#Build 42 Unstable Out Now
1 messages ยท Page 14 of 1

I want this ^^^
TIS act as if vehicles in the 90s US weren't primarily made out of steel ๐ญ
feels like they're made out of cheap plastic
90s vehicles were way more durable and solid lol
they were made outta quarter inch steel and shit
human bones and muscle might as well be tissue paper to that

unless you ramming zombies at 60+ they aint gonna do much
a true tank would literally not give a single shit nor would a bulldozer
definitely, but the issue with that is how all the energy is transferred to the soft passengers inside during collisions ๐
seatbelts + massive weight of car = zombie goes flying
so they could make cars more durable but make players take more damage from hard impacts
I might be wrong but I thought armored cars were in the plans for b42?
thats one thing i wish this game had, zombies going ragdoll and flying when you hit them
we got scrap armor&weapons so armored cars wouldn't be too far fetched no?
instead of instantly falling under it actually going physics mode and getting knocked far away
they once showed a prototype for vehicle up-armoring but they really would need to do it like standardized vehicle upgrades does it
armor should soak up ALL the damage for that part until the armor breaks off, none of this percentage shit
90s US pickup trucks with tall bumpers wouldn't give a fuck either
but I do see why they still take a lotta damage, balance
prolly to avoid cheese tactics with backup up in circles etc.
just have zombie bodies make wheels start losing traction
like your car can get stuck spinning loosely in guts and stuff
for some vehicles esp tall trucks zombies just would not be able to get at you
the zombies would not know how to climb up the step with the handles and they def arent clawing through the steel panels of doors and body frame
driving back from louisville shelter with 30 dogs and cats in your car
and trunk piled full of kibble
Lmao
cats would be rather safe from zombies really unless they're old and sick
zombies ain't catching no damned cat lmao
fast sprinting humans can largely not catch them
bring back authentic z already
I know LV is bad but how bad is the population in march ridge and west point?
i needs the provocative outfit drip
I need em backpack upgrades pronto!
They're not compatible with Fili's animation update ๐ญ
thats why i didnt bother with that shit
ill take car armor over animations on them every day of week
which is why i really hope they add car armoring to vanilla... Hell. go all out
let us build new vehicles from salvaged scrap lol, half life 2 buggy ass type hsit
horse drawn carriages
the original self driving car lmao
slap its ass and itll pull you home
exploring buildings after electricity shutoff is almost impossible as sunlight improperly penetrates buildings
no but like horses in general tho
any way to mod this?
the flashlight necessity is def way overblown
like sure for deep interior rooms and such and big buildings they will be dark however for places with windows and stuff youll be able to navigate inside fine irl
sunlight shouldnt stop 20 feet after meeting a window yes
i cant find any setting that changes this in sandbox though
is there a way to mod this in the game files?
I think at some point they will add it, but if they do I want it to be really costly, not easy to do.
i dont see how slapping a chunk of metal on your car will make it less vulnerable to collisions
you would have to replace the actual bodywork with less deformable material
but then you would suffer more injuries in the event of a collision
90s cars had extremely thick solid heavy frames
its the outer paneling that would be taking the most of it and you could shield that with thicker plates and bars
human bodies... are not very durable in machine terms
something like a snow plow would shove zombies out of the way pretty handily tho it wouldnt kill them
MOVE BITCH GET OUT THE WAY
cars in the 90s were already pretty crumpable but i guess rural kentucky had a lot 1970s and 1980s models on the road
there would def be more solid cars on road also how much frame damage do you expect a weakened rotting human body to do esp at lower speeds
irregardless colliding with objects weighing between 70 - 100 kg will do damage
either to the car or to whats inside it
at 30 mph and below with armor i wouldnt expect a zombie not make noticable differience
also seatbelts would def come in clutch
the real godsend tho would be real military vehicles and tanks
30mph is enough to die in "sturdy" cars though
fort knox is a tank base
thats the flip side of the coin, medical handbooks are filled with stories of ppl dying at 35mph
by all logic there would be tanks around knox county because they are even mentioned in the radio as being present
because cars were so sturdy
and a tank would not noticably change speed at all hitting a human
we'd be like a tiny bump in dirt if anything
M1A1 abrams need helicopter fuel, would there be other models deployed that can use conventional gas?
ah my bad, its just some trivia some dude told me
thing about abrams engine is its literally a jet engine
so Fixing it would stump most car mechanics
right
tbh a tank is impractical enough to be in game, if everything is modeled correctly
so id have real tanks like that need a lot of matinence notably changing air filters and shit
its not something you will want to drive long distances but to kill a bunch of zombies and stuff
i assume the noise is also substantially higher than even the loudest car
there are lighter miltiary vehicles that ar emore practical
honestly not super an abrams is about as loud as a big semi truck
not quiet by any means but not heard for miles
the noise being high pitched jet roar muffled inside a steel box helps with that
high pitched noises dont travel as far
yeah and are less detectable to the human ear
now some things to keep in mind about weaponry... Tanks usually carry legitimate thousands of rounds for their machine guns. T H O U S A ND S.
a military base would quite literally have millions of bullets in stockpile
more than your survivor could ever use
i do really think some places should have much more loot than seen ingame
would tanks deployed for riot control have a full complement of ammo?
oh by the end they weren't there for riot control...
the military knew, they shot a bunch of people already from what we're told, they knew the infected were hostile
yeah sure but the response to the knox incident would likely be very ad hoc
well perhaps the ones out on patrol migth be mostly out of ammo
its not like theyre invading iraq
hell, if you got there soon enough you'd probably find tanks surrounded by zombies with still-living crew trapped inside
if you managed to rescue them and add them to your npc group they'd know how to fix and operate the tank
sounds like some baller characters to me
but like you said long term usage would be difficult, theres parts like the treads than cant exactly be fixed with autozone loot
Seems like it might be Build 43 for them as it will likely require behaviour trees which is the backbone for human NPCs to get added.
