yea, theres like bazillion zeds, its practically impossible in early-middle game
I gathered up the majority of the zombies via shouting and luring but migration happened and they all rushed back lol

Yea that is the one! One of the pumps was pretty close to empty for me, the other is still going strong (I still have power so I have been filling every empty can I get with fuel because I have yet to find How To Generators Mag)

ahh yea fair, first thing I did when it went live was was look at the custom sandbox settings. But yes custom XP rates per skill is available
probably no need. They either have or will implement an all-wilderness map soon
hopefully they release the new mapping tools soon - I want to mess with them, one of the things I want to do is make a wilderness map

The default loot settings of rare are... too rare in some parts?
Specifically, Tools, Materials and Books IMO
There are ALOT of those in the game now.
With the default settings having to contend only being able to fish maybe 2-5 max out of this huge pool of options, so you end up with... very little of any actual use
Speaking on Books- Most Recipes i find to be very superfluous and if anything, just a nuissance. Improvised Armors, Improvised weaponry, Improvised etc etc.
And you cant make any of them, because they need recipes which are hard and rare to find- in part because of what i mentioned above
So you cannot make these really cool and creative items, and by the time you CAN?
You got better items and means to fix them, so they become very redundant.
I’ve found tools, materials, and recipe magazines in garbage bags (trash cans and bins + dumpsters) so that probably influences their rarity in other loot tables
SO I am a little torn by it because in B41 I was a extreamly rare loot player so this still feels like a lot of loot, however I know a lot of people don't like that and aren't used to finding nothing. There is a lot more items in the game now so it kind of makes sense things we used to find all the time would be rarer.
I was looking at the crafting and yea on one hand it seems like you maybe shouldn't be able to see all these things that you can't craft yet due to not having the recipe. But on the otherhand (I run a server for friends who are new to the game so I get asked a lot of questions) it is nice letting newer players be able to see possibilities of things they might want to do in the future.
I feel like yea they might seem redundant but a lot of it is for the future when things start breaking down, or if you are doing a run that is as an example wilderness based it would makes sense to be able to fix them. Options are always good, but you can overwhelm a player (especially new) with too many.
Alot of options i find to be on the opposite.
Various types of armor that are great on day 1 but the moment you get set up and find armor in the wild, become wasteful dreg.
And by the time said future comes, i got a house stocked up with 10 machetes, Axes, a dozen guns and a pile of ammo, a huge variety of armor i found while looting, etc
So at that point, its just useless.
Its also things that are... Very simple to make? Like wrapping a baseball bat with barbed wire or picking out a stone to whet with.
I do like playing with extremely rare loot too, but i also welcome the change of the game meta. Yeah, most people packing up their stuff and leaving will leave little behind. They'd probably leave "non-essential" like books and misc things. And yeah, killing zombies who were once human with varying levels of strength, memory, and stages of rot is going to be really hard and take the wind out of your sails pretty quickly.
The devs are planning on adding a years later start iirc so in that case those improvised weapons will likely play a bigger role.
And you will come to find, im sure, that by then you have no use for them.
see i have a hard time living past a couple weeks lol so leveling skills is a issue for me so ill probably have to tinkle with those xp things or play on a lower difficulty
Unless they changed the way bite/scratch protection works then armour is all about the drip imo, I want to roll around in that bone armor, seems sick as heck
change nothing but muscle strain accumulation + weapon multi-hit being turned on and play with that for a while, makes a massive difference
why would i bother making a gas mask when a respirator is found after scrounging through a few garages
why would i bother finding recipes for making an axe, when i can just find one after looking for an hour or so
especially because by the time i find either recipe, i have a dozen of said items that are better than the craftable equivalent.
The Recipes just withhold creativity and starting options that are good for getting a foot into the apocalypse IMO.
A lot of it is for MP servers, they want servers to idealy last for around 80ish years without wipes (that is their end goal) - so at some point you won't be finding things and have to rely on crafting things. eventually we will have human NPCs that will take loot too, and that means there will be less things for you to horde (or make you more of a target). it is future proofing their builds so they don't have to redo things later on I think
It’s also for b43. Eventually, with npcs, loot will be a lot rarer, so you gotta make your own. You could maybe also have npcs make some parts for you

its just me being a dingleberry and putting myself in silly situations completely a me issue not the game lol.. and im playing default apoc for unstable feedback stuffs other than some other changes, usually i use multihit but i like the way combat feels now so i have been keeping it off .
I think it also dependent on where im living too, i noticed i live longer in the country but right now im in muldrag being bullied and pushed into the forest by zombers

