For anyone who is familiar with hosting a Zomboid Server via Shockbyte, we are encountering issues were the server goes down (i.e. map does not load, etc.). Compared to other servers we see, we have half the amount of mods, we've also reduced Zombie population thinking that might help. We have the Chainsaw (upgraded) server, and working with ShockByte IT. I just wanted to see if anyone else encounter the same issues. Thank you for the help and insight! Hopefully you enjoy a long weekend full of Zomboids.
#Shockbyte Server Hosting - Server Going Down

It is very likely a mod load issue
What is your mods list
Also, do you know where the ProjectZomboid64.json file for your server is?
Hmmmm, as far as mod list (and apologies, if I should upload it a different way) : Mods=2116762736;87cruiser;89def110;autotsartrailers;ATT_Hauler;BecomeDesensitized;BCGTools;CleanDirt;Crematorium;eggonsFannyPackBalancing;eggonsHolstersTweaker;eggonsModdingUtils;FancyHandwork;fhqMotoriusZone;fhqMotoriusZoneImports;fhqMotoriusZoneExotics;fhqMotoriusZoneRealNames;fhqMotoriusZoneUSDM;FussLogHaul;FH;cf_hearing_aid;ItemTweakerAPIExtraClothingAddon;ItemTweakerAPI;YakiHSBasegameTexture;YakiHS;rSemiTruck;Visible Generators and Corpses;VehicleRepairOverhaul;tsarslib;STAIMING;AwesomeTime;SlowConsumption;SkillRecoveryJournal;RV_Interior_MP;RV_Interior_Vanilla;RotatorsLib;RepairAnyClothes;RepairAnyMod;noirrsling;fhqMotoriusZoneRVInt;ToadTraits;ToadTraitsDisablePrepared;ToadTraitsDisableSpec;ToadTraitsDynamic;PaintYourRide;errorMagnifier;modoptions;MoodleFramework;KillCount;Brita;Brita_2;Arsenal(26)GunFighter[MAIN MOD 2.0];Arsenal(26)GunFighter;BLTRandomZombies;OutTheWindow;
Thank you again, I am going to check rn, but in case you respond first: where would that be?
One moment, I have helped others find it
I dont know exactly the shockbyte file layout but it should be similar to client stack
Close PZ
Go to your steam library
Click on PZ
Click in the gear icon right side of screen
Select browse local files
Scroll down until you find the .json file named "ProjectZomboid64"
@oblique atlas
So even though I am not hosting the game on my computer (idk how it works but assuming server is hosted by Shockbyte) that file is in the normal SteamLibrary>steamapps>common>Project Zomboid
Also my friend, officially created the ShockByte account if that makes a difference. Not sure if his would look like mine (if that matters) Thanks again for helping : ' )
Show me the "Vmargs" portion of that 64.json file
Shockbyte probably did to you what they do to everyone
Java Virtual Machine Arguments (VMArgs)?
Yes you should see an Xmx line in there
But just post that section
"vmArgs": [
"-Djava.awt.headless=true",
"-Xmx3072m",
"-Dzomboid.steam=1",
"-Dzomboid.znetlog=1",
"-Djava.library.path=win64/;.",
"-XX:-CreateCoredumpOnCrash",
"-XX:-OmitStackTraceInFastThrow"
thanks for teaching me to be a coder 😏
How much ram are you paying shockbyte for?
my friend is paying for the most upgraded(?) server, I think they call it "Chainsaw," I think its like $20
Find out how much ram that is and lemme know
its 6 gb
we had 4 and upgraded
cause server was dying frequently, but this didn't seem to fix it unforuantely
Yea, it is 6gb
You're able to edit that file directly?
The one I had you find*
Yes, there are a few portions to edit on Shockbyte - We've been in most to troubleshoot
oh
the one on my comp? I'm assuming I can edit it
I opened it in notepad
No you need to find it in shockbyte
Thats what I thought you sent me
Show me the shockbyte version
Ohkay my dear, I found this:
"vmArgs": [
"-Djava.awt.headless=true",
"-Xmx6144M",
"-Xms6144M",
"-Dzomboid.znetlog=1",
"-Djava.library.path=linux64/:natives/",
"-Djava.security.egd=file:/dev/urandom",
"-XX:+UseZGC",
"-XX:-OmitStackTraceInFastThrow",
"-Duser.home=/home/minecraft/multicraft/servers/server790880",
"-Dzomboid.steam=1"
Can you edit that file?
yes I think
Delete the Xms line entirely
I see two lines, delete both? they look the same
Leave Xmx6144m
Delete Xms6144m
There, that likely will fix your issue
We will def give it a try, thank you so much ❤️ we owe you -- If it doesnt work I may reply back but youve helped enough :' )
Feel free to
If this doesnt work you likely have a mod issue
@oblique atlas any news?
We are currently playing, trying to replicate this issue.. but.. It seems to be working :' ))
I can explain the nuance of why deleting that line works, but its a tedious explanation
if you have time, I'd love to know. I know you also said "Shockbyte probably did to you what they do to everyone" so I'd like to know that nuance too ❤️
Toss me a dm
damn can u send me that DM too? i'm super curious now lol
pokes @turbid pier
What ya need to know
The nuance of deleting that line, and what shockbyte does to people