i mainly think best bet would be going to fort knox where they are undoubtably tanks still there and spare parts
besides that you could cannibalize the other tanks for parts to just keep one or 2 running, if you roll up to an enemy survivors base and point the turret at them i think they'll surrender
if not immediately certainly after the first 120mm HEAT round blows up one of their houses
russian ukrainian war rp
abrams don't have normal HE only APFSDS HEAT and Canister
CANISTER WOULD BE SO GODLY IN THIS GAME giant tank shotgun shell with insanely high velocity swarm of bullets
normal 12 gague BBs clock in at like.. 800 feet per second, mmkay? Abrams BBs which are bigger and heavier and much more numerous clock in at 5000 FPS
one or 2 shots of that will eradicate entire hordes
well the cannon is much longer than a shotgun's lol
and it has 30 pounds of gunpowder behind it
a tank summed up as a giant shotgun on tracks is a funny image
also keep in mind one person cannot run the whole thing at once
if you were doing it solo your best bet would just be running zombies over and using it like a bulldozer
4 man gunner loader commander driver
the mp desync would be funny
abrams does not have an autoloader it's hand loaded
but overall if you wanted just a good armored vehicle that ignores zombies
bradley
an APC would be great, papa chad's m113 apc mod was fantastic
yeah lighter armored stuff like that has a small fraction the wear and tear of heavy mbts
they can drive almost as long as a car can because of that
and even still we're talking like inch thick metal armor
good thing the gas is free
indeed
tho it does seem like they reduced the default gas station amounts further (id just raise it back up lol)
or better yet? let us grow corn and brew moonshine to fuel our vehicles
its literally what ethanol is aside they add a bit of gasoline to make it poisonous cuz people kept drinking it
E85, 30 years ahead of time
nah ethanol cars have existed since the first cars in 1890s
im serious tho they need to fix calorie usage the amount of calories you burn running and walking around are insane
100 calories gets you walking 1 whole mile to burn... you burn that ingame with like 100 feet lmao
junk food has the calorie counts of healthy salads with dressing
yes the nutrition is off by a wide margin
something is very off here
avoiding losing weight forces you to gorge yourself on dozens of junk food items
so all this junk food cant get me fat... but a big fish has 5000 calories
okay TIS lmao
the worse part is theres no sandbox option to tweak metabolism rate
i'd reduce it by a factor of 3 or 4
id also remove hunger system's starvation mechanic
tbh the whole weight system doesnt add much
even at max hunger you shouldn't just start dying
you are considered unhealthy at 74kg or something
most adults are fine weighing that much
that shit is dumb as fuck that there's 2 seperate starvation systems and one of them takes less than 2 days to starve to death
humans can live for months without food esp fat people
water is a far bigger concern than food in a survival situation
for a game wanting to be realistic this is very artificial difficulty
I understand this is literally just an animation glitch but i love it and i wish we could actually run around like this.
actually firearm trained people can run like that and do so
the problem if you want good nutrition in the game is that most doctors dont even know that much about it, so forget about laymen
in most countries you dont get much education during either residency or external
It would be nice to put corpses in a trailer or in the back of a car.
You can't?
Can`t figure out how to do it...
And instead all we get ingame is the silly goober walk with the gun at our side like a stick
Let me test real quick
I know you can open the door and shove a generator in a seat that way
most people dont understand that weight gain largely boils down to calories in vs calories out
i honestly doubt your months figure
no its absolutely true
Weeks, yes, months, no
"It's begging to look a lot like a Christmas"~
but im not finding much definite stuff in recent literature on human trials
Yeah i figured that one out
You can go months on very little food, but not none
i dont doubt that some people could survive some months without eating but i do doubt that most could
certainly over 1 month generally
you def wouldnt die a week without food
but ingame you have to eat basically every day or you will die which is dumb
youd feel miserable, exhausted, chronically tired, everything would feel 4x harder
there are a number of proteins you need to ingest that are crucial to endocrinal functions necessary to maintain activity
but youd be alive ig
and you would suffer from lack of crucial micronutrients too
The problem is there hasn't exactly been case studies on starvation to that extent. Most people don't volunteer to starve to death so it's all based off survivor information in survival situations.
the amount of calories you need to eat to maintain rate is insane
if you are perfectly healthy yes, but just one minor issue could end up decompensated
It's generally considered that a healthy, average adult can survive about 2 months without food.
we got a lot of information from the holocaust
the worst part was they found that if you start giving a starving person unlimited food they will eat themselves to death
the holocaust didnt exactly involve standard procedure
and scientific advancement was never its purpose, even if some people pretended it did, like Mengele
these victims who just gorged themselves on military rations had their livers basically explode because the sudden surge of blood sugar and nutrients
no that wasnt the issue. The issue was that their gut flora straight up didnt exist anymore. So it didnt matter what they ate. Their bodies could literally not digest any of it.
Take McCandless for example - he died from eating berries that generally wouldn't be an issue because he was so weak from starvation.
it's true that refeeding someone starving too quickly will kill them
you still can digest things with zero gut bacteria
but it's multifactorial and also related to insulin oversensitivity
otherwise antibiotics would kill you because you starve
and gain absolutely no nutrients from it causing you to simply keep starving
the bacteria just make it more efficient and give you more out of it
yeah pretty much what bomba said
itll basically be like eating raw stuff in terms of lost out nutrients
ppl often overstate gut microflora because it's a recent field of studies with lots of wowzers
you wont get none but youll get way lower than healthy person
and as with any recent field, things get overblown
okay internet armchair doctor council its not like i studied these things or something nooo
Uhhhh my entire mod list just disappeared?
im a md
its not exactly a momentous achievement
ive met very dumb as fuck doctors im shocked got a degree tbf but i dont think arrdef is wrong
i admittedly do not know much about nutrition
for babies i do know gut microbiome is very important but for fully established adults its not just gonna raw kill you either
but i wouldnt be wrong in advising against "not eating for months" to 99% of people
you will however be sickly and have deficiencies
if you need such radical measures in your life for your health, youre beyond discussing it on discord anyway
You're not my real mom - you can't tell me what to do.
