Like... They already have animal ai and animations, the whole crafting update that's supposed to replace looting. Having all of that but not a replacement for cars feels wrong
What do they provide from a crafting perspective? Recall that this was the intended “heart” of this update
Animal husbandry goes well with crafting. Horses go well with farm animals, but not necessarily crafting
The heart of the update is extending server's lives by giving players alternatives to looting after consuming all resources on the map. What happens when every car is broken and/or there's no more gas on the map? Just force players to walk from town to town. I did that in a server once and my god... never again.
I feel that an alternative way to move around the map is way more important than alternative ways of getting clothes (which is going to be included on the update)
It's way more possible for servers to run out of fuel or cars than clothes, tools, food and other stuff that the crafting update is currently focused on
Also we already saw that some gas stations might generate with no gas so alternative ways of moving are even more important lol
And horses are cool as hell and have become kind of an icon in zombie media thanks to The Last Of Us and The Walking Dead. A zombie game focused on open world survival without horses feels wrong

I don't disagree with this sentiment but I also think it's worth tempering expectations
From a realistic perspective people wouldn't have many reasons to travel from town to town in that situation anyhow imo. From a player perspective that's certainly not ideal
I think the configuration will be there to prevent gas from being an issue for servers that don't want it to be an issue. For the future horses definitely feel like a must, but idt they're a must for b42
Tbh, I think horses are coming eventually.
You can easily make horses a renewable resource mechanically, and they can easily be made just as mechanically difficult to maintain as any given car
they've expressed interest in horses many times, it just needs to be done right, which is a big ask
for now let's them focus on the 42
I don't think our discussion of horses here is going to somehow stop them from developing
I doubt for B42, I feel like horses are a behavioral AI tree animal so B43 and beyond imo
I'm sure horses require extra stuff like riding
Naturally
you're telling me they DONT drop everything and do as we ask immediately??
It's definitely not a day one feature but I'm willing to bet modders have it in before too long
They are already working on riding animations
Finally, a use for stuart little
I'm unsure we can count an image from tweet as evidence for "working on" (present tense) them
Until I see it in a blog it does not exist (animal poop is not real)
I think it's entirely possible that's something they were experimenting with & not meant as a teaser for b42, to be clearer with what I mean above. May not be something actively being worked on, but something planned
Fred analyzing every TIS tweet in the past year to determine the frequency of the letters H, O, R, S, and E
I actually did that with Lemmy's reddit account... Only one mention of horses
That one mention: "We will not be adding horses in b42."
And it was years ago
This makes my totally-real guess even more feasible
No, but it was a "wow it would be cool to see servers full of people riding horses decades into the apocalypse" or something like that
Nothing confirmed
Someday 🙏🏾
Long blunt enjoyer
^players during 4/20 in-game
baseball bats and crowbars are superior for early game and late game.
bare hands >> every other weapon
stomping is always the best option for saving weapon durability but bashing a zombie fallen to the ground is always good for fence hoard killing.
crowbars are good and spiked baseball bats are even better. Axes are pretty top tier too then later on machetes
thing I don't like about bladed weapons is damaging nice clothing
that's true. If I see the TIS logo or Spiffo or RJ's face on a shirt, I resort to stomping zombies with my military boot instead
I'm unwilling to damage those Kentucky treasures
finding some t shirts with graphics on them are a keeper and some clothing that has my favorite color
I use blunt weapons for certain clothing items
wonder what new leather jackets or varieties we'll see in the next build. Wild Racoons > Iron Rodent and Barrel Dogs