I believe removing the need for recipes would very very much help with that alot more
More people could build necessary items and as is a very common theme for multiplayer servers, people hoard things. Especially recipes like these.
So they will grow rare and needlessly so, making longevity alot harder for new players. Thinking on those points alone, i am firmly pro recipe-requirement removal

mmm possibly - the problem I have seen in other games like Rust as an example, they did away with the recipe system (blueprints) and you would see people in the highest tier gear within the first hour blasting new players away on the first day of a wipe. They ended up bringing it back because of that reason, though modified quite a bit. Granted this isn't a pvp game at it's core (even though there seems to be quite a few servers that run pvp), but it has some parallel's I think.
I am not against it, but maybe there is a better way of doing it (they already have it so if you are a high enough level the recipe is moot as you will know how to make it just based through knowledge/skill)
They also want to make it so not every player is a jack of all trades type, and have people really specialize and recipes help do that.
you can forage for all recipes in b41 already, the point isn't to make as few obstacles as possible to becoming a god, the point is that you have to actually try

Yea that too, my brother recently foraged a How To Generators mag in B41
you can literally just find all the recipe magazines through foraging, i've found generator mag, herbalist, bunch of the recipes, even some modded mags like solar when i added them in. unironically a skill issue

yeah they'll likely either just do that with schematics or make it so there's trial-and-error creation mechanics for figuring out how to make recipes lol. it is literally day 2 of an unstable build with the largest crafting overhaul the game has ever had and you're just demanding they quit all of it because it annoys you personally

Recipes build scarcity which could add to the economy and social aspects of a server, as an example in classic world of Warcraft on a fresh realm if you are a blacksmith and you are able to get the lionheart helm recipe, everyone is coming to you to craft it - this allows you to either do it for tips or do it for a fee, adds social dynamics. And the thing they seem to be basing their crafting system on is Star Wars Galaxies which has a similar parts system - this allowed (for example) certain folks to build the best blaster or speeder and you had to go to them to be able to get it.
In SP I could see you being able to talk to NPCs and then telling you that you gotta visit this blacksmith at this location (marking on your map maybe?) the be able to get your highest quality claw hammers, and then you make journey l, which adds story to your game.

I was in Ekron, and I knew about the campsites that were already there, but I was just wondering what buildings have a decent chance of tents spawning in.
When people are pushed to specialize it is more likely - plus not ever server is pvp as I said. Most of the servers I have played on were pve, most of them were community driven (especially the permadeath ones)

People are severe fiends for their recipes and will not share them.

thanks - the naming is nice, but it just takes one instance of forgetting which key it is and then i'm sitting there for ten minutes manually binary searching a keyring to figure out which key i want and then have to figure out which key i want to drop and it's just so much tedium

Doesn't take much to get them up and running, it is just changing a filepath. And if they are active mod devs (like Braven) they will be on the ball with it
yeah true some dont need any changes. but also some seem redundant especially "I dont need a lighter" being updated but its already in vanilla now
TIS was adamant that the 41>42 transition would be less painful than the 40>41 transition, and that turned out to be basically true, modders just had to check if their mod got broken by the update and otherwise just put it in the respective folder
the real test will be when multiplayer gets re-enabled and everyone has to double check if their shit works in MP properly

you get an m9, 5 mags, and a box of ammo to play around with the new aiming system. it's absolutely nicer than the old system but you're not going to get shit-all done without starter aiming levels on a pistol still

Really? I took wakeful and ignored restless sleeper or any negative sleeping perks, and it felt like I wasn't getting drowsy until midnight to 1am in zomboid
Btw anyone else noticed that some gas pumps at gas stations run out of fuel? I filled my flatbed and the tank no longer has gas in it and I can't fill my gas tanks
A few days ago in game I woke up at like 2-3am so maybe my sleep schedule is just scuffed. I don't take any negative sleep traits though
And yea one of the pumps in my gas station (I am based above the gas station in echo creek) emptied out really quick
Yeah I've noticed I've been waking up late into the night maybe the devs have tweaked wakeful to take advantage of the new darkness, but I don't think I've noticed the getting tired quickly
Could be alcohol, poor temperature management, or not handling exertion well. I don't think muscle strain is tied to fatigue but it might be.

What are you wearing? If you're getting the temperature moodles (and fatigue works the same way it does in B41, that's a toss into the air) then that might be giving a pretty big multiplier to your fatigue gain
Wonder if it's an issue with the new fluid system, can't view how much gas is in a pump but if it keeps happening I might look into a way of making gas infinite
I've also noticed batteries draining on their own I wonder if that's a bug or a intended change even if its intended the drain feels too quick

Both it seems - just looking at the Apoc settings in the Custom Sandbox Mode. It is rng as heck (and I kind of dig that). I think alarm battery decay is like normal batteries but I am unsure at all, it could be house alarm batteries tbh.