Uh guys I may be honey roasted. My mod list is totally empty and I can't get it to show up anything ๐ฆ
Oop i'm getting an error - now to find where the erorr is saved
omfg I figured it out. I made an empty mod - just a file structure - but I didn't include mod info or anything and that was causing it
Vanilla Vehicles Animated is updated for B42! ๐
TIS
Never could.... That was a mod
yes you could you could always pick up the dispenser and they added taking the bottles off from the mod
originally you could only take whole thing and not bottle seperate
ok so you need to put bottle back on to take it? that... doesn't make sense but ok
Those errors making me feeling scared lmao
does anyone know of a mod that makes buildings less dark during the day
welcome to b42
holy shit they thought of everything, it seems like you cant read the nutritional information of food in the dark
YEEEEES
they added cases of food thank the fuckin lord
i hope they added boxes of teabags and stuff, cuz who tf buys individual teabags
the boxes they come in have like... 30 at least lmao
one tub of coffee makes like dozens of cups
game was always extremely stingy with what you get out of stuff and not realistic at all
how many cans in a box?
no idea

judging by weight probably 4
gotta keep that in mind, my woodsman character might not survive super long without some supplies
I think you can also pack the boxes yourself and books can be boxed too
i just increased non persishable foods to 1.5
still unrealistically low but a bit less stingy
doesn't even require a cardboard box to pack lol
little detail that's neat
you cannot dump stuff on the ground while inside the car if the windows are closed
it's an obvious thing but it wasn't a thing in B41

I'm sure I tried with the windows open and it also didn't work. Have to try again now...
The chicken farm in echo is actually so broken. I found like 110+ cartons of eggs there. I just decided to live amongst the chickens.
Theres also conveniently 3 fridges for holding eggs as well.
home
Lmao
Clean your house*
they do have sheets
Yeah. I think its called refeeding syndrome or smtg like that if you want to look up more info on it.
Anyways i ended up running over a chicken and found a chick hovering over it so i gave it my room because i felt bad. Left after saying goodbye to my chickens and then died in a tunnel. My chickens think i left them for dead 100%
saw a screenshot of a piglet the other day that said it "cant find its mother"
Oh... oh no. Please put those inside, you're scaring the children.
so sad
I had to butcher my 4 spawn house chickens when I realized they were like 14 units each, didnt fit to my car. Ball-peen hammer mercy kills. Then found out I can chew on their feetsies, and "slice" their heads to get skulls. And apparently brains.
not the hammer ๐ญ
Zombies can tear the curtains down if the curtains are on the outside.
i finally made something to fix my calorie deficit
Yeah, i tried that but idk what the brains and skulls are for.
Ball peen hammer and a nail, classic lobotomy tools
Extremely rare loot (between rare and insanely rare setting), didn't have any other weapon...well ok, maybe the fillet knife but wanted to save its durability for butchering
you can mount the skulls on sticks
Just a preface
Skulls are for ornaments, or maybe clothing since chicken skull is far smaller than a deer one...brains, no idea. I left them behind...
But then i guess the brains are useless
Those horse trailers are super sensitive to turning over. Turn your corners very slowly if you don't want them to tilt
Id expect to be able to cook them or something but.
Execute order 66
Or we can report this to the devs so they can tune the tilting.
I guess my character refused because he knows theres still 1500+ eggs left. Picky bastard.
It's already reported
I just poured bottles of all sorts of drinks into a bucket and drank the whole thing. 10/10 best last drink before zombification
nice
can you put chickens inside a car
you Shouldn't need a trailer for them certainly
Didnt try it but i was going to when i moved to waverly. But i kinda died in a tunnel underground before that
if your big back ass can sit in a car seat you can fit at least 4 chickens there
sure they will probably shit inside your car but you probably pulled a dead guy out of it as well
Irl room with blinds during the day
what are the devs thinking exactly with this pitch dark thing
ikr
Lighting just too literal right now.
not even the closet at the back is pitch dark
I just spawned in echo, theres a big chicken farm to the right of echo with hundreds of chickens. You could try finding it.
the sun is... very fucking bright lmao
the B42 experience:
Look at car:
2 Zombies
Turn around for 2 seconds
Look at car again:
Like how sheets blank out the light instead of dimming it
they def should tune up how that works so more light passes through
more light, spreading further
add in blankets in addition to sheets, both used for covering up in bed for sleep boost as well as being blackout curtains
Because all curtains are blackout curtains.
in all directions
blankets could be much thicker and actually block out the light
in zomboid i dont even get this light while opening the curtains
I dunno, you can double dip irl and light is still there
Really dim but workable light
Lighting calculations also saves CPU, making it more suited to pathfinding your Zombies to you.
then revert to old light system

no
no
exploring in daytime without power is impossible rn
well boys power went out over night
i dont think you tried the mall or the airport recently
okay, but those would get really fucking dark
not that much
they would, ask me how i know
look at the pic above, his damn house is pitch dark
ikr it def should not be that black
the house, no, but large buildings like an airport, absolutely
devs went way too far in name of 'difficulty' totally sprinting past realism
not as dark as they are rn
have you seen how many windows airports have lmao
their walls are 80% glass
large public places function very well with few lights
In Zomboid?
it's actually very important in public health for indoors places to be lit via natural sunlight
irl shrug im just saying if a building has a lot of windows it should be visible enough to move in daytime
I mean you cant really see behind you irl...
idk why its really an issue
have you tried looting houses or stores in daytime
Yes?
large rooms get pretty dark when its just natural light (this was with a wide open aperture)
it absolutely is an issue
you can literally see every surface on the pic
its not as dark as pz
you can see in that pic a lot lmao
only place you cant discern is on top left
you would be able to see a person standing in there
idk man, i certainly dont need to turn on the light in my office
im indoors in daytime rn
So are you whining that its too dark?
just let some light through curtains OR revert the whole improved system back to 41. lol you guys are way too dramatic
definitely not the second one
its only dramatic because some people are being bad faith
if what you see in pz is what you see irl you absolutely need to consult an ophtalmologist
yeah, because id be seeing in isometric view
see this is the bad faith im talking about
i was making a joke
was the game designed by your dad or something
What is this complaining even about?
lack of light propagation
rolf I had the same idea
whos rolf
tried cdda, its a pain to manage the muscle lol
light doesnt diffuse properly in indoors space
for instance, a window will only illuminate a small cone
brain fart. rofl
whereas any large window would illuminate pretty much the entire room in a 180ยฐ cone
bounce lighting and GI is hell to simulate even with simplistic graphics
it doesnt have to be modelled with physics accurate mechanisms
Found a cool bug - if you get enough negative moodles stacked, then wear a gas mask that lowers your vision range into the negative you get 360 degree vision.
just widen the cone
and lengthen it
nobody is arguing for individual photons and their path and absorption to be modeled
werent you just talking about bad faith?
