So i recently reinstalled zomboid and decided to install few mods, like 50-70 and i now i keep getting constant fps drops out of nowhere.. Last time when i played like 7 months ago i had ove 3x my current mods (200+) and i almost never got any stuttering or fps drops. I also dont get any fps drops while playing Skyrim SE with multiple graphics mods (total mod count 100~) while my CPU and GPU are both 90-100% all the time, but i get constant fps drops on zomboid when my CPU never even peaks 85% and ram is at 49% all the time. https://streamable.com/z4aaoq massive fps drop out of nowhere.

If you have issues with mods, try disabling them one by one or in batches to figure out which specific mod is causing the problems.
Do it on a new save to to prevent any issues on your current playthrough as removing mods can cause items to be permanently deleted.
After you find out which mod is problematic, consider reporting the problem to the mod creator on their workshop page.
Update: I have tried vanilla, with my current mod amount, less mods and more mods. And every single time its the same thing, 60fps all the time except with random fps drops where my fps drops to 30 for a few seconds, verified files ( all fine ) gave zomboid more ram, 0 changes.
Still on games like Skyrim with hundreds of mods or Rust with allmost all graphic settings at max i get 0 fps drops while staying at 80 all the time
And on those games my CPU, GPU and RAM are 90%+ all the time while on zomboid everything stays below 90%
Can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid?
The last 5 logs all show a ton of mods loaded
So, I would again ask to try a vanilla game
Additionally, your graphics drivers look out of date
And lastly, is this a PC or a laptop?
Yeah my last log in i tried a different set of mods, ill boot up vanilla again. Also its a PC
I recommend just going to the Zomboid folder and deleting the "mods" folder there
And then start a new game
Heres the new one, deleted mods folder and made a brand new save. fps kept dropping from 60 to 40, even 30 a few time while just walking around Muldraugh and killing few zeds.
I would recommend updating the driver and disabling any background programs
Since the game itself looks fine
Meaning the issue is either coming from a software issue due to other applications taking the PC resources / messing with the game
Or a hardware issue
Weird.. As i have multiple browser tabs, discord, spotify etc running in the backround while playing other games and have 0 issues
Ive tried closing every other program that is not needed while playing zomboid and there was no difference, with or without mods
Yes, even went trough task manager
Try going to your Nvidia control panel and set the power options to Maximum Performance in that case
No effect
My fps drops actually seem to be bigger now, instead of the usual 30~ fps that it drops to its now 8- 15
Any sort of overclocks done to your PC in that case? And did you try reinstalling the game to a different disk?
CPU has been overclocked to safe values for years, and has had no negative effects on zomboid or any other game before.
First time i installed zomboid again was on my main disk "by accident" and at first i thought the lag was because of that. But i reinstalled it to my SSD after like an hour, where it is now
By "Main Disk" do you mean your C drive? Is the C drive not an SSD?
Correct, C drive is a HDD
I would generally not recommend having the Windows drive as an HDD if it can be avoided, that is more of a general tip
Though this might also affect the game because it saves everything on the C drive
Try going to your Steam Library > Right click Project Zomboid > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type -cachedir=D:\Zomboid > Start the game
Putting that launch option seems to have gotten rid off of all my presets. Even my mod presets on Mod Manager, which has saved me alot of time so i dont have to go trough hundreds of mods and enable the 50 i use. Any way to transfer them / bring them back? Also, it seems that the lag was almost non existent on pure vanilla, got a few fps drops from 60 to 50 at the start of the world. After playing for 5 minutes my fps counter showed drops every now and then to like 55 56, so i have hope that it fixed it.
They're probably still in the Zomboid folder in your user folder.
Just copy them over, make sure to keep a backup.
(The old user Zomboid folder probably works for that.)
So the lag would be caused by mods in that case
The old location is in the User/Zomboid folder, you can copy stuff from there to the new D:/Zomboid folder
The folder should now be on an SSD, I am assuming that D is one
Which would be preffered since it would help the game have it on an SSD
So, i moved everything from the zomboid folder in C drive to my D drive, and loaded my usual mod preset and started a new save. I have played for almost 2 hours now and so far i have not noticed any of those massive drops where my fps drops by 50%. Only few 10~ fps drops that have happened in the middle of Louisville while testing.
I also deleted the C drive zomboid folder just in case, no idea if it has any effect tho..
