was thinking about the following in concept:
gallant cossette gt, includes custom livery, spoiler than affects the actual grip in game(i.e +20% to handling) and a hp rating of 770 vs the 570 on the standard cossette. But it’s going to be set on a range of rarity, but as a baseline 10x rarity of standard cossette.
It would also always come with the performance brakes, suspension, and tires.
Similar to the Calloway corvettes irl

Nah, I don't think Zomboid will have that. like Orangutanion said, they are pretty locked in at the core especially with the original Dev team (and the modders I'm sure)

the biggest problem zomboid will have will be the same problem it's already had: feature creep
shrug not at all man, I love this game and I refer to it as the defacto Zombie Game. I think it's reasonable to voice concerns especially in a place dev teams can see it as long as it's in a respectful manner. It's not quite feedback, but it's also not really non-constructive. I hope that makes sense
when the devs get sidetracked on some feature that was not the intended goal of the update and then they push the original goals down the pipeline
if there are new people added to the team, I could see this happening even more if not managed properly lol

I joined for multiplayer in B41, played it a bit, and then suddenly B42 came out and I got hooked. I am in that new crowd.
but for most of the time I've played it has been just a single player game anyways
due to almost exclusively having played b42
I guess the one saving grace for now is the strong modding community
So even if (god forbid) the devs screw it up somehow there are ways to make fixes

Thing about this though, is you have your core dev team working on the main aspects of the game, people who don't have an assigned task will likely tinker on their internal projects until needed. A good example, and I use it a lot, is the fire rework. It has been talked about and videos have been shown since 2020. But Yuri, the dev behind the rework, also has a lot of experience with multiplayer, so that is what they are focused on. I feel like some things that could be seen as feature creep might actually just be passion projects that they were able to get approved and slip in.

Considering its game designer has already played 5k hours both playing and modding in total it suggests they hired someone who listens clearly to chatter and adds mods that people want. Go look up their modding name on the workshop

Thats fair. They got Fillibuster Rhymes in now too so someone who knows how to mod cars so maybe it means a larger rework is planned alongside what they did in their mod in the official art style. We will have to wait and see what happens.

Having the person who helped to get animals into the game as the main gameplay lead makes sense for B43 development as that is occurring alongside other people working towards stuff for B42.

Well thats years away and is related to so many other changes and developments that being concerned with that is niave at this time. The structure is still being built for it. That is why the whole ragdoll physics person becoming the technical lead to work on fixing up and standardising the older segments of the game makes perfect sense as it helps the rest of the team not just modders. It works for everyone to have someone leading that effort.

To realistically implement multi-level ramps and advanced vehicle interactions in B43, the vehicles will require a more accurate collision model rather than the current primitive block-based system. The existing physics framework is insufficient for handling complex ramp geometries and high-speed vehicle dynamics. Additionally, the entire vehicle driving simulation will need to be rewritten to address underlying physics issues; particularly with impulse and torque scaling, which are currently misrepresented, as well as vehicle weights, which are highly inaccurate in the current simulation. Once these foundational improvements are finished, advanced features like multi-level ramps and realistic vehicle behavior can be properly realized.
Thank you for that information. Sounds like something a complete overhaul would potentially aim towards and would resolve the towing bugs that people keep reporting at the moment too.
Shouldn't the ramps have more tiles for a smooth entrance and exit for things like parking garages where it's not being used as a monster truck ramp lol

Going over 65 results in crashing and slowing down when entering the ramp
I think there is a potential issue with the devs there due to how cars are currently set to only use the base ground floor z level as well at the moment.
So that is why its one large block. (I can be entirely wrong here)
You are correct, adding more tiles to ramps would definitely help create smoother transitions, especially for everyday vehicle use like parking garages. My previous comment was focused on the deeper physics limitations in the current implementation, which affect how vehicles handle any ramp, regardless of tile count. Even with extra tiles, the current collision model and physics system would still cause unrealistic behavior at high speeds or on complex geometries. Once the underlying vehicle physics and collision model are improved, we can both implement smoother ramps and ensure they behave realistically for all vehicle types.
I presume this is something someone is investigating already if not working towards? In terms of this rework
I also guess that its not on the highest priority but somewhat high due to the behaviour issues of trailers and its likely linked to this fundamental issue with the torque and such.
During preliminary work on implementing ragdolls, I investigated the vehicle physics and uncovered some underlying issues. My initial hope was that simply adjusting vehicle weights to be physically accurate would be enough to maintain stable interactions with the ragdoll system. Unfortunately, achieving this requires a full overhaul of the vehicle driving and handling logic. This is not a trivial task, so it is currently planned as a post-B42 effort.
That makes sense. I wish you luck when it begins. I hope your hair doesnt get pulled out too much when it gets into the nitty gritty math formulas not working at some tests when trying to redo it 😆 .