That felt a bit too OP
I think the lighting is fine, its an unstable beta anyway. If you find something isnt right report it to the devs
you do not need to simulate photons bouncing off surfaces
in 99% of scenario, a surface will exist for light to bounce off
so pz, the computer program, can just widen the cone to 180ยฐ to reflect that
you are aware of everything but too tired and depressed and anxious to do anything about it
Piss
its not a bug to report, it is a mistake in design, and this discord server is appropriate to discuss it
I'm pretty sure animals inside trailers are immortal until you load the area
I'm 75 days in and I found some cows just chilling inside one
animals in general dont die until you load them in
I personally think its fine, I dont expect RTX graphics from pz
i did not ask for rtx graphics
no structural change is needed in what i suggest
i.e widening the cone that starts at the light source
should be fairly easy to mod in? i wonder if anyone has done that
theres a couple night vision mods around so altering how light works is definitely in the bounds of the engine
but i couldnt like, find a single variable to modify
so its a bit beyond my technical proficiency to do so
Does anyone know if there's a way to make reading just a little faster..? Other than the trait.. ๐
the trait
Again.. other than the trait..
and speeding up time
Fast-forward time.
Sandbox settings?
@raw parcel my suggestion: gather some screenshots and write out what you think should be improved specifically in those cases. structure this in a single message so it's easier for the devs to see and understand.
how long it takes to read stuff depends on number of pages, those can be modified trivially in files
was hoping for a setting, I'll take a look again.
So new car meta - use a livestock trailer to run the zombies over. Hit them once, then hit them again as they begin to stand and it's an insta-kill.
pretty sure there's a sandbox setting like time to read a page or something
ill just wait for a mod tbh, or just try to make my own
Fuck me I have to make liberal use of debug so that these new trailers stay upright
I turn 1 degree more than it wants and its either it tilts or I get launched to the stratosphere
I had seen it before in 41 just not seeing it this time around. I probably overlooked it or something.
you cant make campfires in the dark?
I don't think you can craft much of anything in the dark
under character. still looking for a setting for other literature
Darkness is now omega spooky
yeah and that screwed me over
insanely rare run and no flashlight got me cooked to death
apparently, this is the only setting. I wonder if non-skill book speed derives from it too, then
Yes
Every book has a page count and that one settings controls the reading speed per page so by default if a book has 220 pages (most level 1 skill books) it takes 440 minutes to read.
If I set zombie respawn to 0 but population peak to 5, will it peak the zombie pop first or will the pop stay at its initial?
it will gradually reach that at peak day
epic
default peak day is 28, note that even with all this off you will still get zombie spawns indoors
build forty two
built footytoo
byild fouuteeee tooow
No clue where this road goes but there were a ton of zombies here. Going to see if I can make my way thru
bro why the fuck does this game think TV dinners make you want to stuff a sawed off in your mouth and pull the trigger
did one of the devs get traumatized by a TV dinner
tv dinners have higher unhappiness than eating dead rotting rats whole
lol
Ok need to come back with an axe.
||The road is totally washed out, i'll have to cut my way through||
Cause tv dinners tastes bad
this might be being peasant brained
but i would prefer eating a tv dinner to a dead rat
id certainly be happier eating it than a raw fucking potato
raw potatoes should have an unhappiness factor
OH SO THE BRAZILIAN EASTER EGG SOUL FILCHER ADDED WAS THE OVO CAR?
"Look at the Ovo Car coming down your street, 10 Ovos for only 5 Dollars. Loooook at the Ovo Car coming down your street"
they should add foxes as visible predators to chickens and stuff
love this
i will kill the fox and hang up its dead flayed corpse for the other foxes to see as an example
They will definelly add soon since they're already ingame as Meta-Predators
Hello, The new light system in the game is very pretty and is measurably more immersive. However, sunlight does not penetrate far enough in buildings, leading to very dark buildings even during the day. For instance: In yellow, the light source (window) with the expected path of light. Light fall...
very good criticism
'wilderness knowledge' trait is a must have now
Dinnertime.
wow
is this the full trait desc mod?
are workbenches craftable?
or I gotta find one in the world?
Is this a mod which is showing you all of this? Because if so can it show occupations as well I wanna know what else the livestock farmer occupation gives
Pov
Hunting with guns โ
Hunting with cars โ
Just bagged 4 rabbits
You can only transport one cow at a time - this will be a pain in the butt.
Not the paring knife, thats for sure
But i found a machete and have been constantly sharpening it as i go, and it's still only has gotten to like 60% condition so far
I uave a feeling that if you let a blade get too dull, it receives damage more quickly
how do you make your own long axe? not stone? i can't find anything in the crafting menu.
mb I'll send it here later and tag u, already in a game exploring map xD
anyone noticed some zombies just donโt make noise ๐
i had my pc and zomboid volume at max and got vigorous back shots twice in a row
And? disapointing right?
Yeaaaa. I didn't go get my axe to make it all the way down but it just... A lot of zombies for no real reason it seems...
...

Yeah, its a flooded road, i like to think that the zombies where the ones that tried crossing but got bitten.
generators really need a rework ngl
most generators have instructions literally printed on them.... and they just have sockets to plug stuff in, like even without the magazine you should be able to fill it up and turn it on and like connect a fridge or plug in a light to it
see all that writing
Venus devouring his Son
( When will devs finally add that being covered completely in blood and eating infects you, lol )
Anyone know if there is such thing as like a miners helmet or something so you can see in the dark without having to hold a flashlight in one of your hands
the better flashlights mod from b41 let you stuff any flashlight onto your belt, hoping it gets updated soon
Think you can add a flashlight to your helmet?
Webbing?
Leaves your hands free
Yeah cuz like im tired of having to one hand my bat
Army webbing
where
There's a chance for it to spawn at the gunstores
Or kill army zeds
of course gaijin be like 'ohhh bro this useful item can only be found extremely rarely and super uniqueeee
nobody civillian and normal EVER WANTS a hands free light brooooo
Ok can you put an axe head on a wooden long handle???
doesnt exist bro
Or small wooden handle
Lol i love this
You ask where and I pointed. Go complain somewhere else
Is there anywhere military around brandenburg?
Yes
All ive seen so far for like places of interest that amuse me are a book store, ammo store, police department, middle school, gigamart, and fire station
Thereโs a small refugee camp by a farm south of brandenberg and brandenberg has a military checkpoint
Military checkpoint? Which direction?
North brandenburg?
