Tbh id say ditch it altogether and let the relevant combat and crafting stats govern this stuff. Long blunt stat would determine durbility loss of a baseball bat and woodworking or whatever would determine repair amount

You can also throw your voice to move zombies if you have two walkie talkies, so the sort of foundation for electrically powered traps is definitely there

Well, an electrician and an engineer would finally come in handy. The way I see it - it would be possible to make an automatic light on the base, sprinklers that would turn on at a certain time of day, motion sensors that would signal
that a zombie/another player or an animal has infiltrated your base
Maybe automated drinkers and feeders so that the animals on the base do not die while you are looting somewhere
they said the engineer profession is getting an update in B42 so more options for crafting electrical devices and systems

I really hope some content creators will get early access to build 42 that would a good sign the developers are getting more closer to completion
They will and most likely they have already but they cannot disclose anything related to it, I'm sure there is some policy regarding this and it's mainly for testing and feedback. You won't see content creators streaming videos of how nice it is to play B42 unstable while the rest boil over here 😉

And I like the idea of “insights.” If one were to read up on literature such as Baseball for Dummies, then surely that would improve one’s form + technique and grant them knowledge on the best angles to swing, diminish strain on the arms, etc.. which would then translate to a slight XP boost to Long Blunt
but then wouldn’t it be too easy to level up Long Blunt in vanilla after that, especially if you take other XP-boosting traits and/or occupations?
Yeah thats why i now feel like something like that would be better for very specific perks rather than XP boosting. Kinda like fallout magazine perks. It could even be done as something that just unlocks specific perks that are normally gained at certain levels, only early.
Like, just for another example you could have a first aid insight that speeds up bandaging or the increases the efficacy of a splint, stuff like that

I think they meant actual release but even so, development is not something you can clearly predict at all. Not meeting a date set out by one tweet for a free update is a stupid thing to get angry at anyone for. and all the items that can be looted, to otherwise be crafted on workstations and machines

Lots of people tend to forget that they are most likely also excited to finally release the update after such a long time
New animations being shown in the blog doesn't mean animations or other similar additions delay the release. It is not like the animator could instead work on code or whatever.
It should be obvious but the build has a list of things that must be in a minimally functional state, not to mention free of major, game-breaking bugs or it doesn't really make sense to release it.
Only thing we can reasonably hope for is B42 not being delayed into 2025

Rainwater is bad for you, at least until it washes out the air pollution. Same with snow. (Don't catch snow on your tongues until it's been snowing for a long time. Also, purportedly, freshly fallen snow after like a snow storm is good enough to consume)

sprinkler systems are hooked up to the city water supply, and would therefore go out when water goes out
then perhaps a DIY sprinkler system with tubing and components we can make/loot and the source of water being a rain collector barrel or something (I’m not too knowledgeable on the details)

B42 is the first update I will see released, which is funny because I have been playing for over a year now
and yet I have no idea how it works
When unstable builds are released, they're on a branch called "IWBUMS". This stands for "I Will Back Up My Save" & that is what you should do regardless of the answer
That said, in my experience it should be playable without constant fear of things suddenly exploding on you. If it does happen that's just a bug to report so it can be fixed & not happen on stable

Maybe it is just simpler. Disallow people from using toilets to get water from for drinking, even when it is plumbed from rain collectors from above.
when I played B41 unstable, it was actually pretty stable
some things didn't work too great, i had the occasional situation where trying to sit down wouldn't work, and menus not doing things as intended, but to actually play it wasn't that distracting
B42 unstable will likely be very playable
disallow water from both the toilet bowl and toilet tank? Toilet tank water might be fine, but perhaps they can make it have a chance of being tainted too

i find it odd that we can drink perfectly safe water from plumbing months after it's gone stagnant
having it stay potable forever makes water far less of a concern, especially when entering unexplored territory
Maybe the plumbing no longer makes magically filtered fresh water from rain collectors above. And now one must require boiling the water even after obtaining from plumbing.

plumbing collectors can be annoying depending on the situation but being able to instantly start pouring swimming pools of clean water is very powerful for little effort
maybe if we could have water barrels that need to be filled with clean water, that can then be plumbed
either that, or require a filtration system to be a result of a skill / crafting recipe
I agree with the stagnation system. However, I think it would also be reasonable to disallow certain water sources only after many months or a year. For instance: water from sinks, toilets, and bathtubs. After a year or so, the pipes would be filled with lead, mold, and bacteria that requires much more than boiling to purify + drink.
Also, rain collector barrels (which is crafted with garbage bags) should be changed every few months due to too much accumulation of microorganisms, bird poop, leaves, spores, and whatever else.
After reading all this again tho, I realize it would likely be too much micromanaging
honestly, having degrees of water sterilization could be cool
now that liquids have ratios and specific contents, i could see it being possible for there to be different contaminants that may require more effort than boiling to remove
like you said with bird poop, there could be solid matter in the water that needs to be physically filtered
engaging with that would indeed be very cool! If it’s too tedious tho, I’ll just hand the toilet-bathtub-bleach-water cocktail to unsuspecting players in MP servers 
also, we can’t forget to boil the milk we acquire from our cows! (random and related thought that popped into my head rn)

To answer this question: from my experience they are actually quite "stable" but will have bugs but not usually crashes. In my years of playing I haven't had any real save corruption (always back up your save regardless!) but there will be times within the beta that you might need to restart due to the way they changed things.

