I'm starting a new small/medium side project - Bandit Creator.

I will be basically an UI to customize the look of bandits in every detail. You will also designate your own clans and customize each member.

The level of customization will let you choose physical appearance (skin color, gender, hair, beard, hair color etc), select individual clothes for each part of the body. Assign weapons and carried loot. You will be able to select items and clothes form vanilla or other loaded mods.

Configuration of clans and bandits will save into a file that can be shared with other players but also exported to Lua as a mod that others players can subscribe to to load your configuration. The tool can also be used to export clothing to xml which is a use case for those who just want to make outfits, not particularly for bandits. In multiplayer, the configuration on the server will propagate to clients, this way server will decide how the bandits look for every player.

Finally you will be able to die from hands of a well customized bandit!

I can finally customize various bandit forces in PZ,

Such as the Louisville Brotherhood, the New West Point Republic, the March Ridge Legion and the terrifying Raccoon National Liberation Front (RNLF)

So the Bandit Creator will come with additional changes to Bandits itself allowing non-magazine weapons to be carried with bandits. You can see here that they can now use rifles without clips and shotguns. Revolvers work too. Too bad Indie Stone did not allow modders (yet?) to use bullet particles.

yes, you can add new clans or edit or enhance existing ones with new members. When you edit creator automatically detect all items available from all loaded mods, that includes clothing, weapons etc.If you unload the required mods, that creations using that mods are hidden from editing and spawning

Ok so here is the deal. Right now bandits use a standard spawn system that is based on outfits.Whenever i spawn civilians in week one or bandits in bandits it's the same system. In this system you cannot change any the clothing after spawn - it's fixed. Bandit creator is a new system - it spawns naked people and dresses them in each single item. Those system can coexist together for some time but i will be replacing the old system with new one. But that means i have to make hundreds of configurations for new system

Also I haven't yet figured out how to connect it with the wave spawning system that defines rules for 16 fixed clans. Naturally people will create more new clans and that has to plugged somehow into this. But its more probable that the wave config will be removed and replaced with something else

the idea of this mod opens doors for couple of possibilities:

  • players can simply customize their own bandits for themselves
  • server admins can customize bandits for their server and all people who join
  • customized bandits can be saved into another mod, this way you can share your configurations with others
  • the new clothing system will allow some new features like a bandit during rain will automatically put on the coat for example

Here is some info for modding. You do not need programming skills, just basic knowledge about PZ mod structure.

Bandit Creator integrates with other mods in two ways.

  1. First group are mods that provide with clothing and weapon items that bandits may be customized with. You can use any item from external mods of your liking to customize your Bandits.

  2. Second group are mods that store bandit configuration you have created. Bandits mod loads all configuration files from all mods it can find. By default, bandit configuration saves in Bandits mod. But you can create bandit profiles and mark them to be saved as part of another mod.

So here is how it works in practice:

  1. You create a new empty mod with standard folder setup. In mod.info you need to list mods requirements that you will be using to customize your Bandits. This makes sure that the person that will use your new mod will also load the dependent mods that are needed.

  2. In common folder of your mod you create bandits folder. This tells the Bandit Creator that your mod is ready to store bandit configuration.

  3. Start the game and enable Bandits, your mod and other mods you want to use. Start Bandit Creator and start creating a new clan and one bandit. From the dropbox, set the bandit to save in your mod, not Bandits mod. You will notice that new configuration files were created in common/bandits folder.

  4. Your mod is ready to be shared.

Note that your mod can add bandits to your clans or add or change bandits in existing clans of Bandits mod or other mods. If there are duplicates, mod load order will determine which configuration has priority.

I saw that when you shoot bandits the limb/body roll that is supposed to roll to calculate where the bandit was damaged never happens, just like their bandaging section, and when shooting the player, bullets can go through certain new vanilla bulletproof armor

@rancid fable can I create new NPCs within existing classes like police or military, or do I have to edit the pre-existing npcs. Also there's some NPCs I can't click on so idk

it seems the assets still need time to load, its best to wait half a minute before using the creator after game start

Everything was fine when I disabled the mod.

Also when you try to click on certain guns while in the Bandits Creator using this mod, the guns are either missing parts, or do not show up at all.

I switched to B41 recently, and after switching back, all the Bandits were set to default
