What’s the point of typing “Gabriel shouts ‘oorah’” when you can just type it

You’re playing as the character

So, when typing: you don't actually typ: Gabriel shouts.

It automatically adds "Playername shouts/says/whispers .. and then the text"

How does all this roleplaying work? Are the people in the pics typing the rp things by themselves?

Yes, we use a chat box. Basically when you interact with others, you type it out:

/me brings the cup of coffee to their mouth and drinks it
/me pulls out his revolver and aims it at the bandit "Don't you step closer!"

And of course, we also just play the game normally. We just try to create stories.

Its a mix between short messages and long ones.

Why dont they just normally type the things they say and do /me when doing things?

So..

/say is the default., then the text will be in white, as shown in the screenshot.
To see the difference between an action and saying something, the color changes. /me is for actions. Then we also have /say /do /yell /whisper

VOIP can also be great for storytelling as long as everyone isn't twelve and playing characters they can reasonably play. Mixed text and VOIP is a nice balance
