personally speaking I just wish Brita's spawning system wasn't so absolutely illegible. In theory it could be really useful but at the same time it just doesn't seem to properly work?
the mod itself is pretty baller but actually getting around to using it in a server setting is CBT since the gun spawn controls are practically useless

With all the new recipes, I don’t think the skill book system will work for everything. I had the idea of putting a lot of skill unlocks behind the new media they’re adding like books and vhs. Like you watch a Mad Max type movie and there is an RNG chance of learning post-apocalyptic armor or something

I know... I never use armour in the game and I think the whole combination of firefighter gear with bulletproof vests is silly, but I still appreciate having the options. If my character is a master blacksmith, what's stopping me from making medieval armour? 
I wouldn't mind it too much, my main hope rn is that heavy/protective clothing can have more advantages than they do currently while haivng plenty of disadvantages. So there'd be more incentive to wearing them

Cause right now it's better to just not wear much of the protective clothing when you properly know combat and can avoid damage.

I've got 3 criticisms of the new moodles, 1. colours, especially on the new zombified one are off, dunno why just are. 2. Judging off the zombie one, they're not going to do headshapes hat exit the perfect circle of the original emoji. In the old zombie one the open jaw extends past the jaw and that helps give it character. 3. Too much detail, like the juices and shading, I'm not saying they're bad just it pushes it just a little too far away from simple, as the moodles should be since they're tiny anyway. No hate to the artist and I trust that when we get the full set and see them implemented it'll work out just fine
Anyway, forgetting about the moodles, the basement update looks sick as hell

But the gun rework sounds amazing. Actually being able to shoot at low level and hit shots without needing Exactly One Specific Shotgun and an entire fuckin horde so that your bullets can't miss so you can level up your gun skill enough to use other guns, that sounds cool

Unfortunately not having native support for attachments will probably cause a few to still make their own hodgepodge nonsense but having unified scripts for fire control and such now will probably make things atleast cleaner
Not even. People will disagree with vanilla at every turn and base their gun mods on total overwrites just as much, it's just a question of if you install a mod at all

i think they objectively look good, but don't fit in with zomboid, as the other ui elements in the game are pixelated (traits, occupations, item icons, etc.)

If the system works the way we all think it does even the most skilled players will log hundreds of hours in a save and die before they complete everything
eh, the only thing devs can do to make game interesting in late game is actually nerf stuff that you can find in a house
like nearly no food that can't spoil and more food that spoils
that way players will be able to survive in the first days but have to actually be worried about food
also make a system that can fuck up stuff you're making, like zombies finding your base, crops getting more deseases

also that leads me into idea of different deseases you can get, from flu to something serious
and you have to find special medicaments for those deseases
for crops iirc one of the Thursdoids mentioned us having to deal with slugs and snails. And considering they’ll likely be adding raccoons to the game, I’m sure Spiffo will come around and mess with some of our crops too. Also, deer and rabbits will be sure to come after our crops. I believe another Thursdoid showcased rat poison so rats will likely be contaminating our food supply

Probably again they just look weird because we've been used to these pixelated ones for so long
And they obviously won't look as odd when they're just small icons in the corner instead of the big images we're seeing
sadly they didn't show us what they would look in game, can't say pixelated would be better because haven't seen smooth ones in game

With all the proc gen they were talking about for forests I feel like itd make sense to make fruit trees randomly spawn in the world already
Well we don't need to grow fruit trees from scratch, since the devs mentioned that a huge deal about b42 is years of long term, some seasonal fruits would be cool
And I think they'd help with visuals, fruit trees that are blooming look very pretty
And it's sounds perfect for the farming overhaul, even if we can take saplings and grow them
I suppose somewhat related, but did they mention if they were gonna revamp erosion? Kinda silly how fast saplings start popping up compared to the rest of the erosion which is reasonable
I don't think any of the farming is realistic, same with trees which regrow when cut down so that shouldn't be a problem

After 1000’s of hours, I’d appreciate any graphical / design changes they add. Sure, the complaints are the opinions of others but these days people attribute a bit too much weight to their own opinions. One person just said that the soul of PZ is a bunch of icons that only appear sometimes and a mascot that’s just a stuffed animal. It’s an opinion, sure, but how can that be taken seriously?

hopefully some naturally spawned bows will appear so we dont have to craft them right away.

I'm 100% sure there's also going to be modern bows and crossbows in hunting places
with bows and crossbows the arrows and bolts could be reused after killing a zombie or animal.
elder scrolls allows us to reuse the arrows off of enemies we kill.
The MP team is working on stunlock and desync. We know you can track animals. Imagine if people also leave tracks for a while and being able to track and hunt them down. Sorry… I play RP servers so my imagination just goes.

