive and highly concerning bug

Meaning you are looking at it from the opposite side

Have you tried running PZ after you purged all the Steam flags?