Iโve already been to the on-water restaurant and thats like the most northern you can get
Yeah
Is it like east or west of that restaurant
Go explore man
Bruh im just trying to find a head flashlight
I think you can find military flashlights and attach them to a belt or something
Or the webbing thing u were referring to
But no lighted headware. Closest thing is the webbing and the angled flashlight
Yeah sorry. I meant just anything that would let me see and use a two handed
But the good news is with all that gear you can now military larp vanilla style
When it comes to lighitng there appears to be lanterns now? so there might be something there
and get aggravatingly uncomfortable and severe aim penalties as punishment!
Nah it still needs to be held
this is not a complaint. i prefer it this way.
Those can't be placed on the ground or at least hung off your belt? bit strange
I want people out of Military Gear and to look like People again.
I tried it no option for me to attach it
what about the big hiking pack? that seems to have a slot
Very much looking forward to B42 Roleplaying now that you get punished for running around in jarring garish armors and gear for any longer than is required
Backpack bottom only accepts packed tents and sleeping bags
I mean you already were by how hot that stuff was to wear
I want a damn solar panel attached to my backpack that charges the spotlight iโll probe out of my forehead so i can blind all zombies in my trace with the heat and brightness of the sun
true veterans of the game knew that armour was borderline useless most the time anyways and just wore clothes for fashion, the true newb armour was all the firefighter gear
zombies don't catch the human virus if they get a single wound from you
that was always the problem with relying on armour, only one attack needs to get through to doom your run
Best armor is fishnets and military boots
Yes
Thats not my concern, youre right, ofc, but what im concerned about were the John Zomboids in Multiplayer servers who think that wearing a bunch of military gear and a gasmask the entire time makes them "cool and mysterious" rather than edgy and cringe inducing
Now they get punished for running around in stuffy, hot, cumbersome gear
I guess, I mean I think it's equally silly if wearing military gear makes it harder to use guns
Why complain about people having fun
but I don't even know what uncomfortable even actually does
Because they tended to regularly ruin mine.
Because they wore military gear in a zombie game?
Because they would be edgy assholes to me
so seeing their garish choices get a kick in the shin is satisfying on a personal level. Also- i just plain love the immersion.
As far as I noted, it makes your character unhappy faster
Whatever makes you happy man
From what ive seen it causes some minor damage, causes unhappiness and stress builds up faster
Then again my characters are always depressed so nothing changed
Really, minor damage?
Health is wierd in zomboid, the health bar is basically inconsequential unless your bleeding or feverish
it's always the bites that actually kill you
But then the health system is kinda one of those things I think they intend to do a big overhaul on someday
Anyone getting any lag spikes from horse trailers if you tow them for too long?
Not sure on that one, i try to avoid it personally
I got a trailer filled with sheep from Rosewood and brought it all the way to my base near Ekron and around halfway through the journey game would freeze for a few seconds
Fair enough
Reproducible, at least from my end
that's chunks loading
Even if you're driving slow?
if you are for the first time, it's possible
also take into account the RAM issue has not been fully solved
I don't seem to experience it if I'm not towing trailers irregardless of the speed
Anyways, more tests needed
it just freezes?
real chads play with saliva only transmission and never clean off the blood
the animal trailers behave oddly
ill toast to that
in the way that when you attach them they kinda like damage the trunk and they flip almost instantly
They're too sensitive
They can't stand corners
They tilt over if you turn 1 degree more than they're used to
the part that I've damaged my trunk while attaching it....
they tilt too much and they get too easy flipped on sides
Tv dinners aren't even non-perishable anymore
Eating actual tvs would be better for your mood
im convinced a dev got a tv dinner took it out of the box and it had mold or something and traumatized them
TV dinners in the 90s were notoriously shit
i dont get why
The sheer volume of stuff oh my lord
the early tv dinners from the 1950s didnt really look bad, im sure it looked worse than the packaging but
Was there a thurd in most tv dinners in the 90's?
A Mineral- Specimen Case.
How very oddly specific a thing to add...
Weird. Idk why mine won't calm down then
https://www.twitch.tv/retanaru/clip/SmellyDependableKuduYouWHY-b2Ypxux_E6crWh-M there may have been a slight overcorrection to risk-reward in point of interest balance.
Wtf
All those zombies for a medium handle and a wrench
...Unpopular but I always turn ammo at least up to abundant
bro shoes breaking so quickly and just falling off is annoying
theres no notification or noise or anything that it happens so you only notice when suddenly your feet are bleeding and your walking is crippled
I think part of it is people are doing a lot more stomping now to mitigate the muscle strain
nice... very cool...
I only had that issue with shoes. Boots haven't broken on me yet.
They didn't before?
It isnโt about muscle strain tbqh especially after the nerf to the buildup.
The main reason to do it early days is to keep the condition on the 1-2 weapons you find for the first couple of days
b-b-b-but that'd be too easy...!
seriously speaking though, you're right
some of the things in PZ are gatekept for little reason
i dislike artificial unrealistic difficulty buffing
the hard part of a generator should be powering an entire house, easy part would be plugging a couple appliances in
so like powering a few lamps and stuff with extension cord and powerstrip
McDonald's menu also looks pretty in the pictures
like i said im sure its worse than the photos but how mind-breakingly bad can they really be
people probs wouldnt buy them if they were so unpallatable you'd rather eat buckshot
they are bad also because the microwave ovens were bad
early tv dinners you couldn't microwave they were on metal trays so you had to bake them in oven
unless your microwave oven had a grill function, any heating was horribly inconsistent
most people in this game cook them in the oven too
idk i wasnt alive in the 50s, neither were my parents
i wasnt either lmao
but in the 90s there were definitely some microwave ovens
tbh the depression thing as it relates to food is really overstated
i can eat things that qualify more as cattle feed than human consumption meals
without them tanking my well being
I mean, they shouldn't be worse than a rotting rat like you pointed earlier. But frozen dinners were kind of a staple of a depressing life in media
sure but this is a zombie apocalypse im sure the death of billions of men women and children literally eaten alive would be a more prescient thing to be upset about
i agree
ultimately, the loss of all your loved ones would far overshadow any psychic consequence of food tasting bad
i typically run mods that disable depression for that reason
you would probably be happy you get to eat old-world food at all
Kind of agree. Army food is known to affect morale. Maybe add a stoic trait to not get upset by minor stuff?