I need some help wrapping my head around the aiming part of the rebalance, will I be able to hit a zombie less painfully at aiming level 0? I know the penalties from shooting go down as you level up aiming/reloading of course, but will I finally be able to get a clean hit on a zombie as a low level?
the way I understood it was that the chances to get a clean hit on a zombie as a low level does seem to have increased to some extent, but it'll depend on more factors than before like lighting and certain traits and strength. Also have to take into consideration our characters panicking, moving while aiming, etc..
I think this was the important factor in the reaction received 😅 I'm fairly certain they will look wonderful once they're implemented in the game.
The community reaction was a bit immature in my opinion. I hope none of it was taken to heart by the devs. 🤍
What y'all don't take into account is that some additions to the game don't exist in a vacuum.
The devs have clearly hinted that this is a necessary upgrade for other things to follow that they don't want to reveal just yet.

Yeah they'd probably find a good middle ground for the effect to be punishing but not too much to the point of it not being fun.
Cause an issue currently is that short sighted doesn't really do much now, while the expensive good eye sight trait isn't as useful as it should be.
It also sounds like sunglasses, motorcycle helmets and welder masks will also affect our vision through an overlay.

Hey, don't know with it was mentioned elsewhere but how will generators power underground and structures like skycrapers? Really want to know the floor limit to powering or with we can connect it with the electrical structure of the building, providing we have some levels on it
also indoors poisoning is a thing, how will it interact with bunkers?
I haven't seen that discussed anywhere. I think the assumption is that it'll work identically to smaller buildings, just with more power draining lights and equipment attached. What I hope happens is that generators get a max power output and different tiers for higher output, ie you have to pick and choose what electronics have power in those skyscrapers. Maybe even a circuit breaker in the basement to cut power to anything irrelevant from one convenient place.

If the crafting is expanding as much as they're alluding to, I think it will have outgrown books and magazines as a way to learn things. Maybe give players the ability to "study" items like rocks and twigs, like reading a book but you're staring at a rock instead, and have there be a low% chance that a character will have a eureka moment and learn the recipe?
Having a magazine for literally every recipe will feel so bloated and contrived
I also like the idea of putting knowledge unlocks behind media like books and movies. Like a low% chance to learn cars stuff by watching a movie that features a lot of cars. And if your character doesn't learn car stuff watching it once, wait for the media cooldown to end, and you watch that movie again and hope that the character learns car stuff this time. Same goes for farming and every other future skill

The blogs are always a joy to read and I don't intend to insult the skill of the blog writer—but most of them tend to have mistakes that range from totally minor to “this has briefly hindered my understanding of the sentence” (to be clear, mistakes are normal & expected—that's why I think a proofreading pass would be ideal)

The problem with this line of thought is, zomboid isn't a pure sandbox like minecraft where a buggy build can be pushed that just shows "Yeah here's where we're at on the current update" and you can load in and crash every 12 seconds but see "damn these features look cool, they're fun to play with"
It is a sandbox, but the rules of the sandbox incentivize a much greater focus on how the shovels you're given interact with the game world. It's more of an immersive sim, and like all immersive sims, they only come together at the latest stages of development in any way that makes sense.
Not only that but what's being worked on is an update to said immersive system, which means not only does it take effort for the new mechanics to properly fit in, but it also means addressing how the effects of the new mechanics ripple out into older systems, and updating them to account for it, while keeping in mind that a change as simple as updating the moodle graphics started a full week's discussion in spite of being only a fraction of what the article even contained
Well if anyone is frustrated with the wait, change the game up with mods or do something else

The animal system that is currently being implemented is a temporary solution until the NPC system is expanded to the point it can support animals. They said we won't get horses, dogs, or predators until this happens

They don’t want people to steal their thunder with whatever they could’ve added originally for the behavior tree and metaworld system. Depending on what they put in, you can have people quickly make human npcs with just behavior trees and they want to save that for b43
It has not changed because RJ is the person working on the animal system which is separate to build 42 compeletely. Based on what has been said we probably aren't getting animals until at least build 44, so the animals system likely wouldn't be removed "the build after" as well
This is not the reason why. It's because the NPC's they are implementing are using 10 years worth of existing code that has already been developed for human NPCs in the background of the game's development this entire time. They don't have that for animal NPC's and trying to add animal NPC's instead of making what they already have work would take longer

I mean I’m agreeing with you. There’s another post I can link that has lemmy talking about using the tech he’s built also for animals. I’m just saying that you can easily use whatever they could’ve originally planned to release to make human npcs, which is not the case since they are going to implement something else that they will remove
the new icons are just meant for high resolutions I think so they'll still appear pixelated when it's displayed at 4k and such

More specifically, it won't use the NPC code that NPC's are going to use in the future. It's using a placeholder system to handle them which will be scrapped after human NPCs are out and the NPC system is expanded to allow for animals

What do you mean max? That Q1 quote is a rough estimate, not a guarantee. They don't do crunch, so you can't expect that to be set in stone.

Upon a cursory look, that particular image has not been changed since Zleigh Ride at least. And honestly, it doesn't need to be. The devs have more important work to be done than to edit that PSD file every time folks ask. There'd be no time to do anything else if that were the case lol.

You're not the first to confuse first half with q1, that is why I posted. Yeah it is an estimate more than a goal, if things keep moving forward at the average speed they have been.