Would this idea of ramps only be for cars? (e.g. parking lots) or would it also be used for gradual elevation/gradual declines? (e.g. near the Ohio river or other rivers, some mountains, etc...).
Design and tech leads will not be able to make a call on this until the underlying technology is in place. There are numerous systems and decisions that need to be tested before introducing any new 3D world geometry to the game.

I think I speak for the entire community when I say that this is exactly the type of info that so many of us missed since Thursdoids were paused. Even better one could argue, since this is a Q&A of sorts. Thank you, it's awesome to get to read these behind the scenes. Doesn't matter one bit if it ends up making it into the game or not. We all understand that current unknowns and challenges may not make this or that doable. But knowing what you guys are thinking and experimenting on about the future of specific areas of the game we all love is just invaluable.

Honestly, tempting
To break kayfabe, I'm plenty patient for the update. Having a focus on longer-term survival is fantastic, and I am overjoyed at there being actual blacksmithing mechanics in vanilla, even if it is a bid strange that I need to be almost a master blacksmith to put some metal on a stick. I do not mean to begrudge the modders who worked on something similar for B41, but having something be vanilla does mean a lot less potential conflicting issues with other mods. I tend to play with mods that either allow me some measure of self-reliance (Immersive Solar Arrays by Poltergeist ftw, with shitty 90's charge rates) or alters the gameplay completely, like Roxanne's SCP-001 "When Day Breaks" mod, depending on how I want a story to go. The Dev's have the right idea focusing on player's interactivity with the world, which may lead into more diverse stories than the inevitable "huddle in a dark room with cabbages and fish and a mountain of hammers in a dying, silent world" in B41. There being, possibly, a tribe of players who've had a viable build of shunning technology and living in the woods is something I think would be so fun for RP.

FINALLY HIRING MORE PEOPLE, the game's development has been going at a snail's pace and considering its scale, it'll finally it speed up, so glad about it
Feel like you are ignoring B42 has been pretty good in pace for updates, as stated in the blog. Only has one larger drought and that was due to summer break, and now there is a focus on MP.

an overly ambitious goal for a group of 2-4 people at first, thats why I was very glad to see the team gaining many more employees and seeing actual growth recently, the scope does ask for it does it not? or else we'll all be 70 years old by the time it hits 1.0 (hyperbole on purpose)
I'd hate for excessively long development periods to become normalised and see the case of PZ and Star Citizen and whatever else takes decades to finish, be an okay standard
I think overly ambitious isn't really right. They knew this would be a long process, so its taken time to cook. But no dlcs, no in game currencies, just one solid purchase, and a very good modding community that would, even if they stopped development at B42, would keep the game going for years, means that stomaching the time and purchase is a lot easier.
I agree, but PZ is a passion for the team from what I've seen, so they don't just sit on their asses all day wasting time like you might see at larger companies pumping out only skins and money pots for profit because the higher ups said so.

Only things missing from B42 that I think (could be wrong) they said were going to be added are: MP, Bowery, Brewery, Post-Apoc Professions/Skill Leveling Rework. But I think MP is the only goal for stable, then afterwards some 42.?? updates will add the missing stuff.
We should also mention fhat the scope of things being added and planned for updates expanded with more sucsess and devs being added to the team.
I agree, but I think that the time taken to develop the game is both worrying on some days, but going glass half full shows more than they are committed to deliver, even if they have no real obligation to do so. Some people in the PZ community misinterpret early access as a guarentee for future updates, but its not there. They do this for their passion and respect of us to deliver.

I am a new gen on this community (B41 Stable), but I looked back and modders getting hired to improve specific parts of the game has always been a thing, so Filibuster being picked is just comfirming they aren't being absent-minded in hiring.
well when an EA titles goes to EA and gives a sort of roadmap, it is expected by the players to deliver on these promises, they purchase and engage with its EA state to support it and give it the feedback/money in order for it to deliver on the aformentioned updates
Expected yes, but I meant more that the devs could decide they are done with PZ, sick of it, and move on. But the fact they haven't branched off, started doing 2 games at once or completely abandoned PZ after 13+ years shows dedication and passion, which makes me and many others excited and refreshed to see that in gaming.
Also, on a more joke note, I can imagine the older devs are getting somewhat sick of it, but they clearly want to fill out up to that B48 possible full release roadmap before going onto something else.

I think that you are underestimating how many projects, whether it be on roblox, steam, fortnite, minecraft, etc get abandoned even with roadmaps, leaving many sitting on whatever is left. Ridiculous is right, but unfortunately not super uncommon in gaming or even any creative art form in life.