they should add a freaky perk that disables mood negative from eating cockroaches
how happy you are about food is relative,y if your cold wet and miserable anything hot will be amazing
I say they should add lactose intolerance
i dont mind the happiness debuffs some food gives. It makes sense to a degree, and food morale is a thing. I still remember eating really shitty meals back at school and it certainly didnt make me feel better lol
it will be another one of them "literally free" perks
the difference is that army being a totalitarian institution, you don't necessarily choose what you eat; this element of choice is still present for zomboid survivors, albeit constrained by the apocalypse
I have never really hard problems managing unhappiness in zomboid
The penalties for it arenโt even that bad and itโs trivial to clear even with B42 loot tables
i would be glad to eat army food
so i think the morale impact of food is lesser in our case
Rations are kinda designed to at least be familier to the troops, the most infamous rations were kindof outliers
it genuinely sounds good to have the same food routine every day idk what people say about meal variety
just read a book or cook one good meal and you're good
unhappiness is really only a problem if youre dealing with longterm stress ingame imo
what was the cooking skill even for? what did it affect?
wait, does stress impact unhappiness same with boredom?
cooking skill is nice because it creates calories and nutrients out of thin air
so it preserves your stores
just eat zombies!!!!!
the reasoning being that a skilled cook can prepare food with much less waste than a complete beginner
Yeah, if you take the smoker trait and become stressed you get depressed really quickly
and depression makes your timed actions slower
but tbh in the apocalypse most of the effects of depression on one's own life are kind of moot
Yes. Smokers and Blood Fearers get depressed a lot more easily when the moodles arenโt being managed
yep, hence why i asked. I dont take the smoker trait anymore because i deem it to be too much of a pain in the ass, especially now, when cigarettes are somehow even harder to find
stress reduces damage and gives unhappiness when high enough i think
like, depressed people are less likely to enjoy a romantic relationship properly or to advance in their career
but in a zombie apocalypse theres few career prospects at all
only thing is suicide but i doubt that spontaneous self harm would be appreciated
hii, how can I made Stone Block?
is there like literally any source of stress than being about to die, or being covered in blood/not smoking for 5 seconds with respective traits
depressed people are less likely to keep going when it comes to anything honestly
say you've got your daily routine of things to do while surviving in the apocalypse; if you're feeling like there's no point in existing anymore, keeping up with those responsibilities is going to be a whole lot harder
yes exactly but the issue is that it's the character who is depressed, and, i assume, not the player
but the industriousness etc is entirely dependent on decisions made out of character, so to speak
thats why i dont think theres a satisfying way to implement and gamify depression to a meaningful degree
definitely, but then it does make sense that the character is sort of more "sluggish" with their actions once that depression sets in
anyways yes it cant be perfected to 100%, as most mechanics
yeah the problem lies in the metric implemented to decide how well should a character feel
not all people feel the same way about the importance of good food
like, straight up burned or foul tasting food will revulse anyone
but sloppy food doesnt bother some people
once subjectivity comes in play, all this falls apart, So while these mechanics need to be designed in a more objective way, and it may not be perfect, it is the best option we have
Try transfering it when you grabbed it into your boot via the item at the bottom of your inventory called corpse. (Sorry for the late response if ya found a way already)
im just brainstorming here
i read somewhere that depression had an impact on physical performance
theres an idea that'll be real popular, your character can carry less when depressed
I think subjectivity would perfectly fit in traits
also i know for sure that depressed people report more illness
so if your char is depressed they get sick more easily
the mental state of one's being can 100% affect them physically as well (in some way), but i wouldnt say you straight up get muscle atrophy from being depressed or anything even close to being that drastic of an effect
yeah but as you pointed out, the psychic element is very important, obviously not as much as somatic
this i agree with
the problem is that no matter what traits you pick, the "baseline" of your character is still more or less the same
depressed people also have worse sleep routines
theres really a number of game systems to play with if you really want to hit close to home
i wish i had time to mod
I think the trait system we have is good enough, at most some traits will need to get buffed/nerfed + more traits should be added
what i deem problematic right now is the medical system because at times it makes zero sense
i dont know how to feel about the athletic smoker incompatibility
ah yes, my character is in agony after getting 3 small scratches that were disinfected
ive certainly met smokers with above average lung capacity
ah yes, i am about to bleed out from having my head scratched once
though i dont know if they qualify as "athletic"
Scratch wounds in PZ should only be a minor inconvenience that barely gives you any pain but runs the risk of infection if not paid enough attention to, and infections themselves should be reworked
the pure randomness of scratch wounds is infuriating
Well, in zomboid terms I think when they say scratch they mean something that actually breaks skin, we're not talking about your cat accidentally scratchin you here
a deep scratch wound is just a laceration
a scratch is a scratch. Its not life threatening, and it certainly doesnt bleed that hecking much as it does in pz
The wound and health system is one of those things that needs an overhaul one of these days anyways
their wording is off yeah
It really does. I hope they will rework it in B43
a scratch to me evokes the image of a simple abrasion
The way i see it, they could keep the existing wounds, but expand on the system by adding more tiers of the same wound, if that makes sense
i would start with adding wounds when you fall on pavement
what I mean is like the baseline would be like "an average person" or the cultural norm for the time and place and traits would let you deviate from that.
abrasions and contusions are a common result of falls
and they can feel very painful
they can infect though its pretty unlikely compared to open wounds
Once I tried to mod soap as a disinfectant and found the existing system really limited. Maybe they want to rework it first
oh definitely but if you want traits like "not as picky when it comes to food, less vulnerable to unhappiness debuffs from eating" and other specific stuff like that, we'll need like 10-20 more traits anyway
so there's work to be done either way
whats a contusion
bruising
ohh right
One of the issues is that when playing on intended settings any wound from a zombie is a potential run ender, so the first aid system doesn't get a lot of play, and yanno, first aid barely actually does anything
๐ฅฒ
heence why i make it so only a bite can infect my char
yoga
it can infect, some regions are more susceptible to that, overall it's unlikely but it's a zombie apoc
definetly. My point was that the trait system would be the perfect place to put this instead of trying to balance the game to a point where nobody finds something that doesn't make sense to them (which is impossible)
a start but the potential for that random zombie related injury to be a bite still makes it so you'll never level up first aid
what it very often does though is limit movement
first aid is lackluster anyway and needs to be made into a more useful skill, probably something that could come with the rework of the medical system
with our character doing carpentry, fixing up cars, and running all over the place, theres definitely room to implement these injuries
you could snag your finger with some machinery, bruise your hand making fire
why is rosewood fire station full of like... zombie loot or some shit instead of like... firefighter stuff
lmfao wtf
fuck they killed the best loot table in the game
Loot's just fucked
I found like, 1 dull fireaxe in there once, it feels a little targeted since tahts the traditional noobie loot spot
wrong, ive found loads of crowbars, axes and mechanical stuff there
28 days later is a zombie movie with infection by bodily fluids and the idea is damn terrifying
i wanted an axe or something
the loot pools are a bit too unpredictable rn, possibly
I did find myself breaking into police armories and finding sweet FA
maybe they tried modeling large scale looting but this doesn't explain jewelry in a fire station's tool cabinet
look at this shit bro???
