For some reason, I'm running the StartServer.64 batch thing but it doesnt finish. I click a key and it just closes the window. I've been trying to make my zomboid server work for about 5 hours now.

Try deleting the Steamapps folder in the server install location

different problem that is

#

i have forwarded ports

shut dagger
# placid isle

It shows that for some reason, both ports are set to 16261

#

Did you change the port config?

#

I would recommend using the default server settings.

placid isle
#

i saw somewhere that internal and external ports should be the same

#

unless im wrong

#

does the internal port need to be 16261 and external 16262?

#

or flipped?

#

sorry im not good with this stuff

shut dagger
#

That would be the case in your Router

#

Not in the server settings

#

UDP port should be 16262 as it is by default

#

Which seems to be correct in your screenshot, but the logs show that both are 16261?

placid isle
#

heres indepth look into every rule

shut dagger
#

Its server settings related

placid isle
#

oh ive been looking at the wrong thing the whole time then

placid isle
shut dagger
#

Put it in the IP tab

placid isle
#

by the way i am able to join my server itself

#

i made sure its public which it is

#

do i have to move any files around?

placid isle
#

i might just screenshot every single server setting and u can see if theres any problems by chance???

placid isle
shut dagger
#

But if others fail to connect to it, it means that something is blocking their connections

#

Either your firewall, your router, or your internet service provider

#

Checking your port screenshots, the mistake seems to be that the External Host should be empty

#

And that both external annd internal port should be the same and without ranges

#

So 16261 in one and 16261 in the other

#

Then a second rule with 16262

placid isle
shut dagger
#

I would recommend against them

placid isle
#

?

#

sounds tedious lol

shut dagger
#

What? No, you just need 16261 and 16262

#

That is two rules

#

It says as such on the wiki and on the guide we have linked in the FAQ

placid isle
shut dagger
#

That would apply around 2015

#

So that knowledge would be fairly outdated at this point

placid isle
#

oh, i didnt know that could be one of the issues then

placid isle
#

do i still forward those on a different rule?

shut dagger
#

Those should not be necessary

placid isle
#

oh i thought they opened up steam?

shut dagger
#

Not since the new multiplayer, everything goes through 16261 and 16262 now

#

Which is why they are the only two listed on the Wiki

placid isle
#

okay when i get home i’ll do tha

placid isle
#

@shut dagger theres to tcp prots right

#

no*

shut dagger
placid isle
#

also for some reason this certain website REQUIRES an internal host

#

like it wont add it without one

#

im not sure what i would put there

shut dagger
#

Yes, an internal host is always required

#

Because that is the PC you are forwarding the ports to

#

But an external host should be empty

#

External = people who connect

#

Empty means that anyone can connect through that port

#

If you write any IP there, it would only let that one specific IP through, which you do not want for a server

#

Internal should be your local PC IP

placid isle
#

alright i got that figured out

#

is it normal for zomboid to do this?

#

make their own rules

shut dagger
#

Not really, I am not sure where you got that from

#

Did you change the ports in the "servertest" file / settings?

placid isle
#

no, i have someone else who has worked 20 years in mit and hosts zomboid servers tell me the 16261 rule needs to be tcp

#

could i just use the option of tcp/udp?

shut dagger
#

The game does not use TCP

#

Most games use the UDP protocol, Zomboid being one of them

#

So I am not sure where he got that info

#

You can use tcp/udp, it would not matter as long as UDP is enabled

placid isle
#

alright so i set the 2 rules to udp/tcp, and i also turned off upnp. still no response

#

do i need to do anything with this

placid isle
#

alright sucess, its now findable, but now people when they try to join they get stuck on the, "getting server info" prompt

shut dagger
#

SteamCMD or Steam client?

placid isle
#

like the application on steam called "project zomboid dedicated server? " is thgat what u mean
