after a bit of skimming on the Internet, seems that many schools across the world have Winter Breaks on the 3rd or 4th weeks of December (before Christmas) and many employees who can are likely to use their vacation/sick/personal days around Christmas (and I don’t mean for B42, just in general for the holidays). Likely to be some far-fetched thinking and yapping on my end, but I am a little curious if that'll be of any influence on their decision to release unstable sometime on the 3rd week or early in the 4th week of December to get as many play-testers as possible for the initial launch (perhaps this was the case for B41 back in December of 2021?) unless a substantial number of testers isn’t a concern or goal

So I ran into a bug and I am not sure what mod might be causing it - two different players have randomly gained smoker trait, but I don't have dynamic traits mod on

no, but even if they did it should just make them sick
can't gain the smoker trait by default unless you choose it at the beginning

because that could be indicating a bug/glitch if they both gained smoker at same time
I know that, I was thinking if they did smoke it, something in a mod conflict or whatever may have caused it
originally we thought it might be due them both eating candy cigarettes' from sapph's cooking mod
that could cause it
but I removed the trait on one of them, and he hasn't eaten them since and it just repopped up on his traits list
maybe the "eating" cigs are just smoking but with different stats gained from "eating" them
When I was playing pretty heavily on a hardcore server a few months back I was living on those cigs and never had the issue
so unless the bug was introduced between then and now I don't see it being the cause
so all sapph's cooking mod does is just reskin the cigarette, and just redo the stats from -stress -panic -depression to -hunger -stress

but if you have trait mods installed it could still see the candy cig as a normal cig, which could give them the smoker trait from eating candy cigs

if the mods arent causing it then it would have to be a very strange game error/ bug
these errors are very hard to determine the cause of due to the fact that they cant be replicated
yup and no actual error popping up in the log so I am not sure

for example if you make a new sever with no mods then on one hand if it doesnt happen again, then it could be the lack of mods, or it could be a rare bug and you just got lucky, and if you DO play with mods it could never happen again due to its rarity or it could happen at any time
yea feels like it would be near impossible to track down
if the list is really really big i would assume its a mod incompatibility but i would look at the relevant mods that could be effecting it like smoking mods, cigarette mods, or other mods that effect the gaining of traits
i would look through mods that i think are related but if i cant find any then i would remove the smoker traits from them and keep playing, if it happens again make sure your friends tell you when it happened so you might be able to find why its
happening.
maybe you could check the server logs if it happens again and you might see the cause of it

The only thing that I can think of it it might be interacting weird with Green Fire, this is the first time I have had Green Fire and Sapph on at the same time - but I have been on other servers with them both and no issue
yeah i think a mod incompatability causes this because if it where to happen in the base game then some bug reports would happen relating to it

i searched "randomly getting smoker trait pz" and it didnt show anything relating to it so i assume its not a problem/ bug in vanilla
only mods I have related to smoking would be Green Fire, Longer Smoke Time, and Smoker's Cough so likely something in there I would imagine
yeah i would look further into the mods to see if it does something you dont know about
the first player who gained the smoker trait died not too long after getting it, and hasn't gotten it again. The second player who gained it hasn't died (the one I removed the trait from) regained it tonight (no smoking or eating candy cigs)
i think the game thinks that he is supposed to have the smoker trait, so when you got rid of it it gave it to him again, but your friend that died has a new character so it didnt give him the smoker trait
maybe the game runs a check for traits every night/ time so it can give traits to you
so when it saw he lost the smoker trait it gave it back to him when the traits updated
but i would still check if you have any mods on you didnt mean to add because you did say you have alot of mods
I bet the first mod for unstable build 42 when it releases is a dog mod or cheat mod
moodle mod imo, cause people seem to be really upset by the new ones for some reason lol

Otherwise they should specified that they are refering to a "new wild generation" on existent areas.
Also if this will be confirmed... Than I'm curious to see if some modders will try to allocate some "modded maps" outside of the existent vanilla perimeter, also if I think this is something that is not doable yet.

Not on launch. But we're supposedly going to eventually get means to preserve foods and use fermenting barrels to make preservatives.

That would explain the weird barrel I saw in the last video of the Thursdoid
past Thursdoids have stated food preservation techniques. We’ll be able to make vinegar (Brewing) like a user mentioned above and make jars for preservation (Glassmaking). In regard to making dehydrated meat sticks or beef jerky, not entirely sure yet. If there’s no meat drying rack (yet? ever?) or if there’s no blueprint (if that’s a crafting concept that stuck or not), then there’s alternative means such as an oven or dehydrator after salting the meat.

Yeah. The way I see it: from their inability to collapse from shock and blood loss, you'd need a lot more dakka to stop something that's already dead from moving. Unless it's a ballista bolt, bows and arrows are more than likely to turn zombies into walking pin cushions(scary thought).

I know it sounds like I'm just pulling shit out my ass, but it was one of the staff talking on here awhile back. They said horses weren't featured in this update because they're more complex than the other animals because you'd have to deal with stuff like riding, saddles, other horse related things. Also combine that with the fact they've shown zero horses during this whole B42 process it just makes sense they won't e adding horses soon.

you can still take on hordes, just it won't be the same like using the chair cheese etc resting getting back endurance, fighting again and so on, this loop will break

yeah, would make sense for exercise fatigue and muscle strain to consider fitness and strength (likely what they're going for), and maybe it'll encourage more players to engage with the exercise mechanic (burpees, push-up, squats, etc..)