tomorrow is thursdoid
any predictions? I’m gonna guess Project Map update, visual improvements for hordes knocking down fences, and something about smoking or brewing
Horses fuckin' suck. I want to build my own fucking car and have to run in order to make it work like a survival-horror Flintstones
Genuinely excited when 42 comes out and I can do my neolithic playthrough.
Technology is what brought the zombie scourge to my woods, and anything with so much as a hint of polyester is going to suffer from a horrific case of "ugga dugga" by my own hand.
Hell yeh
I want to see more of the crafting tree that's not related to smithing
Hey, would the game benefit from a randomized TV schedule every time you started a game, and you'd have to either figure it out yourself or find a TV guide to find out what useful shows will be shown at what times?
HELL, that's a good idea.
Just remove life and living as a whole
I just start no electricity and water
Yeah. Life and Living just makes it too easy. Just spread the shows across different channels.
It's just too good to miss. I'd like to spend the first days watching the news and radio, but who can't say no to free xp? It's silly how invested my character is on his cooking TV show lol
You think Pat Bren is also writing more TV shows for the game? Like a "How It's Made" documentary style show to increase small amounts of skills in stuff like welding?
Science fiction shows that might grant some crafting recipes?
What other kinds of shows could they add that aren't documentary style?
Imagine being pat and writing so many Tv shows and radio and then seeing the entire player base ignoring them to watch life and living lol
Took me this long to realize you were talking about the channel "life and living". I was thinking "the game is chockablock full of zombies, how much living do you want us to get rid of?"
It's player's own fault if they miss out on some classic banter!!
if it makes u feel better sometimes i go in debug and listen to all the radio channels and tv channels pat
can u confirm or deny us getting animated tv channels now that we have that software that lets yall put videos ingame
He won't
Someone will, I can almost guarantee it. And it's not going to be the devs
??????????
probably saying that modders (“someone”) will create animated TV channels
can we get roadsign armor like in Rust
I heavily agree with this
I think multiple channels should offer skill shows, as well as things like the news channel revealing locations on your map. For example, an ad for a dealership can put it on your map
Or just don't use it 🤷♂️
No, it’s not that I think it’s too powerful. Just that it’s not nuanced
hey guys i was speaking with a guy about mods ,specifically, about the switch for power and he told me there is only for the entire map, but he told also, with the 42 there will be zoning so u can switch on/off in different areas of the map, is that true? i don't remember any blog mentioning it, can u help me?
uh
I am sure with enough knowledge you could probably use the ZonesAPI mod to make zoned areas with electricity. I don't recall them ever talking about zoned electricity in the dev blogs though.
I got curious and they were probably referring to this blog: https://projectzomboid.com/blog/news/2018/08/powerdoid/ and with the possibility of wires mentioned in https://projectzomboid.com/blog/news/2023/08/the-connection-is-made/
There might be a rework on the way electricity and water work, but I don't remember anything about that
but besides this, idt power in different parts of the map was explicitly mentioned in more recent blog posts
interesting how those two blog posts are almost exactly five years apart
ok thank u lads
ngl I always choose to watch the various news channels instead of life and living lol
Just gotta have a TV for every station so you can consume it all
watching life and living on multiple tv's at the same time to increase XP be like
tomorrow we get that juicy thursdoid

maybe we could start seeing gun play , combat , crafting , new animals, and more in the next thursdoid
and the ingredients of Spiffo’s Secret Sauce
more food items for PZ and recipes
making juice out of wild berries
I hope we can make some soy milk if soy beans are added.
Almond milk if almonds are added to PZ
They already showcased an overly complicated orange juice machine, but the community had a negative reaction to it
is this “The Connection is Made” blog post? I thought it was just showcasing what they could possibly do in terms of machinery whether modded or not, and not that orange juice would necessarily have to or will be made that way
that is, if we’ll be able to make juice. Not sure if it mentioned somewhere or I misunderstood
It was just to show the potential of the machine system or whatever it's called, but some people thought it was actually going to be a thing in the game and got mad for some reason. I was just joking
may 18th 2025? man, how time flies
lol
Taking so much time to launch this next build that my hype came and went like 4 times lol, i'm not even hyped anymore, sounds like fairy tale by this point and they said after b41 they wouldn't take that much time anymore. Bet tomorrow we will have another month to wait and speculate about what they've showed us, such cool community engagement, super fun indeed
I'm builder level now omg, finally not plunger anymore yay
I hope Puppers stuffs you in a jar with Spiffo like they said
Actually, they said that no build will take as much time as B42 or something
It seems like some people started the counter on the first b41 unstable release
When they said no build will take as long as b41 I'd assume it means the whole process from development to stable. Despite the concurrent development the roadmap shows, the most charitable way to interpret that imo is the interval between “final stable release of previous build” and “final stable release of build”
(Which would be 4 years, for b40 → b41)
Some people also count b42 time from b41 release and forget it received updates for a year
True, probably a part of the confusion there too
I mean... We only paid once for Zomboid. It's not like we are giving monthly payments to TIS to justify being so angry that B42 isn't out yet lol
It's my God-given American right to be angry at anything I want
I'm angry at you, even, right now. Fuming. Can you tell
I think with a lot of EA games being dissatisfied by pacing is understandable because they tend to have grand promises, but idt that really applies to PZ. Certainly not advertised as more than it is currently
I still want my horse
I should probably clarify that both that message & the one I sent earlier are in agreement with the things you said since I just realized they may read as if I'm disagreeing
at least build 42 will be out this year
Also sorry horses are not lore accurate because Kentucky banned horses in 1991
The sarcasm was obvious
Oh I didn't mean the angry bit, just that both of my messages following yours might've looked like argumentative responses to yours (despite expressing similar sentiments). But maybe that was not a correct assumption
We are 100% seeing horses tomorrow guys. Trust me
Omar is typing out his utter rage
and if we don’t?
We riot
raa
I'll break the rules and send a meme in general chat
What if there's a horse mention but only via subliminal messaging
Just for you, I'll go full conspiracy theorist tomorrow to find any resemblance of a horse in the thursdoid
We are 100% seeing tomorrow guys. Trust me
if not, we’ll blindly riot
I'll hold you to it
children are banned from kentucky in the PZ lore
Immediately before the outbreak there was a rapture but just for children
No one thought it was noteworthy enough to mention it
No matter what happens now i can die happy knowing i leveled up to builder, now i can be at peace knowing i'm not plunger anymore
Not sure how i feel about that, but we will see, hope we see more than just words tomorrow, maybe some release date for unstable finally
with it doesn't happens... well.. what can i do? Still be pissed about it but can't do anything lol
I'm from the future, tomorrows thursdoid won't be coming because It was shot dead in west point
Lol
But is it contained? I mean it can't go that far
also because indie stone headquarters destroyed by nuclear missile
violence spreads faster than zomboid virus
You keep going into the blog anticipation waiting for a release date. That's not what we do.
Will you ever give us a release date or will it randomly drop without warning? I find the second option better
I don't think we ever gave a release date in any blog
We might be saying it's close or whatever but it'll just drop whenever it's ready
We have no reason to hold back something that we think is ready for public consumption
No clue. I'm from the B41 wave of players so I've never seen the release of a new beta build 🤷
lemme tell ya, it was the hypset shit
if i remember right, both IWBUMS and stable release lacked a traditional release date
but it's been long enough that i might be way off
it certainly felt sudden
before build 41 came out some content creators got access to it.
Just checking
Yeah that's one of the main things I remembered about the 41 beta build release. I wake up, it's suddenly in public beta and I got pissed off since I had to go to work
imagine being on vacation and build 42 is released and having to wait until you come home
"Nice. Now some other people can find the bugs and when I finally get to play it, it will be even better :D"
in my experience the unstable release was actually pretty stable
llol
Oof, that's rough.
I'm fairly certain it's going to release when I'm getting shipped off to the military, feelsbadman
fr, outside of mods I've never had an issue with pz crashing or corrupting
"it'll just drop whenever it's ready"
IJDWIR
order of the alphabet:
I = 9
J = 10
D = 4
W = 23
I = 9
R = 18
9+10+4+23+9+18 = 73
7 * 3 = 21
9+9+10+18 = 46
46 - 21 = 25
yeah def not releasing on the 25th guys 🤦♂️