Just a quick fyi I don't mind what they're going for especially since I know that rideable animals like horses are in the way, but if there are limits on gas and battery drain it feels strange to have it implemented this early on maybe wait until there's alternate light sources like a torch and alternate travel options e.g: horses or even a bicycle

The idea, at least for gas, is to push you to new locations I think. Having a lack of lightsource with this new lighting is a bit sketch though

I might be the only one on this opinion but I'd love it if cars, gas and batteries etc has decay obv there'll be people upset about that especially the car nuts in the community, but when these things might be considered or added in the future it'll just add way more to the already immersive experience pz offers

Wow, wait, how long were you living there/gas usage? That really surprises me. I remember my first 2 year playthrough in 41 was at the Fallas Lake gas station and I never ran out of gas.
No but gas drain seems higher and pumps can empty, dunno about generators or water collectors
Literally 2 days the first pump I siphoned from to fill my car tank emptied on 1 car alone fair enough it was heavy duty with a high gas tank but still

@mild atlas gas doesn't go bad yet, that won't be implemented till later.
@civic drum Uh I am on like day 11 on this character, and basically since I started. I fueled 2-3 cars worth + 4 gas cans before it ran out. Check my picture above it shows the new gas settings, there is a chance it can have very little gas in it on apoc settings.

Huh, interesting. My longest B42 play has been 30 days, and in that one, never ran out of gas in my one car. DIdn't even gas back up after the Day 1 gassing. I was using a mod car, however.

Ah checked the recent blog post it mentions that Batteries can behave oddly, also addresses the issue with the new ballistics systems which will apparently be addressed in the new year if any gun nuts were concerned about that
apparently, there’s a cave system near or in the military outpost west of Rosewood according to an earlier discussion (https://discord.com/channels/136501320340209664/1318769570731003936). Haven’t seen it myself or if it varies per world so I can’t help verify it

I too have done much driving and have so far just used up just under a quarter of a tankish on the heavy duty with large tank

I've hardly noticed my tank draining at all and I've been using a heavy duty flatbed, although it did seem to drain quicker on a standard vehicle but I think that's just due to a small gas tank have you checked your vehicles gas tank at all? - also standard apoc settings

Farms in general will probably be in high demand, I myself have picked livestock farmer and claimed a farm with chickens, sheep's and pigs

Hear me out guys, "fast metabolism" and " always hungry" (or whatever the name is) is a super legit combo. One makes your char need to eat more and the other reminds you to do so. Second one literally becomes advantageous trait and still gives you free trait points

Idk, ive had issues with keeping my characters weight up even after downing high calorie foods without that trait and only hearty appetite which btw I feel like is way too overtuned in b42 I'm constantly hungry

At the moment I'm turn between that one pump gas station between Brandenburg and Riverside, the rest area gas station on the same highway, or a farmhouse I found that's near nothing at all and would be a pain in the ass to live at, but has a really nice layout.
I hope craft helper going to get updated soon. Its too hard with the current hud.

I myself picked a farmhouse by fallas lake, because its got a chicken coop, 2 animal fields and room for a 3rd one to be built as well as a storage shed and an well.

I think it's fine and removes the pain of the whole right click menu functionality which is an improvement, but I do agree it can still be fleshed out further and some form of guide like craft helper would go miles to better helping to explain the new recipes and crafting chains
hmm interesting - in B41 (basically the same trait build I am now) I would go to bed around midnight and wakeup at 6am. In B42 it seems all over the place. I have been fighting zombies since about 7am and am currently drowsy and it is 7pm
I was expecting b42 to remove requirement for craft helper, turns out it triples it. Ofc not fully released yet but still.
Build 42 does feel pretty intrusive right now with the new crafting and building but I've not had time to explore it yet

If you've ever seen the game vintage story it's got an amazing handbook, which helps a ton to explain its crafting mechanics and has recipes for every item etc feels like pz or b42 needs something similar to that
I just believe tracking required items properly using craft helper is plenty enough.
Plus cleaning rags and ripping clothing is another level of pain now, slightly upsetting

I do remember seeing in one of the blog posts about crafting, is to use the old rails for crafting and making makeshift weaponry as well wonder if they'll expand on that and bring back the idea of a tech tree
yea im currently in debug so i can plan the areas that the train will stop at then i have the big task of runing the whole track to get the X & Y cords for the spile path to follow

Apperantly they have implemented the API for agressive animals that attack you, you know what that means? a whole new WORLD of enemy mods, including things like monsters, mutants, and zombified animals, think like resident evil monsters, special infected, and lots more
could make it destructible with a sledgehammer, adds progression to unlocking more of the map
trains are notoriously loud as shit is an issue plus you'd be announcing yourself to almost the entire map by moving around even without the horn, plus there are car crashes and stuff on the tracks

The rest area turned out to be amazing. There's a perfect fenced off house, with an immediately adjacent farming plot that's already fenced off. Also, a basement loaded with crates full of tools and crafting materials.