gas mask and respirator filters are werid and knee pads don't go to the right knee, where would i send that?
especially since that building has several locker rooms and a washroom for these wares
this looks like zombie loot table
i think abrasions and scratches could be dangerous due to their potential to give you a infection if youre generally dirty, bruises would increase your pain moodle, (more than abrasions at least), and the more major injuries such as burns/lacerations should have multiple tiers of severity
blood loss needs to be seriously tweaked, etc
blood loss is super location dependent
infection is only a real risk if theres large hematomas or it's some region that sees a lot of contact like hands, face etc
Does anyone else have the same problem:
When first loading (first time after world creation), character can perform all animations (search upper/middle/lower container)
But after loading an existing save (the same world) these animations are no longer playing anymore and the only one left is search middle container. Forever, bc the world isn't new anymore. (Build 41 is affected too)
Idk why it bothers me. I just like different animations when interacting with fridge or freezer or desk and so on
correct but dont tell me you'd bleed out from a minor scratch to your head or neck unless you have blood coagulation problems lol
I don't know if infection is still toothless, I think I saw a sandbox option to make it damage you at least
just implement a human immunodeficiency virus trait that makes zombification 100% on any zombie contact
and leave the rest of us alone
"Former reddit admin" trait
gives 5 in electrical, 4 strenght 3 fitness
Sounds like the survivors houses are where you will need to hit now.
If those are empty then yeah it needs a reconsideration
i been finding lots of good loot in survivior houses mainly like recipes for stuff
Survivor houses if they still exist have some false positives, I poked through some boarded up houses, one looked like a meth lab and had fuck all in it
not even cans of soda?
There are some false positives mixed in yeah
last two i have found and thats just on apoc settings
ive found only liek 1 survivor house (and no annotated maps) and all it had was one blacksmithing schematic
which is nice because in 41 they were butt i never bothered going into those houses lol
what kind of font is that
are annotated maps gone?
the one in accessibility lol
thats supposed to be more readable?
Pretty hard to read
on my monitor with the font size its fine
where do i find a generator mag in rosewood
ive yet to find an annotated map so im assuming that they removed them
school, library, lawyer office
Survivor zeds have them
anywhere that has a bookshelf
yah i find them on survivior ones
more incentive when you see specific zomber to go murder them now
theres like 3 or 4 bookshelves in the law offices on the main street, ppl sleep on it
me: proceeds to dismantle every electrical device in rosewood to get to lvl 3 electrical instead like a boss
Anything you think might be valuable are more likely to spawn in on those survivor homes/zombies
So schematics, recipes, annonated maps, magazines, etc
cell to cell, before it was in-cell
redistribute hours, now you have that + cell-to-cell
what does "si" on steamdb depots stands for?
I have a much easier time reading it. There's some weird voodoo science behind it. But I don't like how it looks so I don't use it lol
is there an ophtalmologist in knox country? my char has cataract
am i the only one who really likes the idea of post-apocalyptic vehicle tuning? i.e. welding metal sheets on your vehicle to make it more durable, sacrificing mobility
That's supposedly coming out vanilla
No - I love that idea and it's planned for us to armor vehicles in Vanilla in the future. Who knows when though.
hell yeah
i just dont hit things with my car
Main mechanics and hit everything
its really temping, i already shredded through one of my heavy duty hoods and had to steal another from a different vehicle
Just hit everything with the livestock trailer instead.
the rosewood highway has so many zombs its almost impossible not to hit one
years of driving in top-down gta etched my brain with the muscle memory requisite for pz driving
besides, i need to go rob that gas station
yeah, standardized vehicle upgrades will be out in a few days probs
the creator was showing it off in b42 on his discord
Finally
i meant vanilla. I'm willing to wait till like B44 for that stuff
theres a wonderful mod called filibuster's rhyme used cars
I wonder if he changed the crafting to use the vanilla crafting mechanics.
he has an alpha version of the mod going for B42, cant really divulge details but go find out more on his discord
the lengths some people go to avoid mods are madness to me
they are about
:C why
They were kinda useless
especially when the vehicles in vanilla look so soviet
It is difficult to fully explain. I simply try to avoid unofficial stuff, it makes the game experience less special if the mechanics are implemented by a third party
Have too many mods and troubleshooting becomes a nightmare
Lots of zombies here doesn't quite tell anything when everything has a lots of zombies
Like others said survivor zombies Change the settings in your next run via sandbox custom.
i had like 200 mods in b41 and didnt get any errors
Mods absolutely nuke fps for some reason
I dont get it, what do you mean?
I tried to play modded with a friend it was unplayable
next world instead of apocalypse do a custom sandbox to change world settings. Remember to maybe test a few to get a feel of what you prefer
? Are you saying they nuked the default spawn settings for the annotated maps?
Longest run in a long time and I still have a ton of stuff I want to do ๐
new build new stuff not the same as build 41
He probably means to tune up your sandbox settings so survivor zeds spawn more. Annotated maps, as far as I can see, seem to only spawn in either on survivor zeds or within survivor homes
No more hunting them in bookshelves
I would love to play b42 but the game doesn't work and even then apparently optimisation has been nuked
ah ok, wish i woudlve known that earlier. I cant really change the loot spawns for my ongoing run if ive already started it, huh?