maybe you'll be on the front lines helping contain the Knox Infection
It's the day!!!
The blog is bimonthly now, the last one mentioned it.
I want a bicentennial thursoid.
If these blogs are happening too fast, I get scared and retreat into my protective shell.
IT'S JUST LIKE ME FR
You're a legend

Source?
I don't remember where but yes this was said by a dev here I believe
Or in the last thursdoid forum I don't remember exactly
Horses are not released with b42 and if they come, they'll probably be mid-late b42
I am a prophet
I think i remember it in a thursdoid too. Just that it wont be in the upcoming release.
Why would you do that? Why would you go on the internet and tell lies? (Last thursdoid says nothing about that)
Are you calling Mr Finn a liar?
It's mentioned right above the italicized block of text near the bottom, beneath the paragraph that mentions they're removing Zombies from B42 and replacing them with Vampires.
Yeah, what he said
You guys are brutal
Zomboi
they should add cars and zombies and guns
Let's bet on the hour that the Thursdoid drops. I'm betting 1-2 PM EDT.
I bet it doesn't come out
Doesn't quite fit with the developer's intended vision, but it's really easy to mod things into the game
I bet you 50 internet points it does.
I bet you one bored ape
cant wait for this months blog post
today, right?
Frankly I can't imagine anything topping that grass reveal. It's gotta be crazy.
2 years worth of blog posts lmao and a lot of informal dev chit chat
I went the craziest with the optimization reaveal
So, horses are in the plans but for the future?
I thought they were never going to add them ngl.
Wonder how they will tackle the long distance travel with such a huge map in the many years later scenario
They hired an ex-Mojang dev to tackle procedurally generating wilderness and roads
From what I recall, no current plans for procedurally generated towns
I believe many years later is its own map all together but who knows
Broom flights
I mean, without (functioning) vehicles, how will they make travelling between for example; LV and Muldraugh.
at this point it doesn't need to be generated, the map is just inherently massive
walking between those two points takes like.. 30 min IIRC
hah, fun!
They want to expand so people can have bases in the middle of forests to help give options for "The Alexandria Years" later in-game
Also so that players no longer will encunter the black void 😛
But I was hoping they also added the physical barrier to contain the Knox Event, giving the map an actually good border.
as I think that in the lore, they actually put some kind of barrier?
I wouldn't doubt that Braven's bicycle redux mod is similar to something we'll see in vanilla at some point.
Also, just because we might not have rideable animals, there might still be some form of animal-pulled wagons?
Notwithstanding any additions for repairing old cars, new mechanic interactions to build small buggies, mad-max style, etc
I'm aware, just not where the convo was at
One of the recent thursdoids
the whole area is fenced in, but iirc we'll only see the fence on the north part of the map between lv and everything else
if lawn mowers were a thing to cut grass and help make the land look much better.
They should add some sort of undead creature
Idk like a zombie or something, I think it'd be cool
They should reconsider I think, mods are good but zombies should be in the base game
astaghfirullah
having zombies with armor take more damage before killing them
Uh... He forgives you
zombies with bullet proof vests take less chest bullet damage, that counts right?
That'd be neat
zombies wearing hardhats, helmets could take less damage to blunt weapons