Muscle strain is a good mechanic, it just needs lowered in sandbox to not be severe. I set mine to around 0.5-0.6
Well weapon masteries meaning something good is nice, problem starts at getting better taking a life time. Grinding it without xp buff is just rough
The good thing about the muscle-strain mechanic is that you can scale it down. I have mine at around 0.75ish
Good thing about it is pushing and stomping is kinda backdoor of it.

Yeah the default setting needs to be changed to something like 0.5. I think more people will start to like it the more they try it out and adjust it to their liking.

Building & crafting stuff with carpentry gives xp, I believe that misc activities like sawing logs down gives xp as well, it's meant to discourage mass dismantling for servers and give more meaningful ways of gaining the xp cause just dismantling every house on a street is boring and eventually you'd run out of stuff to dismantle so nobody can gain xp at that point especially on mp servers

I don't mind the 30 day suffering arc in multiplayer, can always yell curses from a rooftop and sitting there with legs broken, sniping at zeds with a rifle but when you are seconds from death without having a splint on hand because you did not expect to break your limbs on a sunday drive

You can play with steam remote play splitscreen but it's terrible you both need a extremely good Internet connection and 1 of you needs a controller

But keep up the good work, I have not played b42 unstable personally yet but the mere knowledge that it is out has made me wake up each day after with more joy than someone "mentally less joyful" usually does. Cat's Eyes is definitely worth its weight in gold now, night fighting/navigation outside without a light source is a death sentence without that trait

fatigue goes from 0 to 1 ingame
if you reduce it by 5, then you get back to 0 as negative values are not allowed, unlike calories count
0 being no fatigue, 1 being ridiculously tired
smallest increment is 0.001
i don't think when an item says -5 fatigue it actually reduces fatigue by -5
for liquids it does, values are stated "per 1000mL"
so yes if you drink less than 1000mL, logic dictates you get a prorata of the value in the lua file
but i havent bothered to test this logic as i am not a professional game tester contracted with indiestone

ingame, the values that dictate your character's moodle are set on various scales. Calories go up to 3000 point and down to -800, afaik. Some values go up to 50, others 10 etc
devs just operated on wrong scale when defining fatigue (tiredness) changes
i only looked at liquids here, solids dont behave unexpectedly so i havent bothered
you can see all those values and how they behave in game for yourself through debug mode

as for my personal opinion, coffee doesnt actually give you any rest IRL. It just shunts the effects of fatigue partly, and temporarily, by influencing the secretion of hormones, and by blocking some neuroreceptors
i think itd be cool if coffee in the game modeled that by counteracting the debuffs of fatigue instead of actually changing that value
so that after approx 1h youre just as tired as you were before your cup
Has mixing of liquids decreasing fatigue been tested? Like could you get away with mixing cola into your water bottle by pouring in 100ml worth into your water bottle to see if it has the same -fatigue values as it does in the full bottle

for some reason you cant wash yourself from a rain barrel and if you cant plumb, the second the water goes off you cant wash anywhere

which CPU does it have? Zomboid is particularly CPU heavy compared to other more "modern" games, I notice it reaching up to 20% on my CPU when it barely hits 10% in much more demanding games

Fair, can agree its very magical when you can just will it to work, through any material, and also have it magically be disease-free. With industrial machines being usable, I could see some industrial level water purification in the future, and even makeshift ones via those camping tricks to filter water

Crude whetstones are currently uncraftable btw so the only options for sharpening right now are on looted whetstones and grindstones
you can do both in the assenbly crafting menu
Feels like maintainance and tailoring are even more important now ngl
you need level 1 maintenance though, and that seems to level extremely slow through melee

you can make a grindstone you need level 2 knapping though for the chisel or you find a masons chisel

I can see what you’re trying to do, but personally, I wouldn’t recommended it. instead, I suggest making a really large pen so that they have lots of space to move around. You can try testing it yourself but I doubt open space will work
So I only did one test yesterday on that in debug. There's a chicken farm on Echo Creek that's filled with chickens. I opened the gates, went to Muldraugh, then just fast forwarded about 15 days. When I went back, most are already gone

zombers arent attracted to their noises unless you have that enabled , so for my farm because i wanted them to just roam around i just made a sector out of the add zone thingie and they should stay in there so just make sure the place doesnt have zombers in it if you want them to wander around an area

If TIS made it realistic enough then the animals probably wouldent straight "die" as in they'd proabbbly be suffering especially if its a bredthrough domesticated one im sure there would be clear signs a player would need to put down a friendly animal before it suffered too far but idk animals are very fresh so most likely not