I am a fan of Hytale. At this point, my only hope is for the original owner to buy it back off of riot games. I waited from 2017, and was absolutely gutted when they were cancelling it this year.
I would put it this way: If I never get to play it, will I be forever effected? No. But the promise was always there, sitting there for it to be delivered. So I understand completely what long development can do. But PZ is released. I can play it today and enjoy it. My hours say that I have. So I would take another 13 years of playing than 13 years of waiting.
I don't fully agree with that. Many Players don't buy the game just because they want to see it reach 1.0 they want to actually play the game even in an unfinished state.
If the studio said "we're out of money sorry." Many current players already got hundreds of hours for a good price.

Yeah, there is definitely some strange expectations put on EA titles. Steam is very clear that when you buy an EA title you buy it in its current state, which is why most EA titles release at a lower price point than a 1.0 release.
I don't think it can be argued that PZ in its current state isn't a "full game", well worth the price tag. And it always baffles me that people complain that we're still adding more to the game. Like, yes, it's not done, but the only reason it's not done is because we decided we wanted to keep adding more. We could have stopped, released 1.0 back with B38, or hell even earlier, and that would have been that. The 1.0 tag is completely arbitrary.
Yeah, updates can be slow, there are several reasons for that, but it always baffles me when people complain that the game won't be finished until they're 70/grandparents/dead/etc. Like, why is that a bad thing? Why is it bad for a game to keep adding content for you at no extra cost until you're 70?
If you release 1.0, I will light my copy of the game on fire out of protest. Change scares me, and thus is bad.

The main reasons why updates are "slow" is because 1: we don't crunch and never will, and 2: Project Zomboid is just an incredibly complicated game. There are just so many fine details that so many people just take for granted. It's an incredibly ambitious game, and it's those fine details that makes it as good as it is
That's fair, and obviously I don't understand the complex nuances that go into developing a game like zomboid. I just see what other games are able to put out in a much smaller time frame and use that as a point of reference for why I believe the updates take too long to come out.

There's a common saying in software dev. What 1 dev can do in 1 hour, 2 devs can do in 2 hours. There's a real "too many cooks in the kitchen" issue, but that's not what I was alluding to here. We are hiring more people, and that allows us to work on more features simultaneously which can increase the frequency of updates, but the problem isn't "we need more money to hire", we have the money, it's a matter of finding the right talent. We've picked up some of that talent now to help, but yeah, having DLC isn't going to help.
Yeah look at what happened with Manor Lords guy, he expanded hugely and had his team working on all different things at the same time and it became a spaghetti mess they had to unravel
Yeah. The more people you hire the more overhead and project management that goes on. Keeping teams small is definitely ideal from an efficiency standpoint, but finding that sweet spot is difficult

The animals are really complex too not just bits that walk in circles. They have full on genomes with dominant and recessive traits that determine their personality and stats, and can mutate rarely

I’m not an expert but yeah but Pz is mostly 2D and only very limited objects are actually 3D. It’s a custom engine that wasn’t originally made with physics in mind. Most games nowadays are built in engines that already have sophisticated physics simulations built in. So they need to accurate model both how the physics works but how to represent it in a world that is mostly 2D.
Then with MP you need clients and the server to agree on where those fast moving objects are in that 3D space so that when it potentially hits a player it feels right. Most games with all this stuff already built in have issued here if your connection is slow etc.
Is just speculation I’m sure it’s a different reason to be honest lol.
most of the tiles are 2d, only cars, avatars, zombies and item models (when put on the ground or held) are 3d
so its not completely impossible to just add a flying 3d object, but i assume they want it in a balanced way so it arcs down after a while instead of you toss that thing and it just surrounds the earth a few times

would be nice if the annotated maps were like 80% or so localised to the area you're in and maybe 20% or something of a different area.
Maybe ones found in cars have a higher chance of being from a different area 😅

Bridge the time with other games or try out different mods but let them cook.
Honestly I just enjoyed the lil written updates to read. The lil goofs they add and how excited you can tell they are. Fun read.

Correct. Thursdoids are temporarily paused because currently the amount of effort they take would slow down development, the type of updates you would get would be less exciting because it's a lot of polish (which unfortunately takes a lot of time in development) rather than exciting new features, and patch notes do a lot of the talking already. Thursdoids returning is something we are keeping in mind at all times though, and we look forward to them returning

yeah I remember when I was living in Canada I had literally 0 holiday, they just paid out the legal requirement of 4% (or 2 weeks) per year, and that was it. Was expected to work every day. Moving to the UK is was a drastic shift where you're forced to not work lol. As much as I complain about it here, they do labour laws right

Canada has shit worker rights. It depends on what province you live in, but yeah, you can be terminated with no reason given, and 2 weeks holiday, that your employer doesn't even need to allow you to take (they can just pay the value of it out instead). It's pretty nuts. 28 days in the UK is the mandatory minimum, and most employers offer more than that.