When I played first time B41 unstable it was really not that different from what was released on stable.
Unstable version is pretty much playable without major game breaking bugs, hence the wait for it.
And this is what should be understandable by everyone, bug fixing is very serious, not gonna enjoy the build if every 10 minutes it crashes and breaks.
and for water, a systems that governs over the state of liquids, after a predefined period of time, it drains or becomes tainted; time which can be adjusted in the sandbox settings
more in depth details can be achieved but the overall feeling is that water, as of now, is really easy to manage

Like you can have 'Bleach baths' for different types of dermatitis conditions but it is usually a VERY small amount your adding to the bathwater.
Its never really safe to drink bleach no matter how diluted it is tbh, it contains sodium hypochlorite which is the poisonous chemical they use in most bleaches, cleaners and disinfectants, if you were to keep ingesting this over time you'll more than likely feel sick consistently & die from it eventually, as it damages most of the soft tissue it touches, so mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, bowels
(hydrochloric acid is that acid our stomachs produce, mix that with bleach and you get chlorine gas)

an atypical dermatitis cause by an underlying systemic disease can't be cured with skin oils or creams, it needs oral or IV administration of different combinations of immunosuppressant drugs.

I had something like this going on in a commercial area (cant remember where now) and using the ladder mod, but it was far from an overpowered set up. Coming and going was often challenging, with zeds filling up the lower floors. Having different ways up and down all around the block of buildings was vital as i could lure em to one side and use another side to climb. The balance between having total safety in base but having trouble coming and going is fun
I have thought of that myself but I wonder, isn't that just gonna spoil you ? I mean, wouldn't it be more interesting and enjoyable discovering all of the new stuff by playing the game in normal mode ? finding out and learning how all the new machines, stations and everything that's new works and what to expect of it ?
hence, I think I will play it normally and use the debug command only in buggy situations where no other option is available (I.e stuck in car / RV etc)

i think the female model just has really scuffed shoulder weighting which makes it look thin ingame

Yeah of course, I think he exaggerated simply to say that he would prefered a different model approach, may be more curvous ecc.. and not imply it seems very anorexic.
Also from me nothing versus it, it's perfectly fine, also again there are some mods if someone want another approach.

yeah i wanted to try and fix it but i cant be bothered to make the clothes work
the female model has tons of seams as well its really annoying
cant wear tank tops because the texture stretches like crazy and then has a line down the back lol

Yeah, sound difficult for compatibility reasons, I suppose modders should do various different model and this would be an obstacle.
The reason is the fat trait for example, it's not immersive that if you get fat /obesity condition (I don't remember) you look exactly like others, it break immersion in my opinion.
But again.... This is something that could be left to mod I suppose...
Invest time on other game part give more interesting contents actually...
And if possible to don't activate home alarms because it create noise pollution and it is a significant environmental problem...

glad zombies in build 42 will have some spikes on them adding a better logic to the game
spiked armor to cause injuries to the player if they push them
And let's hope that comes around for zombies as well / other players, if they push or lunge at you. they take damage.
Im wondering if modders will be able to create other animals like wolves or bears.
Would be great to have wolves hunt the player like a random event or stumble upon a pack of them and they attack the player.

Absolutely... When Dev talked about the AnimZed release several years a go the said modders could be theorically be able to create Xenomorph with patience and skill 😂😂
Obviously this would be "a little" out of lore (just a little), but would expect bear and wolf's and who know? Bear zombies may be?

Honeslty hope on wolves and bears as mod, I can understand they generally escape from humans, but if togheter in packs, with wildboars and Bears that want protect their puppies would make wild life extreme immersive and dangerous...

I’ll transport the statue from Spiffo HQ to the large area of forest or park I’ve isolated just for the raccoons. Any other animals not considered a threat to raccoons are welcome. Gotta protect these little fellas

there are some easier methods of doing it but its definitely too late for them to do it at this point
the game already has too many clothing items at this point to make it not a giant pain in the ass
dynamic body mod already exists but its a java mod so you have to manually replace files
also not really mod compatible
It would take a lot of effort for something that's not super vital. I do think that visual differences based on the characters weight would be cool but that's probably further down the line
One day I do hope that is a standard part of the game for sure
