Help with steam deck controls?

I was playing, and perhaps I should have left it alone, because it worked initially. But I changed my control scheme, and lost the ability to use the d-pad or anything other than the mouse function for that matter to navigate containers. I have reset my controls in game, via steam, and redownload the game and this issue still persists. Google returns basically nothing for me, so I'm wondering what needs to be bound or what setting I am missing to bind this function back to the directional pad using steams virtual gamepad.

What shows up when you test the D-Pad in the game Options > Controller section?

And how did you restart your game settings exactly?

Deleted the settings file. The d-pad shows 11-14 when testing it.

Sorry which settings file? There are multiple.
It is possible you did not delete the actual file related to the controller.

I would suggest just deleting everything except the "Saves" folder in your Home/Zomboid folder

Thank you for trying to help. If anyone else stumbles upon this and is looking for a solution, I resolved this by using the developer settings in the drop-down for the game in the steam library to reset the controller configuration.
