#Louisville Crossing Forest Base

House complete. Cabbages, radishes, carrots, potatoes, and tomatoes planted.
Will plot out workshop dimensions and build the inner wall next.
very cool idea, good luck on more of your builds π
Cool
Good luck with this build, I really love it
Built a little workshop/shed. I don't think I'll bother with a garage. Security isn't an issue and any vehicle I work on will be out of the rain anyways because of that little awning. So I'm happy with it. I still need to make a run into Westpoint to fetch some knickknacks and furniture to make the shed look like a workshop. A trip to the auto-shop just outside my property will have everything I need for that.
Other than that, I need to grab a few doorknobs and hinges for the shed doors and my wall gates. Going to really stock up and probably go steal one of the good condition vehicles I've seen around town.
Have begun constructing the inner wall. Once this is done I won't have to worry about zombie attacks at all for a while and can begin building the outer wall afterwards. It will probably have to be done during winter. My farm is going to come in clutch for that. I've grown a pretty wider variety of veggies and I'll work out a crop rotation to make sure I always have a variety.
Having said that, I need to get a second generator and set the fuel station up and fill my 20 or so jerry cans to keep my place lit up properly and my veggies frozen. I'll take up trapping in the forest once my walls are complete so I have a source of good meat. And forage while I travel to get that up, but it seems to level quickly.
Set up work lights and did a fuel run.
The fuel station is up and running and I can permanently run my generator for light and to power my freezing appliances just in time for my first harvests.
Work lights are extremely underwhelming but they're better than nothing. I'll have to keep my eye out for lightbulbs from now on.
The wall grows. Soon I'll have legitimate security and can sleep without wondering if a random zombie will somehow manage to find my house and break in through one of the windows.
Beginning to produce my own food.
I'm posting the ridiculous process of building one watchtower on my wall.
First you build the floor at the top of the wall.
But wait. You can't place the wooden pillar for some reason. Also if you build the fence first, SOME of the corners build their own half-pillar that blocks building the full sized pillar anyways. So build the pillars you can first.
In order to build the pillar on the SE corner, you have to build more floor for some reason...
Now that the pillars are built, build up to the roof-level.
But now in order to bring wood up, I need to build to the stairs from further down the wall. Easily done.
Now I can build the fence up top. But again, another hurdle. You can't build on floor connected to stairs. and in order to build after you've destroyed the stairs without leaving a floor tile floating, you need to have the floor tile be part of the roof or you'll need to build more stairs to reach that one...
So we use a sheet rope. Now once we break the stairs to allow the building of the fence, we can get back up again.
Only thing to do after building the fence is to leap down unfortunately.
Now to finish the wall. Left gaps to carry wood through but it's shaping up quickly. Nearly done now.
Inner wall complete now. I legitimately no longer have to worry about zombies while sleeping. Not that I was very worried being where I am. But now there's legitimate security.
i'm going follow your plans π
do you use mod Irrigation pipes for farming and water supply [B41+] ? they wating your crop everyday, you dont have to water them or wait for rain
omg vanilla! Run for your life!! running
i usually start my game with nomad rv. i like make sense how to start... spawn in road as if arrived section. i'll see if i could get that... small area like your map and try start living there of course after grab saw, nails, hammer, and axe. if you're curious https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2843308688
I haven't seen a single zombie there since I started building
Was just sleeping in my car without interruptions
So as far as isolated spots with water near to towns and main roads go. It's a terrific spot.
i'll try that, i just found military base far south west. my toon already bited, i was run sucide. when i arrive i expected heavy zombile like prison or hosptial. but turn out so few of them i was able to wipe them out. military make good base but... no seeds. but still being bited, worthless so i run around aimless until i found hoard "guys! here fresh human, dinner time!!" they chomp my toon up
your watch tower look like this one
Yea that's basically what I was going for. I always build aesthetic roleplay settlements when settlement building is a game mechanic. Fallout4 and Kenshi were a couple of my other favorites to make lived-in looking homesteads in.
i made it arrive site where you build your base then my game crash. i reboot game and find myself back to start. after spend hours to get there. ugh i guess i'll start new game
I love this base idea
This is my style of base
I tried your idea of building a base in the same zone as my main base. When I arrived, the first thing I did was add stairs and a single wall to build a rain collector up top, so the water would collect and flow down. After that, I removed the stairs to get the wood planks back and added two more rain collectors for a 10x2 farm plot (20 plots in total). I'm planting cabbages. I brought plenty of supplies in my big trailer, but I forgot a sink and a few other things, like an axe, a power generator, and some miscellaneous items. I'll leave the trailer behind and take the van back to town to gather more supplies and canned food. If I find a sledgehammer, I'll head to the nearest storage units, hoping to find some fishing gear.
Cabbages are honestly by far the best crop. All the other ones feel like such a pain to wait for.