Wdym the game doesnโt work
I'm pretty sure you can debug then mess with your sandbox settings on an ongoing game
Black screen on boot
the game runs much better for me esp when driving fast
Try going into the settings file and turning off full screen
i'm scared i'll mess something up with my world lmao
Probably a good idea to keep this in mind for the next time im making a character
if you wanted b41 to buttchugg drive fast at night time in a populated city's roads with heavy rainfall
guess i didnt look in the sandbox settings hard enough
unrelated, old amd card
your game will turn into a slideshow
Why not try at least
Because i did
Oh man
I've reset fiddled with and removed my user/zomboid
known bug you have to wait it was a unexpected issue
if ya have a old amd gpu
and my friend who had the game run at 60 in b41 reports single digit fps when zoomed out
There's a lot of infinite glitches going around
Seems like there's an infinite watch disassembly fresh out of the oven too
The game runs pretty much the same
In what area of the world?
muldraugh multiple spawn points
I could imagine some lag with the 360 degree vision mod
Mod?
universal vehicle upgrades but its not out yet for 42
its great tho you can run over zombies without your car breaking down
Isn't it not nearly as good considering roads are supposed to be way less populated
Mauldraugh has a lot more condensed zombies now. They are likely rendering a lot more zombies now. It is more optimised but there are also a larger amount of zombies in areas. Tell them to turn off some of the graphics settings and largest zoom distance to see if that helps.
I'll see for myself when the hotfix comes out
Is it a MOD then? sorry I don't understand yet haha
The rabbits and rats are deadly
At least to your car's condition
It wont be until Janurary for the AMD fix at least I presume. Its for unsupported AMD gpus (as in they didnt get recent AMD updates)
I will honestly never think of zomboid the same now that animals sre a thing
Yes my amd card is legacy for 4 years
When was your card released originally?
2013 I believe
I suggest you try to upgrade next year. Lots has changed since 2013.
Doesn't seem we can make ice cream. Chop chop modders
Sorry just woke up from a coma last week
yes its a mod its just not updated yet to b42
still you can use your car as an offensive weapon lol
I don't get how people keep upgrading their pc setups constantly but it genuinely just does the job for 90% of the stuff
Thank you dude ๐ซก
i dont like that horde over there, ill run them all over
i wish zombies had ragdoll physics with cars
I've only upgraded my computer when the HDD and ram died
I only upgraded after 8 years this year. My machine was starting to fail I had to upgrade.
It might need retiring from gaming though sadly.
can these be used with masonry?
no, not really
It runs most fun games well
Alright its your choice either way. Processing power and how games are done has changed a lot in 11 years. Anyhow best to move back to zomboid talk.
I'm hyped for the fix i suppose
afaik those are still just furniture props
i hope they change that
so you can loot building materiels from construction sites and hardware stores and stuff, a home depot type place would be fantastic for this game
yeah, wooden pallet is already in so you can just make a crafting recipe for removing/adding bricks to a pallet
that stuff would massively speed up masonry
god i hope dogs come in quick that will def be fun
they did show us dogs before actually they just never made it into the release
skinwalker dogs lmao
i love my dog Dogmeat and his ability to withstand a direct nuclear fission impact
the main thing id hope for them is being able to participate in combat AT ALL
grab zombies leg and yank them over or something, or at least run around distracting them
is there a limit on how many times you can sharpen a blade on a specific weapon? seems it is not giving me a prompt anymore despite my machete being dull...
The Knox disease doesn't affect animals, yes?
I hope we get a mod for it, but no
same
military rounded up and killed dogs
it seems they did implement framework for animals being violent as bulls can attack you
i for one would actually like zombie animals
so i do hope it's a mod
imagine encountering a fucking zombie bear
I almost died because I didn't realize my dude ran out of water lmfao
a zombie bear seems barely more dangerous than a regular bear
a bear that doesn't bleed to death
youre in the forest alone, as a female survivor, would you rather
so you either have to pierce its 8 inch thick skull or be eaten alive
a zombie bear or a male zombie
Is leveling maintenance 0-1 impossible in b42? Any tips
the human easily lmao
a zombie bear will probably be able to run and climb trees still
hit stuff with stuff that doesn't break. don't have slow learner
but the human zombie may be misogynistic
that shit is so weird to me like the bear has 50 50 shot of eating you the dude has like a 2% chance of being malevolent lmao
it could be a forest ranger looking for poachers
2% is probably an order of magnitude off
unless i missed an epidemics of sexual assault on trails
tbh
What the hell are we talking about
as far as research is concerned, zombie animals would be a boon
as the ethics of experimenting on animals are far less complicated than (former) humans
so we'd be able to get a cure out faster
I think it's affected by your skill level and the whetstone itself
my maintenance level?
makes sense though
there was no hope for sunlight, this is how you taped a flashlight to your head
I was joking about the gas can of milk but... It's actually the most effecient container for it I own lmfao
Yep that one. But I'm not positive.
anyone know why i spawned with 12 slots but after reconnecting only have 8?? i have 0 moodles
what does "si" on steamdb depots stands for?
Need more context. What do you mean by spawning with 12 slots? And reconnecting?
standard integration?
i cant wait for steamdeckers
Yeah zomboid on the Deck is awesome
No clue but it's the devs internal build that they update most.
has anyone fiddled with increasing lighting updates in graphics?
For some reason it never occured to me until now.. To just cook my food in bulk
That what we started doing on my B41 server, and had a little cafeteria area that had ready made meals so people could just pull them out of the freezer
Pop em in a microwave and enjoy
Combat maintenance is slow now. Crafting is where the real gains for maintenance are at
Crap I need sand..
But you canโt really craft anything until level 1 yeah?
Iโm taking all containers I can find
Tin cans, glass bottles, pots, etc
Putting water in them
Where the heck am I supposed to find sand specifically.
Got 32 L of fresh water reserves (not counting my sinks and other stuff)
But it comes around 180 L of water
Plenty to last me so that I can then build my own collectors
Tool shops
I actually never wondered. Can you dig up sand?
You could in B41
You can dig sand, but I can't find any sand tiles.
No muscle strain? ๐คจ
I'm using mods, but a question is this reference officially in build 42 or is it from a mod I'm using that I don't know.
12 pounds if storage in my main inv
and after i left and rejoined my solo
You should check what the mod adds first
Check gas stations, go around the whole map looting them all
Report a bug if you can.
Not a garuntee but the loot table is less diluted with useless books
Pretty much!
Keep in mind that they only accept vanilla bug reports rn
While you do that check every electrical maintanence location too
I believe you can use generators at level 3 electrical btw
They're little cube buildings with a fence around them
Or connect them at least
or if you find a skill magazine that teaches you
The relay stations?
i got sooo lucky finding one
Never considered those
Survivor zeds
Nah they're 9x9 or 7x7 tile buildings with a barbed chain link fence and a pole gate
Honestly all of my generator mags at 42 are coming from them
yah i been finding them in vehicles that would have that kind of stuff
Yea pretty sure those are power relay stations
