WARNING: FLASHING SCREEN

Never seen anything like that in b41, at the same time game manages to fill 8GB of VRAM (not ram) regardless of Texture Compression setting.
Glitches go away in less than a minute.

3060ti nvidia proprietary latest version (565.77)

We are aware of the issue at the moment and are gathering more info

will send in a bit, doing a fresh install just in case

# burnt dagger Could you share a screenshot of your system monitor using the VRAM + your RAM us...

Game is offset to use only cores 0-7, the rest of the system/apps are on cores 8-15.
Screenshots are chronological.
PMEM reports process RAM usage.

Only other performance issue I notice apart from having no free VRAM for the system itself appears while driving: even though the frametime graph is smooth the "2D" part of the game looks choppy.
Performance with 500 zombies in the field of view seems to be on par with b41.

CPU is 5800X3D
Wayland if that matters.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Ah I see it now, yes it does use basically all your RAM

minor dune
#

nah i have 64gb

burnt dagger
#

Hmm, my mistake, that is unusual then

minor dune
#

ram usage seems fine and on par with b41

#

my desktop with apps use up to 3gb of VRAM, b41 with texture compression would add 1-2gb to that, without texture compression and with mods it could go to full 8gb

i have 4k screen and game only runs at 4k

Hm, what distro are you on?

Thanks for the info, there should be a hotfix planned in the coming days looking into similar graphical issues, your issue should also be included in that fix from what I can tell

#

If it still happens after the hotfix, I suggest making a thread again, you can even link this thread to the new one

#

So I can recheck it

#

I would also suggest sharing the logs.zip file from the Home/Zomboid folder as well in the meantime

Update as of 42.0.1:

  • Linux native version - visual artifacts disappear completely after like a minute
  • Linux proton version - visual artifacts persist
  • Running game with Zink (OpenGL to Vulkan translation layer) - no visual artifacts at all
  • VRAM situation got better, it is not filled instantly the moment you get into the game, but game still can eat over 5gb of VRAM, by contrast even modded b41 barely goes above 2gb

Somewhat related to this issue is that with Nvidia on Linux there is no working shared video memory for consumer GPUs (thanks Jensen), this means that screen freezes the moment VRAM hits the maximum, this though never happened with me before with any game, this includes playing Elden Ring at 4k, so I guess this comes down to how well the software can manage available VRAM

I also updated my bug reports in the Modding Report thread

  1. #1318920979581501502 message
  2. #1318920979581501502 message

logs.zip contains the run of the game where screen froze. Texture Compression is enabled. Game started at ~4gb vram usage in Muldraugh and reached ~5gb of vram in the middle of Luisville.
Let me know if I need to migrate all my reports to the forum.

Thanks.