I get 2 cabbage crop harvests before a single harvest of anything else. And the yields are larger as well.
Oh shoot you got irrigation. I wish I had that lol
SIGH i dying got jumped by zombie hoard. i clean out area before enter buiding then exit they're everywhere
i'll try again
I'm infinitely bogged down with chores. I've started stockpiling wood where I plan to build the second wall but there's skills I'd like to grind before I secure the forested area where I trap. So for now I'll have to leave it. At the bare minimum I want to get tailoring 8 first.
Never knew a farm was so demanding tbh. Having lots of crops really eats up your time. Not sure how winter will affect things. I know water will be more of an issue, and I'd like to get a second antique stove for my bedroom. But my additional to-do list is pretty short now.
yes
do you have mod that allowed you use cart to carry all supplies to reduce your character exhaust for carry all logs?
ah! for some reason i lost interest in play project zomboid. i has not been play for past few days. maybe i'll go back soemetime soon
I play when I'm not feeling tired after work or if I'm on days off. Sometimes the game feels like a lot of work though lol
Have a second antique oven to heat my upper floor when I sleep during winter.
Propane hunt is going well.
Found a sledge
Nice house tho, my house are basically quite "square-ly"
I want to build this structure the next time I do a character.
oooh lol spongebob house
This is the distance I travel for trapping.
I couldn't eyeball exactly 70 tiles away but this is at least 70, maybe a little further.
what bait did you use?
Cabbage. I have carrots. If the carrots start going bad before I can eat them I'l start usibg those instead
Have 2 ICE freezers full of veggies and rabbits
Rabbits are over 1000calories so they're really good for stews if you use "random game" 2 or 3 of the ingredients used.
When I have enough propane I'll try to get my metalworking up to work on cars.
hmm i should start planting carrots
They're like frustrating cabbages. I feel like the wiki is wrong for growth tbh. I was able to do 2 full cycles of cabbage before my carrots were seed bearing.
i'll post my base too later on :3
ye, at this rate i'm gonna be like cabbage merchant in avatar lol
Old Cerise Wagon is pretty busted from my last trip into town. Sucks leaving behind a 4 seater with good cargo, but I swapped to this pickup in great condition. And there is another Cerise Wagon in town I believe is in great condition if I need one later on.
Took a busted window from another vehicle to cover up the smashed out one from stealing it.
Robbing the gun store. Why not...
Roughly 100kgs or more of scrap metal for 2 metalworking levels.
Now to read Metalwork2
Can read while checking morning and 10pm traps.
Back to work. I was surprised how many refills propane tanks give. I should have enough to clear the entire bridge.
Pruning
@acoustic sigil
thanks
Step by step. np
Cleared the highway wrecks and towed the in-tact wrecks away to a spot where I can train mechanic on them later.
Used the salvaged scrap from clearing the bridge to make the ground level of my homestead more secure. Need to grind one more level to be able to install a security fence around my front door.
you has been busy. i didnt play project zomboid for awhile. it's all youtube b42 fault... or its' b43
did you pick up any working cars you find? XD
you need to build a garage
@oblique bane
Those are my current cars.
and that's my little garage lol
Metalwork4
1 to go.
Caught 6 rabbits that morning.
I havent built garage yet hehe
how do you build road?
I'm using Building Menu mod
ahhh i was assue it's gravel that found in warehouse and pour them but... sound so much work
Actually yeah, you need water, bucket and asphalt / concrete to build roads. Pretty sure it's from Building Menu mod. I don't think vanilla can build roads except for just wooden and metal flooring?
still alot of work :p
Yea but without roads or any flooring, the ground will grow grass, sapling and eventually trees
my lastest base like month ago i stop play. i dunno why i stop mmm
If it's too much work for you, can try zupercart mod. It made transporting materials really easy
yeah i got them
to build wall, i lay down wooden floor on ground before build the wall
I use log wall and reduced log weight mod. I can't be bothered by carrying those super heavy logs all the time :B
i feel ya
i probably stop pay cuz i heard b42 going release this year. we're at 11th month. so time's nearby'
play*
Ooh yeah, I get ya
But I really want to clear Louisville before B42 release
It's my end-goal
i remember see in pz chat talk about someone clean out rosewell and build massive fence around city
rosewood is easy to clear out, it only took me 7 days to clear from day 1. Massive fence is uhhh... I'd do it if I'm in creative mode or zero weight materials
haha i never do anything creative or respawn. i die. i die peroid. start new map
new b42 talk about they can push fence - yikes. hope they cant push log fence or plank fence
I usually restart new map when I die but this time I'm determined to clear LV without any cheating
Even if I die, I'll keep clearing LV XD
Time to make a sturdier fence...if there exist any
metal wall maybe, seen that on youtube. probably mod
i recall b42 talk about able to craft bricks. maybe can build brick wall/fence
i saw on YouTube about crafting in B42. you can build brick wall it would make your place much safer!
