Just got game, screen is black on startup but game is running

at one point i got it to display after i restarted my pc and unplugged my second monitor (but i dont think the second monitor actually had anything to do with it) and i tabbed out and tabbed back in and its not displaying it again

Can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid?

I would uninstall the game first then check Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid to make sure there aren't any left over files or folders, I know i've had that issue before and checking that before reinstalling helped me

I did try this and all the folders did remain so i deleted them and reinstalled them with no luck

ah okay, so idk if it would be this but

have you checked to make sure your game display is set to your main monitor that you want to play with

and the resolution is set correctly with NVIDIA

Yeah i checked it i have two monitors so i tried unplugging one then reinstalling the game and no luck

Try going to the Zomboid folder again and edit the options.ini file with a text editor.
In that file, edit the fullscreen=true line to fullscreen=false
Then try launching the game again.

yeah that worked, at one point i wanted to launch it windowed mode and i was watching like a million videos on how to do it. i should've just checked the launch options 😭 thanks alot

You can try switching it to Borderless mode now, assuming you want to have the fullscreen experience

can you help me i have a map in PZ that i have been playing for a over a year now but suddenly went black it still has the icons like the moodles but doesn't allow to move, right click, or do tasks like eating a potato. please help I do not want to start over my favorite game ever. (I use a gaming laptop with 1 screen)

Try either using Debug mode or a Cheat mod to teleport your character to a different location