Cool! But I'm pretty sure I will have installed another mods for that XD
Trying to not be asleep after work one day to get some more metalworking XP in
Really want my security cage on my front porch
Did some lumber gathering before work today. The stockpile definitely isn't large enough to complete a wall outright but it's getting pretty big lol.
im shock that zed can damage wood wall. i had rebuilt wall few time
Fuuuuuuuck there's no chain link big fence single door...
I guess I'm not building a security cage on my porch.
Not going to grind to lvl7 metalworking just to have a mismatched security door.
Repaired my vehicles and my trailers. Basically set for full on sustainability now.
All that's really left to do now is to build my outer wall and a small warehouse as metalworking and mechanic parts are heavy and take up a lot of storage.
Cleared some brush. Using the wood to start my warehouse. Didn't get very far though. Will have to go and get some of the lumber from my outer wall's stockpile area.
whats that small building on the right?
Storage shed. Tiny warehouse.
Going to go rob a bunch of shelves from the auto mechanic shop near my place and build crates inside. I just have way too much stuff these days.
Bumping so I can find this again lol. Haven't played in a week or something.
gasp
Gonna boot it up now. Have to finish building my warehouse anyways
B43 is apporaching... and i dying
8 and a half crates full of metalwork materials. (510kgs)
Now I can devote my garage specifically to auto parts, and keep materials in the warehouse to draw from as needed.
Finished
Also towed a very good condition truck back to my junkyard to take the car parts off of when I have nothing to do.
i also love building in this game, i love the designs of the base. i'd highly recommend using the building menu mod to make your builds stand out from the rest of the basic wood bases. otherwise looks very nice
Thanks. I try to do what I can with what the game offers but it's definitely limited.
It's Christmas. Decided to bring back a good condition truck as a gift I guess.
i have no idea how you can stay alive longer. i always end up dying after month or so
I don't really fight zombies unless I need to I guess.
Killed 2100 so far in like 6 months
Not only that but hanging out in a base growing crops and building is really safe lol
There's a point where the game just clicks and you completely understand your character's limitations at any given state of your playthrough. Just being careful and thorough is usually enough to stay out of situations you can't handle.
Using vehicles as mobile shelters, even to sleep in is a huge help too. Just park against the wall so they can't get at your door after you've led them away. (Not recommended regularly but it can save your ass.)
The biggest killer is being sleepy or endurance-fatigued
I don't really wanna build the outer wall no more lmao
It bridges across these 3 screens. It will have to be absolutely humungously long.
Not only that but opening and closing the gate every single time I leave my base will be another added annoyance for legitimately no reason at all seeing as the first wall offers literal perfect security against the exceedingly rare (3 so far this entire playthrough) zombies that are debatably occupying the area outside my existing inner wall.
nice job, since i die earlier i has remove most of mods. get ready for b42 and play again build base at rosewood - https://discord.com/channels/136501320340209664/1312898258108153997 dont know if you has seen my latest
Ahhhhh bored right now. Taking a break.
Ok
lol ok
α΅α΅
@steady pelican now b42 is out, what do you think as far
so many ppl stealing my location xD
I ain't played it yet. Got burnt out. Playing Barotrauma again now lol
i got killed every 2 or 3 day game time. they're get too hard
then recently they knew release yay!
i has been try start blacksmith. it's nightmare to try start.
Think it's better for coop play now. Makes communities more viable since the skills are split up more
You'll have to split up trades and share materials more I think. Would love to see what multiplayer is like when it's ready.
Found this looking for a showcase for the base at the WP-LV bridge
lol oof
I haven't made a showcase for it but it'd feel weird at this point to make one.
I mean I hadn't started playing this game until this year so, I missed this when it was new
I gotta say, I'm much happier living on croncrete where pruning problem plant-life isn't a near daily necessity.
Saving brush clearing for only when I need wood has been a massive mercy
I'm just going to post the new location here instead lmao
You can just dig the dirt with a shovel and no grass will grow there again
I'm not sure if this also prevents tree/bush growth but, probably
if not I'm pretty certain gravel and sand do prevent brush growth
Transfering items and cleaning up currently. Trying to gain weight off of fishing but fishing is very inconsistent. Some weeks I do well and can gain a few pounds off of what I catch, and other times I can't even catch anything to eat and have to cook bait from the traps.
I think you can gain weight from avocados too and you can forage those
not sure how often they spawn though
cool project
Abandoned game for a while. The tope two levels remain "outdoors" no matter what I do. Really annoying me.
I've even knocked down the stairs and sealed the floors individually for both upper levels so it isn't a stair issue.
Used sheet ropes to check the completely sealed in floors from the outside. So idk. Really bummed me out that they still have issues like this where rooms aren't considered to be "indoors" for no apparent reason. Playing different things now. KSP, Barotrauma, and a bit of Helldiving.
